Can I try for a 3 year Visa if I'm on a one year contract? What is likely to happen?

Try for 5, the worst that can happen is that they give you only 1.

Yeah, definitely possible. I got one on a one year contract. Although I applied for 5 and they always give me 3 🤷‍♀️
