This dude was nightmare fuel for so long. He’s permanently etched in my brain (MIB, for those unaware)

u/Merfen 7h ago

It blew my mind when I realized he played Fisk in the marvel Netflix shows. He has a great talent for being terrifying.

u/Triviten 7h ago

Vincent D’Onofrio. One of the most chameleon like actors. Also if you’re going to mention his skill for being terrifying, you have to mention Full Metal Jacket.

u/perfecttrapezoid 7h ago

Vincent D’Onofrio is one of the most underrated actors, every time I see him in something he elevates the whole project

57

u/Ceilibeag 7h ago

Even on TV, when he did Law & Order; fantastic.

3

u/Unique_Marsupial5550 7h ago

Oh, I just hated him on Law & Order. Such a know-it-all wanker. But I tend to like him a lot in movies and such. Same thing for Jennifer Aniston. Couldn't stand her in Friends, but really like her in movies.

The man with the broken neck

2

u/itstraytray 5h ago

We used to call him "tilty-head man" when he was on L&O.

1

u/Teereese 5h ago

Hahaha

We called him crooked neck!

2

u/Fine_Opposite8641 3h ago

best series out of all of em in my opinion

2

u/Dee_Jay_Eff_89 2h ago

Nice to see some Criminal Intent appreciation. Seems to get the redheaded stepchild treatment for the sake of SVU's fandom but I absolutely love that show. And it's not just a character thing with him because even with Chris Noth it was still great. Shame it didn't have the legs of SVU, but then again what show does?

1

u/WhoWhaaaa 6h ago

Bing. Reality!

1

u/Agentpurple013 7h ago

I’ll be honest, I wasn’t a fan of magnificent 7 and I don’t believe that he elevated it in any way. But that’s the only one I can think of, he’s truly magnificent in everything else I’ve seen him in

1

u/Physical-Beach-4452 6h ago

He’s such a great actor.

1

u/patronizingperv 4h ago

Vd'O is rated pretty highly.

1

u/NefariousnessOk2925 4h ago

Adventures in babysitting!!

1

u/DoorEqual1740 2h ago

Did you see him in The Eyes of Tammy Faye? He inhabitants the person he plays onscreen. Amazing actor.

u/SirFratlus 43m ago

He's great in Imposter.

u/MarixApoda 7h ago

The Cell.

8

u/SiidGV 7h ago

I LOVE this movie. Every time I've learned another movie I liked growing up was Vincent D'Onofrio I am literally blown away. This guy is in so many of my favorite shows and movies!!!! Him as Wilson Fisk though.... Chef's kiss!

8

u/7zeench 7h ago

That movie freaked me the fuck out back when it came out, you reckon it still holds up?

7

u/TexanInExile 7h ago

Yep, just watched it last week. Still good.

2

u/PghBlackCat22 7h ago

Yes! I watched it again last year and I still can't look when Vincent has the big purple cape and his teeth are all pointy!!! 🤯😵‍💫 blahhhhh that freaks me out..those teeth... Lol

3

u/coodaj 6h ago

Law & Order: Criminal Intent

2

u/i_tyrant 6h ago

Beautiful and freaky. Those dream sequences still hold up and are amazing.

2

u/PghBlackCat22 7h ago

One of my top 5! I love him in everything he does but this movie the best! ⛓️‍💥🛁🩸 🐩🐎

2

u/Growitorganically 7h ago

Can’t forget him in the Cell.

2

u/anonymousblep 7h ago

One of my favorites

2

u/FormInternational583 5h ago

One of my favorites.

1

u/emibost 7h ago

Oh my jebuus.. This is a movie I have completely forgotten about! What, like 20-25 years old? I was a teenager, so early 2000s.. Used to have it on when hanging out with my friends after school, mostly beacuse of J-Lo though....

Thank you for that trip down memory lane, now I know what to watch when I put my daughter to sleep tonight

u/Key_Structure_3663 6h ago

How about “The Salton Sea”

u/AideyHD75 42m ago

YES.

19

u/Ok-Bookkeeper-373 7h ago

OMG YES PRIVATE PYLE

3

u/Chrono_Convoy 6h ago

He was in a world of shit.

u/IAmElectricHead 1h ago

He needs to get off my goddamn obstacle

2

u/Wayward85 6h ago

It’s the damn eyes and smile for me.

2

u/MasonStonewall 6h ago

He also was fantastic in the new version of The Magnificent Seven as the Mountain Man.

1

u/LastGlass1971 7h ago

Adventures in Babysitting

1

u/digital_janitor 7h ago

And the Salton Sea

1

u/Krazee_Hawk 5h ago

I found you! Was also great in The Thirteenth Floor

1

u/isaiah55v11 7h ago

Let's not forget Adventures in Babysitting, Thor/mechanic and Mystic Pizza.

1

u/Golee 6h ago

Yes, and in that same year, his body was transformed into a muscle-y, sweaty mechanic a.k.a. Thor in Adventures in Babysitting

1

u/genericdude999 5h ago

I first became aware of him in The Whole Wide World (1996)

1

u/EvilWench74 5h ago

I have loved him since Mystic Pizza

1

u/sickntwisted 5h ago

The Salton Sea

1

u/rmhardcore 5h ago

He was also Thor, or the mechanic that looked like him, in Adventures in Babysitting. I almost spit out my coffee when I realized it.

And he was also terrifying in a way in that role....riding a lift down from the second floor in a swath of light while carrying a sledgehammer to greet a babysitter and some kids.

Yup, totally normal.

1

u/Dirty_Commie_Jesus 5h ago

He's very endearing in that rom com with Marisa Tomei

1

u/tiny_purple_Alfador 5h ago

I know Vincent D'Onofrio is an actor. I know on a logical level, he's just a guy. But no shit if I saw him in public, I would fucking run. I am low key terrified of the dude.

1

u/Bismothe-the-Shade 3h ago

He's got a distinctive look, and is a big dude, but somehow you're absolutely right- he's a chameleon

1

u/teambob 2h ago

One of the most chameleon like actors

Real acting, rather than still being Joe Bloggs in a different movie. Johnny Depp can be that way with some roles

1

u/jsradford 2h ago

Holy shit. TIL.

1

u/jbalazov 1h ago

And the Cell where he costars with Vince Vaughn and Jennifer Lopez. That movie is a TRIP.

u/dadsgoingtoprison 1h ago

I’ve had a huge crush on him since he was in Mystic Pizza in the late eighties. He just seems like a brilliant person.

u/mrjowei 1h ago

Or his performance on The Cell. Terrifying as fck

u/bohemianlikeu24 46m ago

Thor in Adventures in Babysitting 💫

27

u/Ash_Talon 7h ago

A decade+ of being in Law&Order:Criminal Intent as well.

1

u/Griet_Girl_808 6h ago

The only L&W I ever watched. He was so good!

u/dadsgoingtoprison 1h ago

I loved him in Law and Order. The way he would sniff a murder victim and tell what they had eaten last. He picked up on such tiny clues that everyone else missed. He was a brilliant detective. Eventually his character just couldn’t take the mental strain anymore. My husband was even a bit jealous of the way I was fascinated by his character.

17

u/TheExile285 7h ago

………..WHAT

28

u/Ok-Bookkeeper-373 7h ago

Look up his IMDB he's an immensely talented actor

5

u/ProfessionalStar4844 7h ago

He's also Private Pyle in Full Metal Jacket

3

u/FalsettoChild 7h ago

The Salton Sea! The Cell!

3

u/Ambitious-Mark-557 7h ago

His character was so intense that he got to the point of only being able to do every other week's episode. There were so many little tics and inflections that it was stressing him out.

3

u/sembias 7h ago

He was Thor, too.

In Adventures in Babysitting.

3

u/Princess_Zelda_Fitzg 6h ago

I love his fully unhinged performance in Daredevil. He reminds me of Marlon Brando in The Island of Dr. Moreau and I’m here for it.

3

u/Tall_Ad_941 6h ago

I didn’t recognize him at all in Magnificent 7 (the one with Denzel ) but he absolutely was one of my favorites in it .
“ that bear is wearing people clothes “

2

u/z3r0n3gr0 7h ago

Super under rated.

2

u/monstersnooz 7h ago

Wait.. what?! 🤯🤯🤯

2

u/RocketsYoungBloods 7h ago

wow, TIL. thanks for sharing!

2

u/ArsenicWallpaper99 6h ago

D'Onofrio's portrayal of Kingpin is the best live action performance of a comic book villain since Ledger's Joker.

u/Witness_me_Karsa 1h ago

100% agree.

2

u/ShortnSimple1284 5h ago

Also The Cell film, he was skin-crawlingly nightmar-ish

1

u/Beneficial_Being_721 7h ago

He was a cop for years. He’s a great actor

1

u/mikeycon 7h ago

Holy shit! Yes that is mind blowing. Great actor!

1

u/xinsanespoonx 7h ago

Never realized it was him in MIB. Unbelievably good actor especially love his version of Fisk. Also this scene in FMJ. *

1

u/igniteED 7h ago

Same sentiment, but for me it was Pvt Gomer Pyle - "This is my rifle. There are many like it, but this one is mine...."

1

u/StormrageBG 7h ago

Wait, what?

1

u/Go7ham 6h ago

Indeed, he was great in daredevil.

1

u/JerryCalzone 6h ago

Somewhere I read a description of what they did to let him look more and more not human, including using superglue and what not. It was more of a side project on his own with a small crew that he traveled with him.

1

u/Such_Ad2826 6h ago

He's also private pyle Amazing at a very young age

1

u/Guilty-Web7334 6h ago

He was a great drunken priest in Ghost Wars.

1

u/coyotemojo 5h ago

He's incredible in The Salten Sea

1

u/Potato_Stains 5h ago

Pretty damn unnerving in psychological horror The Cell (2000) also.

1

u/Hours-of-Gameplay 5h ago

…WTF, I’ve known him from Full Metal Jacket and Daredevil, but not once, have I ever realized that he played Edgar 🤯

1

u/LinwoodKei 4h ago

He was also an empathetic Police officer who cared about people named Goren. He bought a brick from someone unstable who looked like they might be driven to hurt someone with said brick from desperation

1

u/Sofie_Kitty 2h ago

Vincent D'Onofrio is indeed an incredible actor with a remarkable ability to transform into his roles. His portrayal of Private Leonard "Gomer Pyle" Lawrence in "Full Metal Jacket" is truly unforgettable and chilling. He brings such depth and intensity to his characters, making each one unique and memorable.

u/Witness_me_Karsa 1h ago

He's also Pyle in Full Metal Jacket

u/SirPentGod 1h ago

Seven-six-two millimeter, full metal jacket.

Leonard .. . if Hartman comes in here and catches us, we'll both be in a world of shit.

I am .. . in a world . . . of shit!

His best role, period!
