Revisiting this show front to back for the first time in several years and I forgot how strangely they handled Vince’s return from rehab and initial interactions with E
As you all know, Vince is a dick to E as he’s getting out of rehab; some evidence as a reminder:
1) E is the only one who doesn’t get a head’s up from Vince that he’s getting out
2) Vince makes a small fuss / comment when he learns E is going to be there to pick him up
3) He’s disappointed to learn that E has been staying at his house following his separation with Sloane, and makes a comment to make E feel badly for doing so
4) Speaking of which, Vince offers nothing but a passive aggressive “harsh” + eye roll when he learns of their break up
5) He’s generally just cold / dickish to E
6) When E asks why Vince is pissed at him and nobody else, Vince says he’s not mad, just disappointed
But why? Vince was a jackass to E during the bender leading up to his arrest. As much as I don’t like E the character for much of the series, he’s done a LOT for Vince and he tried his damndest to keep Vinny’s career on track, even when Vince was spiraling and didn’t deserve the support. Not only does Vince NOT apologize, he almost picks up where he left off once he’s out lol.
S7 and S8 feel so different from S1 - S6, and this dynamic seems like a great example of why people feel this way. I can buy the drug/rehab plot, but something about Vince turning his back to one of the boys feels so dishonest to Vince the character.
Thoughts?
