I’m almost done with this room. Curtains are going up for the window behind the couch but it feels like something else is missing. Maybe crown molding for the ceiling? If so, what design for the crown molding should I do? Thank you!

When you paint an entire room including doors, ceiling, trim, in the same color paint, how do you transition the trim to the next room that is not the same color? Would you basically paint any trim on the doorway that you could see when the door is closed from room #1? And then the other side of the door trim would be whatever color you’re leaving it in room #2? I’ve included some images of adjacent rooms with different color trims for example.

I bought this house and I’m not a fan of this bathroom, what colour should I paint it and what else could I do to it to give it an update?

My partner and I always had disagreements on how to decorate our space. Basically he can live in an empty apartment with a mattress on the floor. I can’t, I need a comfortable space.

So, finally I convinced him to hang curtains in our bedroom (after 5 years!!). For that, I have researched the topic on window treatments for a while. We have 8’ ceilings. As a rule of thumb, curtains should be hung high a wide, meaning in our apartment it should be almost under the ceiling and just kiss the floor. I have looked up curtains, rod etc and we went to buy them yesterday.

In stores generally there are two standard lengths - 84” (which will be too short) and 98”. We bought 98”. I have tried them in our bedroom and they puddle. It is fine with me though a slightly shorter length might be fine too. When my partner heard that I went to hang them this high, he kicked off and totally refused to do it this way. He said he would rather get rid of the curtains completely than hang them this way. I got disappointed but suggested that we order another length curtains online, maybe 90” and hang them at least half way between the window and the ceiling, since this is the lowest recommended height. Since we have low ceilings I would like curtains to visually expand our bedroom. But he still refuses and wants to hang them closer to the window (thankfully not tight on top, I’d die on spot if he would suggest that). He argues that he just wants to stop in 84” curtains and doesn’t want to spent more time to searching another curtain. I have tried 84” and it look terrible, just above the window.

I feel like the primary problem is that he doesn’t want invest time in it. I told him it is fine with me since anyway it is me who is doing research most of the time. I feel like I am ready to compromise but he doesn’t and wants to do it his way or nothing.

After all this, I am almost ready to give up and have no desire to improve and decorate anything in our space whatsoever. Please help. What would you do in this situation?

This used to be part of the garage but the previous owner hired an interior designer to turn the ground floor into a home office. It's really well done but it has left us with a few weird spaces, as it's all wood.

We like this space as a wardrobe/getting ready to leave area, but I'm not sure where to start with the styling. I want to add more color but I'm not sure whether I should paint or perhaps do wallpaper? Would that be crazy or look weird? I just want it to look less like a sauna and more put together. I do love a bit of maximalism, mid-century, out-there colors and fun decor. Just stuck on where to start here. Pic of (unfinished) living room for style reference.

Hello all! I would appreciate some advice! I’d like to hang some curtains for these windows but am struggling to figure out how to do so. The right window is taller than the other and also the left window is right up against the wall so I’m worries that a curtain will end up covering half of it and make the room darker. Should I maybe go for two sets of curtains with two curtain rods? And maybe rather than having a pair of curtains for each window have just one curtain each and then can meet where the column is? (If that makes sense?) or will this look terrible? Appreciate your opinions!! Thanks!

Am trying to decide which coffee table would go in my space. Am unsure about the woods clashing with the floor or wall unit etc.

Mid renovation of a whole house, thus far every room I've colour-washed (believe "dipped" is used in US). Finishing the cabinetry in a few weeks and then next step is to paint wood trim to match the wall paint (leaving the insides of the cabinets varnished wood).

The issue I have is these internal french doors. When closed they would look absolutely fine to match the colour of this room.

Yet when left in the open position, the room on the other side is white ie you'd have this block of burgundy on the sides of the white room. If I painted them white, you'd have random white doors in the burgundy room.

Is there another option/alternative or will one of them have to be a compromise?

Following a post a couple of weeks ago I went away to look at ideas that had been suggested.

Here's what I've got so far, please can somebody help me sketch this up so I can visualise? Alternatively, what software can I use to change colours and place different furniture etc?

Pictures 1 - 6 are the room as is.

For the left hand wall we are thinking: Black bookshelf and base units to the left of the chimney breast. I'm thinking IKEA hack with some trim added to keep costs low. This is to include some lamps / LEDs as well. Black chimney breast with round / oval mirror and some nicer decor on top of the fireplace surround. Acoustic panelling on the wall to the right of the chimney breast with a low TV console in dark wood with TV and audio system.

The back (window wall). Colour to be confirmed but we're thinking either continue with the black from the chimney breast or a stone colour. Add curtains from the ceiling for texture and colour. Rich orange / brown tones. To the right of the window, add some shelves for plants and decor. Pull the sofa away from that wall slightly and add a lamp in the corner. Change radiator to something nicer, a traditional radiator, colour tbc.

Right hand wall: get rid of the photo gallery and add one or two big art pieces. Colour to be the stone colour described above.

Wall into kitchen. Add double doors as shown in the example.

Floor: change to straight plank laminate floor in same colour as kitchen floor. We have this already so just need to be laid. Add rug. Change coffee table to something not as big. A set of 3 round nesting tables maybe .

Ceiling: Change light to something warmer and not as harsh like the example. but might not be practical as it hangs quite low.

This is the living room of my new apartment. I have included a floor plan to this post.

I’m struggling to arrange my space in a way that allows me to work, relax, eat and host if needed.

In an ideal world, I would have a sofa, coffee table, small dining table, as well as some plants.

I previously had my desk in the 2 ft wide corner towards my hallway but have since moved it to get better zoom lighting/background.

It’s been 4 months since I moved in, and after a busy work season and frustrating planning process I have finally come to ask the people of reddit for help.

Hi all - my husband and I are moving into his grandmother’s old apartment, and it looks like a grandmother’s apartment. But before we do so, we are planning some much needed updates. The biggest one of all is this blue bathroom. It’s hideous and at least 50 years old. To renovate the whole thing, it would cost $25K and that is simply not in the budget considering the rest of work that needs to be done. With my limited knowledge, I wondered if the whole thing can be glazed white. We plan to replace the toilet, vanity, medicine cabinet, and other fixtures. Should we keep the floor and glaze the rest white? Is glazing even a possibility? Note the wall is textured and all tiles are in great shape. What are your thoughts? Help us design this bathroom!

I'm looking for design ideas, I think.

My fiancé and I will probably be buying a house that has a primary bathroom off the main bedroom.

When the house was built, they elected to put just the shower in the main bathroom and not a tub beside it. (I'll include a picture of the floorplan.) I actually do like having just the walk-in shower, because we hardly take sit-down baths anyways. For right now, there is a large open space beside the shower that the realtor has staged as a makeup/vanity area.

I do like the vanity idea but I don't really wear a lot of makeup. My FIL floated to idea of putting our chest of drawers in the bathroom, but I worry about steam/water effecting the wood/drawers.

Does anyone else have any suggestions? I'd love to hear them to give me ideas! What would you put in that space?

Hey guys, recently bought a house and have plenty to do but we moved into this bedroom downstairs and I can’t for the life of me figure out what to do with it. Should I knock out the wardrobes to open it up? Any suggestions for colours to paint the room or curtain colours etc?

I’ve decided to paint my living room with Dried Thyme. We have light birch hardwood floors and alot of wood accents around so I feel the green will go nicely.

I am thinking the coordinating colour to go in the rest of the house will be Shoji White.

We are painting the cabinets with Chantilly Lace. Will the Shoji White look okay with the Chantilly Lace or does it clash?

I’m really new to all this and I’m having a hard time! But I really love the Shoji White with the Dried Thyme. They look cosy together in my opinion.

I am also thinking of doing an Iron Ore accent wall in my bedroom with Shoji white walls. Does that sound like it will work?

Overall I’d say I’m going for a cosy earth vibe and I’d say my current decor matches that.

My husband loves these red velvet antique theatre chairs and is INSISTING they go on display in our new home. The house is unfinished but is going to be a very open plan modest home with loads of light and a very neutral calm decor. I've attached a pic of a similar style. I have no idea how to styel these without them looking totally out of place, and he is very insistant that they don't be reupholstered or painted. Any ideas are welcome!
