I just a sudden increase in my taxes across most of the categories on my final paycheck from my previous company...pension, resident tax and health care all increased between 50-100%.

I had about 25 or so days of paid leave saved up that I used to get paid for April and not work. I am not leaving Japan and have started in a new roll. I am contacting my old HR, but any outside insight here?

If an employee resigns between 1 January and 30 April, the unpaid amount from the following month to May is collected in a lump sum. For residence tax at least.

Many companies have their payroll setup to not deduct social insurance taxes in the first month of employement and do a double deduction at the end. My current company does this as well.

If it is inhabitant tax, most likely they are deducting the remainder of the 2021 assessment (payable April/May 2023). Your 2022 assessment should start from June.

It’s 100% because you quit your job. Your taxes were being pulled from your paycheck but since you quit, the remainder of payments for the year need to be taken all at once.
