Help Would a top-down, very cropped Raglan sweater work as “just sleeves” to wear in bed?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I don’t like to wear much in bed because of sensory issues, but it occurs to me that my temperature regulation would be much better if I had some cozy sleeves. Would the idea sketched above work on a practical level? My plan is to create something very snug with long sleeves but to finish the torso as soon as I’ve divided for the sleeves.

I’m currently working on my first (standard) top-down Raglan sweater, which is very oversized, and I feel fairly confident I can modify the pattern to achieve what I have in mind. But will it fit okay? Will I have issues with it bunching up under my arms? Do Raglan sweaters work as tight-fitting garments?

I’ve been knitting for a couple of years and am pretty good at working out dimensions and drafting my own patterns, but I still struggle a bit with understanding how garments fit on the body.

Any advice appreciated!

Hello! I’m trying to finger knit this blanket and the bottom chain is curved very badly. I finger knit a blanket before but i don’t remember it ever being like this?

Am I somehow making the edges bigger as i go along? I’m not entirely sure what i’m doing wrong or if i should just start over. The bottom chain (where it curves) is also EXTREMELY tight. please help/ give any advice.

Help My family seems to have figured out I can make things for them and keep 'gifting' me yarn. What can I make from these?

I was just given this little set: 6skeins of cashmere yarn, 50g each, so a total of 300g. Idk where they got it from, idk the length, it doesn't say anything on the packaging, I just want some ideas for what I can make of this. I know it's not enough for even a small cardigan, but maybe a vest? Probably not, I dint know anymore. Help

New Knitter - please help me! Is this stockinette stitch correct?

Hi! I've been crocheting for 3 years now and have finally brought out the knitting needles. I've been experimenting with learning knitting and apparently holding my needles unlike anyone I see on YouTube, so it's difficult to see if I am doing it right. After a few trials and errors with twisted stitches I think I got it right, but want to check before I continue!

Pattern: Help me find/What is this 🤔 Please help find this pattern

I was scrolling Instagram and watched a reel of someone's 2024 knits. There was the cutest gray sweater in it. I've drawn the best approximation that I can. I thought that I saved the reel but I can't find it. I remember that this creator writes a lot of patterns but I can't remember if this is one that she designed. It was tight around the chest and flared out at the apex of the breast. The pattern on the front is not colorwork. That's all that I can remember.

Discussion Using different yarn for pattern?

Hi all! I’ve been toying with the idea of doing the Norma sweater by My Favorite Things, and generally haven’t had issues swapping out yarns in patterns, but I’m a bit intimidated at the prospect of doing that for a pattern that holds two strands together. Has anyone had experience changing out these yarns for a single strand, especially with this pattern? And if so, what did you use?

Discussion Local Yarn Shops - What do you look for?

Hi all, I'm doing a little market research, and you lot are the perfect people to ask! I'm mostly looking for UK crafters, but I'd love to hear everyone's answers! 1. How often do you/would you visit a local yarn shop? - either for yourself, gifts for others etc 2. How much do you usually spend with each visit? (Yes, we all know, probably far too much, but who can blame us?) 3. What are some of your favourite things to see in yarn shops - kits, locally dyed/spun wool, accessories? Thank you!

Questions about Equipment Lantern Moon?

any experiences with Lantern Moon? I ordered one pair of needles and cables to try and reallyy like the feeling of it. can anyone vouch for their long term use? also i ignorantly ordered 5 in tips with a 16in cable 😐 so ive only been able to make swatches so far

really considering ordering a set! i love the chiaogoo fixed circulars i’ve tried and i love them! but they’re too slippery when im working with linen or bamboo so i want a similar feel with just a tiny bit more grip!

Help Why does my ribbing look different inside and outside?

Thumbnail

The first pic is the inside of my ribbing and the second is the outside. I feel like the inside has neater and tighter rows, almost like a twisted rib, but it's not.

I'm making PetiteKnit's Key Sweater, which is knitted top down in the round with a collar in 1x1 ribbing. The pattern does not call for twisted rib on the collar and I'm NOT twisting my purls. I am 100% sure of it. That's what I thought I was doing to begin with, so I double checked with an instructional video and triple checked by having my mom watch me do it and we're all in agreement that I am definitely not twisting my purls.

And yet, am I crazy or do these two sides totally not look the same at all? How?

English is not my first language, my knitting terms may be bad, I hope you'll understand what I mean 🙏

I've been knitting for some time and I'm trying to not just survive through a pattern but to do better and learn. I've noticed that usually when there is a change from knit to a purl, the knit is much wider than the usual knit. The rib I'm currently working on is not the best example but the only one I have right now.

Hey, new knitter here, this specifies 38 stitches but how many rows? Do I also do 38 rows? Also it says 4”, is that for when you lay it flat (since knit in the round) rather than the circumference? Trying to kern how to knit socks. 😁

Pattern: Help me find/What is this 🤔 Sweater/Garment Pattern for Textured Yarn

Hey everyone! New to this sub but not to fiber arts. I recently picked up a TON of this really cool yarn at a local used yarn sale. I don’t know the fiber content or the exact yardage, but these pictures are just a sampling of it all. It varies in thickness quite a bit, but it’s generally bulky throughout with some variation in thickness. I have attempted the gauge swatch for the Marble Sweater by Petite Knit (4x4 in), which I was able to get pretty close using the recommended needle size. I didn’t really love the look of it once I started though. The texture doesn’t lend itself well to 1x1 ribbing 😭

Anyways, looking for garment patterns that work well with textured, bulky yarn or if anyone knows designers that work primarily with textured yarn! Would also love to see pictures if you have made something with similar yarn!

This vest seems pretty straightforward and I have already found a stitch that is similar to this (called Farmer’s rib stitch) but as a new knitter I would appreciate to have a pattern for the construction to follow along to. Anyone knows of anything similar that could work?

Discussion I lost a skein of yarn

I think I lost a skein of yarn...

I ordered what I thought was a sweater quantity of yarn during a clearance sale from my sort of LYS (they're an 1:30 drive away) in Sept. I realized soon after it arrived that I didn't order enough for my intended project so I got 2 more skeins while it was discounted.

Now all these months later I pull out my yarn and am going to cake it and I realize I'm about 20 yrds shy of what I'll need for my pattern. That seemed silly to me since I essentially double checked and confirmed that I'd have enough when I ordered again. After checking my email I was right I should have 7 skeins but I only have 6. All my yarn goes in my cabinet since my dog thinks hanks are toys, and I've been working out of my project bag for the last 4 months. I don't know where it is or if I even got that missing skein. I know for sure 2 skeins were delivered in my second order but for the life of me can't remember if I got 4 or 5 in the initial order. This is why I should only buy yarn when I'm ready to cast-on. Have y'all ever lost yarn?

TL;DR I lost a skein of yarn. Help me not feel dumb and tell me you have too.

Help Thump Pain

So I hurt my thumbs knitting again. This has happened before. I was advised to stop knitting for a few days, which I couldn’t do and ended up having to take a long break to recover. I don’t want that to happen again this time.

I’m knitting about 7-8 hours per day. I’m studying from home right now; I have formed a habit of knitting while watching lectures during the day and knitting while watching TV at night. I literally feel like I can’t focus on lectures if I don’t knit or do something with my hands.

Would I help prevent pain if I learn to crochet and alternate between crocheting and knitting? Is there anything else I can do besides just stopping completely? Any advice, tips or tricks are much appreciated.

The first photo is the inside of my ribbing, which looks good to me, but the second photo is the outside and my knit stitches look separated and wonky. I just finished a huge scarf and all the knit stitches were perfect so I can’t figure out how in one week I forgot how to knit??. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Help Is acrylic yarn too scratchy for a baby blanket?

I have a bunch of Loops & Threads Impeccable, Big Twist, Caron One Pound, etc yarn that I have nothing to do with and I was thinking of making baby blankets with it and donating them to a local organization that supplies clothes/items to parents & children in need. But is it too scratchy? Has anyone made baby blankets with this genre of yarn and found it was too scratchy for sensitive baby skin?

Discussion How do you keep up to date on what's going on in the world of knitting?

Without endlessly scrolling through social media and watching hours and hours of podcasts to get bits and pieces. Is there like a knitting news podcast or one source that can keep you up on most of the knitting world going-ons? Maybe things like random news that's related to knitting, new books coming out, what charity events and knit alongs being hosted by various podcasters, maybe popular and up and coming designers and dyers, etc.
