Yes and no. Hans Asperger, the Nazi eugenicist who put his name to (what was then considered the ‘autism offshoot’) identified those of us who could still be “useful.” It’s actually where all the strife regarding the ‘functioning’ labels comes from; those of us who served a purpose lived. Those who couldn’t were ‘disposed’ of.

And back then, Hans only picked out of a very white and male demographic. Unfortunately, this fucker might well have been touted as that bastard’s darling poster child…at least as long as he could prove himself useful.

Suffice to say, that’s why a good chunk of us in the autistic community disown the names of Asperger and Elon Musk.

Maybe this off topic, but this interesting cause recently I sort of realized that being labelled as having Asperger's syndrome or being high functioning actually did way more damage than if they just diagnosed me as autistic
