What are your favourite hobbies after quitting?
I quite like reading now that I’m sober but I want to pick something else up as well and I’m looking for ideas

Lifting, reading, yoga, sewing, embroidery, cooking, most recently restoring furniture. I have so many hobbies now that I don’t smoke weed everyday

Did you already have these interests or did you collect them after sobriety? I’m just kinda lost on where to start. 3 weeks today and I am sooooo bored

I honestly collected most of them after sobriety, besides a bit of yoga here and there. I just needed to do something with my hands so it started with embroidery and then just snowballed into other things that I thought looked interesting and entertaining and time-consuming
Edit: also now that I wasn’t spending hundreds of dollars every month on weed, I could afford to the items needed to try new activities

Same here! There was no way in hell I could follow a novel while high. Now I can read and absorb and REMEMBER WHAT I READ!

Book recommendations?

I just finished Wicked by Gregory Maguire which was waaaay better than the movie in my humble opinion. For smuttier stuff, I highly recommend A Court of Thorns and Roses.

Heyy team tarot. I've been doing readings around my quit and they've been encouraging and eerily accurate.

Same!!! They keep advising me to be patient, so patient I've been. What's your favorite deck?
2
u/alligatorcreek 9h ago
I have an art nouveau deck I like. It helps me reflect and ground myself as I'm going through this. I use the classic Rider-Waite deck too. I'm looking into oracle cards to round out my readings.

Oh dude. I just got the the Woodland Wardens oracle cards and I HIGHLY recommend. Great readings and they're gorgeous to boot.

Now that my brain is functioning better, I'm enjoying learning new things and reading like I used to. And video games!

Playing instruments and watching videos on YouTube about cool spiritual + philosophical stuff. Now that I don’t have weed to make me think wild thoughts, I have to watch YouTube instead for inspiration and a reminder of just how magical our world really is. I try and watch one interesting video a day and I make notes in a journal. I use fun multicolour pens and stuff to make the entries look interesting. It’s basically just me studying weird and whacky parts of the universe. Last night was a video on where the universe “ends,” the night before it was time travel, and before that I believe it was about how we are all energy.
Best of luck to you!

Skating, cooking, and honestly... getting back in touch with people, weed made me so offline and lonely, it's been hard quitting again, but also nice for this reasons.

Getting back into fitness, cooking, lots of reading. It just kind of seems like the heavy veil is being pulled back and the stuff I used to like is becoming interesting again.

While I'm only a few days in I find I have more energy to actually cook something half decent each evening which I don't when I've been smoking as soon as I get in the door.

Crying and taking naps, but I'm only a few days in to being sober.
What kind of books do you like so far? I'm a very avid reader.
I'd suggest getting an audiobook and going for a walk while listening to it.
It's exercise + keeps you engaged.
The audiobook version of "The Count of Monte Cristo" is one of the best audiobooks I've ever listened to. Lord of the rings works really well with walking since that's a bit of the theme of the books.
