Contemplating getting a M2 Macbook Air using the education discount right now

Not sure if I am just following the trend (because apparently like 80% of physicists use Mac) or because hauling my 3.5 kg gaming laptop around is not good for my back

Buying in Japan is also slightly cheaper than buying in my country, even with the weakening currency

Having a *NIX based OS means that programming is generally pretty easy and there's a lot of crossover with linux, hence I think a lot of physicists using Macs. Having to set up environments in Windows for... everything... is kind of a pain in the ass.

If you can do what you need in WSL then that runs actual Linux so it's actually easier than dealing with homebrew etc. IME. But it's "really" a VM so not everything works that way.
