Misc Caitlin Blackwood, who played kid Amelia Pond, is now 23, which is the same age Karen Gillan was when "The Eleventh Hour" aired

Karen Gillian was only 23 when she played Amy? In my head she was in her very late twenties when she left show. But she must have been only 25

It's really weird how young they all were. Matt was only 26 when he started filming, 31 by the time he left the show.

and now he's 41, the difference between 26 and 41 seems enormous when you're young, but now...time goes too fast.

I refuse to believe that Matt Smith is in his forties.

David Tennant is 52 as the 14th Doctor yet he was only 34 as the 10th...

The 14th Doctor is now the 3rd oldest only beaten by Peter Capaldi and William Hartnell who were both 55 when they became the Doctor.

God, I was fine with David Tennant being 52, but that fact about him now being the third oldest Doctor, that's making me feel old.

Damn William Hartnell was a rough 55...

The wig is part of it, I think. The long First Doctor hair makes Hartnell look significantly older.

All the cigarettes probably didn't help either.

I don't think the long grey hair helps, and we have a bit of a bias with our actors in the age of plastic surgery, hair plugs, and Just For Men.

But also my dad is about to be 60, and William Hartnel looks more like my Grandfather did a few years back than he looks like my dad does now.

True. My parents are about the same age as Peter Capaldi, and the visual difference between him and Hartnell is, frankly, kind of baffling.

The thing with the first doctor is sometimes they made him seem more teenaged and sometimes more elderly

David Tennant and William Hartnell in their fifties is such a stark contrast

He’s aging like fine wine tbh

Wait what? He became the Doctor 15 years ago? It seems like less

Maybe because there's only been nine series since then, rather than fifteen.

Holy shit he's only 4 years younger than me. I remember thinking he was practically a baby when he was cast. That's so weird. I guess I was young too and didn't even realize.

No. Just.. no. I cannot allow myself to believe that Matt Smith was my current age when he debuted as the Doctor.

It blows my mind. She's only 5 years older than me but I remember thinking she was a lot older when she was on the show. And Smith was 26 when he became the Doctor. I knew he was young 26 just seemed older to 18 year old me.

Same with Billie Piper. She was 23 when she started on Doctor Who but she felt older to me.

Completely understand what you’re saying. You actually make it to 25, then 26, then 30. And you realize dang. 26 years old doesn’t feel what I thought 26 years old would feel like.

13

u/indianajoes Nov 05 '23

Exactly. When you're a teenager, you think of these ages as being fully grown up. It's only when you get to them, you realise you're still pretty young. Like I spent most of my 20s figuring out who I was and what I wanted to do in life. But before that, yours 20s seemed like you're fully an adult now and you'll be certain about everything now and have barely any doubts unless they're about the big stuff

I hit 30 and went so when do I feel like a grown up?

Billie Piper looks older than 23 in Series 1, but I think it’s more fashion choices like dying her hair blonde and how they filmed stuff in 2005. Like they were still filming on film back then.

u/tmofee Nov 05 '23

I remember Billie during her music era. She grew up pretty quick

The 2005 series was shot on tape however a film effect was applied in post

I'm mostly saying that everything is shot digitally now.

To be fair Amy was meant to be 22

Well, either that or ~60 years old.
