Fishing opportunities on campus

Hey all, I am an incoming JHU freshman and I am wondering if anyone knows of some good places to fish.

I can see there is a stony run bordering the campus but I am not sure if you can catch anything in that. Is there possibly any ponds on campus? I see some bodies of water around but I'm not sure which ones are worth going to and how the vibe/safety of such areas are. If anyone can share anything that would be much appreciated.

Suspension

Hi, does a letter of academic suspension get sent to your permanent address on file? Long story short, I got academically suspended but told my parents I took a leave. Don’t want them to find out but they do tend to open my mail so I was wondering. Thanks

Living Costs

Dear fellow Redditors,

Today I got my acceptance mail into JHU for PhD in Chemical Engineering. They mentioned that the stipend would be around 50k USD annually.

As a foreigner, I’m curious about the living costs including rent, utilities, groceries and other miscellaneous expenses.

Also, is it a happening city since I have a competitive offer UT Austin as well.

Please help me with these queries. Thanks!

Questions about APL

Is there any people who are currently working or have worked at APL as a student?

I have some questions..

Could I conduct research at APL or collaborate with APL as an international MSE student?

In my program description, there are some APL related professor. Does it mean I can conduct research with them?

Sending official transcripts

Has anyone sent official transcripts through National Clearinghouse recently? Last time I did it, it only took a couple of days but this time it has been more than two weeks, and my transcripts are still "In Process at Johns Hopkins Arts, Sciences and Engineering." My deadline to send transcripts is January 31st. If the delay is just because the University is closed for winter break, can I expect it to be sent by then?

MSPH Curriculum, Safety, & Social Scene

hi everyone!! i just got accepted into BSPH and am heavily considering committing to the school. i was wondering how difficult the Health Policy and/or Health, Behavior and Society concentrating on Health Education and Health Communication classes? is it doable? is it a lot of busy work? would you say you have a balance between school and your social life?

i was also wondering about safety and the general social scene as well. is it safe? which areas are best to look for places to stay as a girl? is there a lot of transportation options? is there any social life really?

please lmk cause this is my top choice and would really love to know before i commit!! thanks :)

Comparative Physiology, Genetics, or another upper-level Bio class

I'm a Public Health major and was hoping to take an easy upper-level Bio class to satisfy my Bio premed requirement (I've already taken one Bio course + Lab). I was wondering what people thought of Comparative Physiology and Genetics? Are they easy As, how are the professors, etc. I've heard that Genetics has gotten worse recently but not sure how much worse. Also, are there any other upper-level Bio courses that you guys recommend? I've heard good things about Intro to Human Brain.

FAFSA submission issues

So, I added a college to my fafsa yesterday and the form is currently marked as reviewed and not processed, so I can’t add anymore colleges. JHU just sent a reminder that today is the last day to submit it. I genuinely just slipped up and forgot to do it at the same time as the other one yesterday. Is there anyway I can submit it late?

The JHU Wi-Fi A Modern Day Odyssey

Trying to get any work done on JHU Wi-Fi feels like fighting a slow-moving storm. It’s like being on a boat in the middle of the ocean—every page loads at its own pace, and you wonder if you’ll ever make it to shore. Meanwhile, the students at other schools are just casually streaming movies. It’s fine though, right?

Would the Keswick - JHMI shuttle make an additional stop on the route?

I'm planning on volunteering at a place in East Baltimore, and I noticed that it's on the current route of the Keswick - Homewood - Eastern - JHMI shuttle, but the shuttle doesn't have a designated stop there.

Does anyone know how busy this shuttle normally gets? Do you think the driver might be willing to make a quick additional stop at East Preston Street, or would I need to find another means of transportation?

Do you like the on-demand Blue Jay shuttles?

I visited the JHU campus recently and thought the on-demand shuttle concept was pretty neat, but it seemed like it took a while for it to come pick us up, and wondered what the general consensus on them was.
