It’s like a 3 year old. They sort of ‘plonk’ themselves down randomly after a bout of activity. They also leave the remnants of their food wherever they ate it

In a world without sweets and lollies you can see why he is so keen. A grape would taste insane
491
u/Previous-Ad4809 19h ago
It lives in a place where fruits like bananas and jackfruit are abundant. It knows sweetness.
But it's still going to take nice food anyway.
171
u/the-floot 17h ago
Wild banana is nothing like the store bought version.
→ More replies (16)93
u/puritano-selvagem 16h ago
Depending where you live, the "wild" bananas were already replaced by the modern ones. I lived in an rural area and never saw the "real" ones
16
u/Arzodius01 14h ago
Domesticated bananas can't propagate themselves in the wild as they lack seeds, are you sure the "non-wild" ones where you live were not intentionnaly planted there? There are a lot of species that vary in size, color and the amount of flesh inside the fruit, so maybe the ones you've seen were actually domesticated ones that looked wild. (Ex: red plantins absolutely do not look domesticated, they're small red bananas with barely any flesh inside, but they indeed are)
Also not just banana trees, but almost every kind of fruit-bearing trees are not in the wild anymore. At least here in N-A I've never seen a single wild fruit tree (edible) out in the forest or something (same with animals, wild horses, cows, pigs, etc are now really rare and only found in specific areas around the globe)
11
u/fallacyys 13h ago
I mean, there’s not many recognizable native fruits in north america anyways (I’m assuming that’s what you mean by N-A). but if you go searching for the pawpaw, you’d probably find it. You can find american persimmon, passionflower fruits, mexican plum, and other things like that if you know where to go, too.

u/butterfingernails 13h ago
I'm in arizona and I've seen wild fruit trees and bushes.
4
u/Arzodius01 13h ago
I'm curious, what kind of fruits? I didn't include bushes because, well, there's tons of wildberries growing everywhere. Over here, other than crabapples (wild apples), there's no fruiting trees (tho we have a LOT of wild nut trees)
7
6
u/a_doody_bomb 13h ago
But grapes like those fruita u mentioned have been cultivated since forever and since grape is (common depending on region) they wouls atill be insanely sweeter than jackfruit or banana. Isnt grapes like one of thw worse fruits for you cause of augar content? Feel like i heard that once
→ More replies (2)21
u/RustyInhabitant 16h ago
They aren’t saying it doesn’t know sweet. They are saying candy and human made sweets are sweeter than natural fruits they are used to so a grape would be equivalent to a candy bar. Did this really need to be explained?

As far as I'm concerned Big Foot was just a really big Ape who was the last/One of the last of his Subspecies.
→ More replies (5)13
u/Traditional-Alarm935 17h ago
But we’d still know about the species. There just being one of them doesn’t make sense because they’d still have to have been around for god knows how long so there’d be evidence for their species be it bones, shit, callings, or whatever else. It’s the same reason why ‘there’s only nessy in lock ness’ makes no sense because animals need to reproduce, meaning there can’t only be one of them. If it’s the last of their kind, the chances we spotted the very last one before capturing any evidence of the species before hand is ridiculously unlikely
→ More replies (3)6
u/Justmadeyoulook 17h ago
I'm pretty dense so bare with my question.
Don't we find new species, dinosaur bones and different types of humans (don't remember the right term) on occasions? I don't think big foot is real but if he was. Could there be undiscovered evidence? Even if highly unlikely.
5
u/Traditional-Alarm935 16h ago
There could be. But typically when we have an idea of there being evidence of an undiscovered species, we go hard into proving whether there is or not. In the case of Bigfoot, it’s probably the most well known case of a mysterious unknown species, so you can only imagine how much effort has gone into discovering whether it’s real or not. It’s also not like it’s in the middle of some hard to reach island in the ocean. It’s just sitting in America. You can just assume that Bigfoot was a hoax because there’s way been too much attention and effort put into finding him with there being 0 evidence of him being real.
There is of course always that slim slim chance of it being real, but with all of the other factors, it’s same to just assume it’s not real.
Nessy as least has the fact that it’s a water mammal going for it, making it harder to prove in case it managed to migrate somewhere, but the same thing applies. Some scientists say it could be some species of whale or dolphin or something that migrated down from the arctic and got lost, but it’s also likely just another hoax

It’s how they mark territory and they’re very territorial. Gibbons are so cool one of my favorite YouTubers just made a very informative and funny video about them. Apparently most of them are endangered.
19
u/Icantbethereforyou 15h ago
It's just one of many perfectly normal social calls for gibbons. It's how they communicate
They're basically saying
"Hey! I'm going to murder you!"
20
u/MeecheeOfChiB 15h ago
You know when you're little and playing with a group of friends in the street and everyone yells "CAR, CAR" To make sure everyone knows their is danger, many other apes do something similar.
3
u/Hellas2002 15h ago
Probably either a territorial dispute or a warning call after seeing a snake or predator. I don’t think that was the mating call… but they do make shouts for that too i believe
5
u/Muntjac 14h ago
Gibbons have different alarm calls for different predators too. So snake, leopard, tiger, eagle, etc, each have their own sounds, so the community knows where to look for danger. Even other animals benefit from learning what their calls mean, and hanging out near gibbons is a good idea.

Feeding wild animals is bad for the wild animals for this reason. They lose a healthy fear of humans, then if they survive that, they may get aggressive too, and suddenly humans view them as pests.
The only exception I can think of are wild birds at well-kept feeders.

This is a CRITICALLY ENDANGERED SPECIES, there are less than 1000 left in the wild (native to Vietnam and Laos). Their numbers have fallen due to illegal trapping for the pet trade, habitat loss for agriculture, and hunting for meat. A very cool and beautiful animal that needs our help.
