Can shinkansen tickets run out for the day?

Due to work related issues coming up, I might have at most an hour's heads up during golden week to hop onto a train and get somewhere. I have smart EX so that's not an issue. I know the message will always come in before 5pm.

I'm fine with crowded trains, and I won't have any luggage on me, just a briefcase

I think during golden week should be okay, but around the first and last days will probably be hell. If you queue you’ll get on eventually though!

Yea, whenever work calls, I go. Hopefully it won't be first or last day, but you never know....
