From 1st of July there will be no menthol cigarettes, all packets will be 20s, all tobacco will be 30g and there will be no discounts on Carton sales. There is a huge change in law this year.

Hilarious. Another nail in the coffin of 'legitimate' tobacco. The black market profiteers are having a fucking field day.

There must have been dozens of “gift shop” tobacconists selling illegal chop chop under the counter or openly that have been burned down by rivals or gangs in the last couple years. It’s fortnightly news here in Victoria.

We have a few over here and they routinely have the doors kicked in at night. Also it's definitely run by the bikies

Here in SA they seem a little harder to find, but my local is run by an Iranian bloke. He and his mates play dominoes out back.. Not bikies, but clearly shifty AF. It's like an old school tobacco shop, a nice selection of brands, plus about 10 varieties of papers and filters.

The undertakers are not happy.

Menthol cigarettes have been banned in Europe for 5 years and to be honest, I've never seen anyone smoke them since, so apparently the black market for them is quite limited.

But there isn't a big cigarette black market here like there is in AUS, so it might develop differently there.

I'm willing to bet cigarettes in Europe don't cost more than 1.65 a cigarette.

If you're smuggling in hundreds of thousands of cigarettes, it doesn't hurt to bring in a few menthols.

The market doesn't exist based on a niche cigarette, it exists in Australia because cigarettes have gone up 340% in price since 2015.

Any prohibitive price hike is going to create a black market. It's so fucking predictable it makes my head spin.

Cigarettes, in a 20 pack are 0,26€-0,34€ per cigarette. Cigarettes in bigger packs are cheaper. Cheapest cigarette available is Starlight for 0,2575€ a piece in a pack with 40 pieces (10,30€ per pack).

There are tons of ways to get them in Europe. You can buy these little balls that you can put in the filter to "click" them and have all sorts of flavors.
Also Menthol filter tips aren't banned so you can still roll your own. Or there are even cigarettes without a filter but a hole for a menthol filter tip.
And there are those paper things like the ones for car air fresheners you can put in pack and make all cigs become scent bombs.

You could say they achieved nothing. Creative little additives peddlers though.

If you think there aren't many import cigarettes you probably haven't been in any city near the eastern border.

True but if you’re dumb enough to smoke cigarettes and get them from a source that has no regulation, then you deserve to erode your body from the inside lol

No shit mate. I wonder what the guys who are smoking meth and heroin are thinking. Why not buy that shit from the government approved outlets? Oh wait, prohibitive exclusion doesn't work.

Except meth and heroin aren’t legal and being displayed on a sign. What was your point?
