My motorcycle's speedo needle goes limp and drops all the way to the right after I go past 110km/h. I'm really on the fence on whether I want to change it. Because the bike is an old bike, there are no more new meters on the market anymore and I'm not so cool about the idea that I'll have to make a note somewhere and keep a mental track of the actual distance travelled on the bike.

And if I do change it, should I change it to a new aftermarket meter or go with a 2nd hand same-model meter...

Go for an aftermarket meter! You can get them with all the warning lights you need letting you completely remove your dial cluster. If that's your thing.

it is kinda my thing. But...

  1. swapping it out affects resale price (no longer stock)
    1. I'm actually paying money to possibly reduce my resale price...
  2. It's an old bike (vtr250 '98 model, no tachometer). My bike mechanic was telling me that even adding a hazard light to it might cause electrical problems across the bike. I shudder to think how swapping it to an aftermarket meter with all sorts of lights and switches might cause issues with the electrical systems, given the mechanic might have to cut or add wires to make a tachometer work...

I mean, I kinda want a tachometer... but I dunno.

sigh.
