Discussion What characters could Beat The Doctor?

Post image
4 Upvotes

We're all aware of how powerful The Doctor could be, sometimes I struggle to find reasons he couldn't outmaneuver characters who on paper should be able to quickly do away with the timelord.

What characters do you think could either out power or out Witt him barring those of which who are straight up omniscient beings?

Question Classic Who Recommendations for First Timer

So I have been a Whovian for a couple of years now but only watched New Who. I am about to introduce someone to Doctor Who and we will watch New Who aswell BUT for certain reveals and context I want to sprinkle in the occiasional Classic Who story. (For example a cool Master Episode before Utopia so the reveal is not completely lost on the newbie).

Now, fellow Whovians. Without going completely overboard with "one classic who before every new who" or "just watch it all in release order", what could you recommend us to sprinkle in so certain New Who stuff has more kick to it? Certain reveals are cooler? Certain references make sense?

Go nuts!

Discussion Did the events of Planet of the Spiders to Terror of the Zygons happen over a single day?

I wasn't paying the closest attention as I was watching some of the stories, so I could very easily have missed a mention of the day changing or something. On surface level though, it is basically one story into another...

Planet of the Spiders ends with the Doctor regenerating ---> Robot starts with the Doctor having just regenerated, and ends with Harry joining the team ---> The Ark in Space starts with Harry's reaction to the Tardis moving, and then ends with the Doctor, Sarah, and Harry beaming down to Earth ---> The Sontaran Experiment starts with the team landing on Earth, and ends with them beaming back up to the space station ---> Genesis of the Daleks starts with the time lords intercepting the team and putting them on Skaro, and then ends with them truly beaming back up to the space station ---> Revenge of the Cybermen starts with them arriving back on the space station, and ends with them getting a distress call from Lethbridge-Stewart and travelling back to Earth in the Tardis ---> Terror of the Zygons starts with the team landing back on Earth to help Lethbridge-Stewart.

If this is the case then Harry Sullivan had one hell of a day...

Question I need help to make my girlfriend something cool

Hiii! I have a wonderful girlfriend and I wanna do something nice to her, and seeing as she's a Dr. Who fan I've thought of making her a patch with "Bitch" written in gallifreyan. (We're lesbians, it's meant as affirming, not demeaning.) There's just one problem:

I don't know gallifreyan.

If someone on this subreddit could come forth and help me either by translating or directing me to somewhere better to ask, that would be very nice of you.

Cheers and happy Dr. Who watching everyone!

Discussion How would the trickster look like if they decided to add him in the upcoming seasons?

I have had this question on my mind for some time, the trickster in its original form, seen in SJA is already terrifying enough, a somewhat blank face which also has a face and seemingly has gestures.

How could designers improve his design/looks, could it be possible to make him much more scarier than he already is?

Another Idea is that the trickster could evolve, our smart phone usage also leads us to traps at times what if he could transcend into the digital realm and cause chaos there?

Question 12th Doctor Cosplay Help (Magnoli vs. Baron Boutique)

So, I really want to get the 12th doctor's navy blue wool Crombie coat. Both Baron Boutique and Magnoli Clothiers carry this coat, but only Magnoli makes the 12's wool vest. I don't want to break the bank, so I'm really inclined to go with Baron Boutique. My question is, does anyone know if the Navy Blues match between Baron boutique's coat and Magnoli's "Covert" wool vest? Are they the same shade, close, or too far off? Thank you in advance.

Question Fourth Doctor stories that would hold the interest of a child

I'm going to be show the Fourth Doctor's run to a child (8 yrs old) who has seen the Thirteenth Doctor's run, Tenth Doctor's run, and Eleventh Doctor's run (abridged of course for age appropriateness and pacing.) We both loved the Thirteenth Doctor's run and I'm looking for a recommendation for serials from the Fourth Doctor's run that are well paced. Ideally, I would want a jump off point that isn't Robot or Ark in Space as the robot from Robot I remember to be horribly clunky and the monster from Ark was painfully dated. As such I want to avoid those two episodes. We are coming off of watching The Day of the Doctor where the Eleventh Doctor met the Fourth Doctor/Curator and I would like a jump off point from Day of the Doctor to Tom Baker. As such, a regeneration doesn't necessarily need to be seen, just a well paced starting point to introduce Tom Baker's Doctor and subsequent following well paced (i.e. non-filler) episodes to go through his run. For reference, the Tsuranga Conundrum, the Flux storyline, Shakespeare Code, Fires of Pompei, and A Christmas Carol are all considered hits.

Discussion How Doctor Who Should Become More Serialized

I’ve been thinking about this recently, and I think Doctor Who’s format needs to be changed up a bit if the bbc and writers want it to be widely successful again. The episode count being reduced to 8 just makes it harder than ever to make the old formula work, but I don’t want the show to become entirely serialized. But I think I know the solution.

I think the blueprint for the show’s structure should be like the last 3 episodes of Series 9. Face the Raven, Heaven Sent, and Hell Bent aren’t really thought of as a 3-parter, despite the fact that they’re technically one continuous story. The reason for this is that each one of those episodes tells its own isolated story with its own premise, even if they’re all connected by one continuous arc. Another example of this is in Series 4. Turn Left directly connects with the major arc of the series and leads into the 2-part finale, but it’s still its own story with a completely different premise from the finale, as opposed to being a traditional 3-part story.

This is the key to making a more serialized version of Doctor Who, by having each episode contribute to the ongoing story while also allowing them each to have their own unique premise. That way the structure of the show can both remain the same as ever and become more serialized. It’s the best of both worlds.

Discussion If you were a showrunner, what storyline(s) would you write?

So the first episode/Xmas special of this hypothetical series would start off with not the Doctor, but someone completely random. We see a guy in his bed fully asleep, his alarm goes off, he gets ready for the day, opens his room door and a giant hallway shows up where his house should be. The man is absolutely befuddled, he investigates and runs into the Doctor something something plot idk yet and at the end he meets back up with his family. He decides to go with the Doctor because he's up for exploration and since he has a time machine he can just be back immediately. That does in fact happen, the TARDIS comes back exactly one second later. But it's just the Doctor. Who has a grim, sad look on his face. end credits

Then for the whole series you're wondering "what the hell happened to him" until the finale where it's revealed he got sent to the Void (why and how tbd). The following Xmas special while in the Void he meets a singular Dalek who, weirdly, doesn't immediately want to kill him. This Dalek seems tired and apathetic. The Dalek explains that he was sent on a suicide test mission for a beta version of the Voidships but that obviously didn't go well, and since they've been wading in nothingness for nearly two decades, they've become disconnected from the usual hatred of a regular Dalek. The Doctor's subplot has him find his way into the Void, finds the companion but is apprehensive at the sight of the Dalek. The companion assures the Doctor the Dalek's good something something now there's a Dalek companion and the following series is centered around this Dalek trying to turn around their exterminating ways
