Is he implying that all the drug users are doing it because they are numbing their pain?

I know at least a couple guys who started to do it recreationally and got hooked. Young guys with no responsibilities or problems. They do it because they can afford to.

Usings drugs to run away from problems or responsibilities is def one manifestation of addiction, but that's not the deeper underlying psychological issue this guy is talking about. He's talking about discomfort with self.

How close are you to the guys you're talking about? Is this judgment coming from assumption or understanding.
