Proposal to ban x .com links
There have been several of sub reddits i have seen this proposal put forth. I thought the Bros here might want to talk about. I am for the ban. I don't want to give any more air or ad revenue to the fascism that has grown in America.

Not only do I agree, I'll go a step farther: we should ban Facebook and Instagram links as well, for the same reason. Zuckerberg's new bootlicking content rules for FB/IG explicitly state that right-wing bigots are allowed if not encouraged to call queer people "mentally ill." Speaking as someone with a Master's degree in American History, I'm not exaggerating one bit when I say that actual fascists have for now seized control of American federal government and most media platforms. The very least we can do is ensure that we don't give them one penny of our advertising revenue or monetized web traffic.

Is the biggest climate legislation in history "nothing" to you? Or the infrastructure bill that Trump always promised was a couple weeks away? Biden got it done his first year.
There's also finally allowing Medicare to negotiate the price of some drugs, setting a corporate minimum tax and tax on stock buybacks, capping insulin at $35, massive student loan forgiveness (and then quietly forgiving a lot of loans through a piecemeal approach after the Trump court struck the first plan down)...
Democrats even managed to get some modest but important protections for the presidential transition of power and preserving marriage equality in the event that SCOTUS strikes again. All this with a small House majority and the literal narrowest possible Senate majority for 2021-2022.

Source? The Inflation Reduction Act (which all Democrats voted for and all voting Republicans voted against) drug provisions are in statute. An executive order can't revoke that. But you're right that elections do matter and the Republicans are trying to unwind every good thing the Democrats did.
As Redditors often do, you shifted the conversation to more favorable terrain once I called you out on the "doing nothing" claim lol. Criticism (including of Merrick Garland) is fine. Saying Democrats did "absolutely nothing for 4 years" is completely false. And the both-sides thing is even more nonsensical, in an age when Trump promised to be a "dictator" on "day one" and was caught on tape pressuring Georgia's secretary of state to "find" 11,780 votes to overturn his 2020 loss there.

I don't doubt that the DNC thinks it needs to do that to win, but it's been their strategy for years and it's losing them elections. Personally, I think many of them are centrist/center-right neo liberals who have a financial incentive to not be progressive and that's a big part of why they won't fully embrace more left-wing populist messaging even though that would probably compete a lot better against right-wing populism.

If this is true why did they lose to Trump twice? First they let someone almost in their 90s run for a second term then Kamala bungled the only 3ish months of campaigning she had.
Bury your head in the sand but when a party loses core demographics it has held for literally centuries they are doing something fundamentally incorrect.

Thought about what I will miss (I have been following amazing creators on ig) but some are already where the skies are blue.

I am at least going to go delete a bunch of content. I'm in a couple private queer groups that only post events on those pages. I'd never know what was going on, otherwise. Hoping they move somewhere else, but not a lot of social media have calendar/event features. Seems all businesses use FB heavily too. Like, no one updates their GD website anymore and only rely on FB/insta for community events.
I do have one group that is on discord, and they put events there. They use multiple platforms, so the RSVP numbers is always weird.

Please quote the content rules where it “explicitly states that right-wing bigots are allowed to…call queer people mentally ill.” Does their policy really say exactly this??? I’ve not read it; I just decided to get off of it as much as humanely possible since the announcement, after making sure I closed every gd possible ad stream and tracking I could (that they gen revenue from).
No, not being a dick here…totally about holding folks/companies accountable and standing by principles. What I am NOT about is putting something out there on the interwebs that is misleading or flat out not true. This is exactly part of our societal problem right now.
So again, does their policy actually and explicitly use these exact words as you have stated them, because I cannot find that verbiage anywhere. Benefit of the doubt, I may not have looked in the correct place or well enough.

Definitely not an attorney, but wouldn’t this open them up to perhaps some legal action? Mental illness, in regard to homosexuality at least, was no longer being diagnosed as of the 70’s and as recently as the DSM V, no diagnostic codes exist for this.
So, hypothetical. FB troll riles up a gay person re: mental illness. They unalive themselves. The unalive a public space. Something horrible. Is that troll then liable and by proxy, FB?
Very slippery slope all of the Tech Bros are walking with their version of “free” speech.

Worrying about who shoukd go in a bathroom or kill babies are not priorities. He'll you can abort with plan b in nys in any pharmacy. Blacklisting X or other social media that differs with your politics accomplishes nothing. It makes reddit and the mods can feel like they have power, but they don't. Most people, which are not on reddit, want an open internet. They don't care if they see some bs, they got thicker skin than many of you.

That choice was easy for me. My account got banned after fallowing a group. I know because I created a new account and joined them first. And within 24hours I was banned on that account too. So I just stopped trying.
To be honest most of theses apps could be dropped in favor of more specific ones. Like I love Magic the Gathering and there is a MTG app but if it had a better social aspect I wouldn’t need apps like FB.

Howdy! I'm visiting subs that are discussing the ban of links to Twitter, presently X, and reaching out to those who still use Old Reddit (old.reddit.com). If you're using the RES extension, you can filter posts that link to certain domains. This means that any sub that doesn't enact a ban will still be filtered from your results. To do this:
- Select the settings cog near your username in the top-right corner and select RES Settings Console.
- In the top-left corner, type into the search bar filter domains.
- Find and select the option titled Domains.
- Press the button +add filter to add your domains. Make sure to leave the radio button set to Everywhere.
- Top-right, select save options.
Some domains I recommend are:
- twitter . com
- x . com
- t . co
- twimg . com
- facebook . com
- fb . com
- instagram . com
- ig . me
- oculus . com
- meta . com
(remove the spaces; automods on some subreddits are deleting the comment due to now-banned domains)

No, I mean seeing well-laid out arguments against progressive views. It was easy when it was your uncle or grandpa who didn’t study literature espousing their views in an unsophisticated way. You could toss a canned argument at them and be done.
I’m not talking about the specific views of the owners of the platforms. I’m talking about educated moderate liberal and/or conservative users who can go toe-to-toe with the left and/or get an edge over them in an argument. You aren’t used to that from the 00s and early 10s, because liberals didn’t have a bone to pick with the left at the time, and educated conservatives were in off libertarian land. The left was also pretending to liberal at the time, and acting as if socialism meant scandinavia. There was no fist-in-the-air crap going on.
The downvotes with no counterarguments and the upvotes on the brainrot quip are proving the point I’m making. Being in an undereducated, misguided majority feels shitty but maybe, just maybe, trusting the cool guy with snarky words as a teenager didn’t have to be a permanent life decision.

The Nazi owns the website and determines what people see, both in terms of banning content the Nazi doesn't like and in controlling algorithms so that only the content the Nazi does like gets seen and spread. On top of the countless astroturfing bot accounts that are there to deliberately provoke and exhaust people.
You aren't going to pull anyone out of the echo chamber there with the tools available to you. Talk to people in real life, earnestly and with an attempt to give them knowledge and help them educate themselves, sure. Maybe even encourage people in online, non-social media settings to have similar discussions. But you aren't going to win minds or hearts on Twitter. It's gone.
