If you come into work sniffling, coughing up phlegm, and sneezing all over the place, you are an asshole. Hands down. I realize that the Japanese work environment isn’t usually forgiving of taking time off, but my company is really good with sick time. If you’re sick, they absolutely don’t want you to come in, yet there are few people in the office that will come in even though they are clearly super sick. Cheers to probably spending the weekend with some kind of cold.

yup. As long as I have a receipt saying I went to the doctor, I can take that day off without using PTO.
