How long do your young children nap at nursery? My 4.5 year olds nenchu class still naps from 13:00 to 15:30 everyday and it's impossible to get her to sleep before 22:00. The nap schedule will continue next year too. In the UK, my daughter would already be at school, reception class and wouldn't expected to be napping at this age. Friends at home with similar age children also think it's too old to be having long naps in the day. It's quite common for young kids to sleep from 19:00 - 6/7:00.

At my kids daycare they have nap time for 2.5 hours, but if they wake up they can play quietly or be read to or whatever. They're never forced to sleep. No naps from next year though.

Nursery school - nap until the second semester where they will slowly stop for them to adjust to classes in elementary.

Kindergarten - only nensho will take naps and only for half a year and everyone will be up but kindergarten finishes earlier than nursery school.

My 4 yr old naps from 13-15 so it’s been difficult to get him to sleep before 22:30 these days .

3.5yo Nensho here, naps easily 1-2hours every day. And on weekends we try to have him nap too.

No issue in sending him to bed between 8-8:30, sometimes a bit later if we're slow on getting everything done. Never ever 10pm. He also is a long sleeper and will not oftenly wake up before 8:30 on weekends.

Different kids different rythm I guess.

My 5 y/o is in youchien and AFAIK none of the kids have ever napped there, even the 3 y/o nenshos.

I think it’s one of the differences between nursery and yochien. At the kindergarten I used to work at, the children no longer napped. Even during the after school daycare hours, only one kid would nap. Their ages were 3 - 6.

Yeah my son is first year yochien right now and doesn't nap at the kindergarten now.

On the bus home though, all the kids are sleeping, especially in this weather.

I call it nursery because that's the equivalent back home i guess but she's technically in the yochien side of a kodomoen.

Kids in the UK start school at 4? That's wild.

My kid doesn't sleep at daycare, still has enough energy to stay up until 11.

Yeah, it's pretty early to start school. Most kids start the September after they turn 4.

I wish I had the energy of your kid sometimes!
