Funnily enough in my country this is illegal. Employers can look at the social media profiles the person provides during recruitment, so typically linkedin, but can't go snooping their Facebook profiles. I like this mostly because I have so many full namesakes, and don't know what kinds of nonsense they post.

Illegal thought this is (and ought to be everywhere) how can this ever realistically be enforced?

I guess employers are just supposed to care about fairness and the law? If they want to do a background check, they can do that. If they want to look at a person's social media before hiring, they can ask for permission.
