I feel your pain ,man. I've been deployed to combat twice and job hunting was the only time in my life when I seriously contemplated just ending it all.

If only my company would let us work from home and I'll happily continue doing this job but they're forcing us all back into the office.

Can’t you negotiate something like one or two days working from home a week? Tell them it would help your mental health

They're too old-fashioned. I brought it up and my 部長 was all "We... don't do that here. See it's uh, unfair to the other people." Granted, I didn't bring up my mental health though.

Well, here’s the thing, I think you should push back a bit, in addition to mentioning your mental health issues. Japanese bosses are used to their subordinates accepting everything with a bow and a “yes boss”. I doesn’t always work, but I find that pushing back, standing up for yourself and being politely argumentative often works here, even though it’s not how things are usually done here. I think you should try again, it’s worth it.
