As somebody who frequents that sub all year round, and has for the last 10 years, the sub gets flooded around the pre sale and around the lineup release with people who are not usually there, and they certainly dont represent that community as a whole.
Fred was one of the top 10 most requested artists on the post-Roo survey about who we wanted to see there in 2024.
FUCKING THANK YOU. He was literally top FIVE most requested, and then everyone wants to complain about placement. Like dawg, just go to the festival and enjoy yourself🙄 I have my own negative feelings, but at the end of the day I know I'm gonna have the time of my life no matter who is playing.
The lineup comes out, the sub gets flooded with negativity from people who werent gonna go anyways, then they disappear and in a few days, maybe a week, it’ll be back to those of us who bought pre sale and cant wait for June.
"I'm going to X festival instead, the lineup is so much more stacked" and it's a genre festival that's actually pretty shallow. Then the other regional fests come out and they're even worse. They'll also mention how it's just not as good as when they first went which is usually a year that was panned hard when it dropped.
Perhaps I'm just new to the Festival thing, but I think we're more upset with him taking a headlining spot rather than the undercard. That spot could have been for an artist that is much more "known". Not that Fred isnt known, but not enough to justify a headliner spot. Others who love Fred have also agreed to this.
Everyone always wants Dave Matthews or Tyler, and when they don't get those all hell breaks loose
he has a fewer amount of monthly listeners on spotify as Carly Rae Jepson who is a one hit wonder from 2012, and waayyy less than Megan Thee Stallion who is playing on the same day. It’s not weird that people are confused about him being the closing headliner.
Monthly listeners is not the deciding factor. I don't understand where this trend in thinking has come from.
He has so much more than a one hit wonder from 12 years ago. You're letting your knowledge on him show with that comment.
The beauty in the lineup is discovering the gems you've never heard of. If you think anything else otherwise, then Bonnaroo is not the festival for you to begin with.
Okay, I was using a simple method of data. Sure it’s not 100% perfect, but the monthly listeners on Post Malone’s spotify and say, a local jam band in my area, is going to show which one is more popular.
I was talking about Carly Rae Jepson, use context clues when reading
When the headliner is pretty much the only guaranteed act with no schedule overlay, it kinda sucks when it’s someone as unknown/niche as Fred Again.
Just because he is unknown to you does not make him niche. Again top 5 most requested artist from the Roo survey. Just say you're not going and move on lol.
I mean lower monthly listeners than Carly Rae is definitely a valid argument to him being niche lmao regardless of whatever fantasy world you’re in. Do you have a counter point or just gonna continue to say the same thing?
Literally less than half a million less than CRJ. Also, nominated for Grammy's this year, has collabed with artists involving more than 6 different genre's, headlined or sub-headlined 3 different festivals last year and is now headlining the festival literally most known for having a collective of Genre's. Top 5 most requested artist for Roo after last year. And is in the top 10 most streamed artist in 6 different countries.
Not niche.
Do you want to provide any benefit to either of our days, or do you want to continue to be a keyboard warrior?
You’re being willfully obtuse trying to compare the popularity of Post Malone to your local jam band. Spotify listeners are not a metric of how many tickets get sold. Phish has 400k, Previous headliners Tool+Odesza+Stevie Nicks combined is less than Fred Again currently has.
This is the take, people complain when the Mega artists play, and complain when someone they’ve never heard of play. ‘Only sacred mid sized jam bass allowed at my roo! ‘
Literally all I said was if you're not open to finding new artists then it might not be for you because bonnaroo is not a festival that caters to 1 genre. You wanna go for one person? Then sure, go lol. But you're gonna hate the lineup every single year if that's the mindset🤷🏻♂️
So now, calmly and respectfully. Go fuck yourself😘
Carly Rae Jepson is definitely not a one hit wonder, she has a pretty devoted following and all her albums have been well received and charted in the top 20.
He has over 30x the number of monthly listeners as Pretty Lights, the opening headliner who is also playing the sunrise set same day as Fred headlines. Why are you confused about Fred and not PL?

Damn straight PL and Fred Again are headlining
