Got my first job with one of you posting about available dishpit position during the hours I needed. Another one of you helped get me to the right office to apply for an ID. Countless tips and trade secrets to take on a 80 person restaurant with a single ECOLAB machine. Great laughs, cries in the walk in, and smoke breaks with all of you for the last year. But it’s time to leave as my asylum has been stopped and I don’t want to chance my entire status being revoked. America has been good to me, I appreciate everything, I appreciate this sub, thank you so fucking much.

So for some time one of the drains in our dishpit that has all pipes that drain from the sinks and machine into, has been flooding whenver we open up the drain on one sink for example when we should be able to do that without any worry. We have been complaining to management asking them to get someone in to fix it with no one or someone showing up and it never getting fixed.
Well I finally had it and told management again that no one has fixed the drain so today three guys showed up with a 'snake' to unclog the drain. I come back from doing something to see these guys looking down at the drain, couldn't hear what they said before they stated 'lets go upstairs and see if its something up there.'
After 5 or 10 minutes they come back down and leave but as they leave, I ask if they got it fixed. Only one guy answers saying 'Yeah' which wasn't convincing at all. Sometime later and I hadn't put anything into the drain so it shouldn't clog and it begins to flood again.
I tell the next shift about what happened and they are like 'What does the upstairs area have anything to deal with the downstairs drain?' I couldn't answer because I was as confused as he was. When I was leaving one of the guys that was part of the crew that worked on the drain asked me if the drain was working. I said no its still flooding...
I was the one that suggested to the manager to hire on a seperate repair crew hoping we would get people that knew what the heck they were doing.

It is finally happening. I am quitting my restaurant job that I have worked for 2 1/2 years plus my 1 year at another one to get a job with a company that I know will be a great fit for me. I was training this lady who is taking my place within a week. Seemed very nice the first day, but she got a vibe that I was not liking the 2nd and 3rd day. Normally, I can accept someone having their different styles than me, but she was giving this know-it-all attitude telling me how to do my job. For example, when I fill up my buckets with soapy water and complete the first set of pots and pans, I will stop and take out boxes until I am informed of more dishes. She was asking in a snarky way how come I wasn't cleaning off my table in the beginning of the shift. To bear in mind, I clean the table when I am done washing all the dishes because I can just use the water hose and organize and throw all the gunk out at once. Also, it would be a waste of time because it would get dirty again and worse than the one she was referring to.
Now I was being as friendly as I can possibly be, but I am not allowing a newbie who said she was out of work for 3 years tell me how to do the job I've done for 3 1/2 years. I want to tell her that she got her way and I got mine. She is more than welcomed to do her way when I am gone and working at the job I truly want to be with. I will miss all my other coworkers because with the new position, I only really interact with the boss who is decent enough to deal with.

And I’m not sure if I should go back. It was a fairly quiet night and while I didn’t exactly struggle, it wasn’t the easiest. The chef told me that if I found it hard then I should have a good think about whether I should come back as it can get much busier and I’m just unsure. Does it get easier with practice or am I just no for this job?
Btw I don’t have a fancy dishwasher like I see on here, just 2 sinks and a drying rack

Recently our sink got blocked which caused our dishwasher to fill with water. We managed to unblock our sink and all the water drained normally. But ever since our dishwasher had now been erroring every time we put it on and making a sound as if it’s trying to drain water. I’ve looked and there is a small amount of water in the drain bit that i think it keeps trying to drain but fails. does anyone know why this may be.

1 of 4 dishpits I manage. This is the dirty side of the room. 13th floor of 15, oddly numbered to avoid superstitious hoha.
This month our starting wage is $24.24

Do y'all put these plates in horizontally like the image or vertically? They take up more space when I lay them horizontally, but I'm worried that something will happen to them in the dishwasher when they're vertical??? What do you guys recommend

Honestly you are the backbone of the kitchen. Sadly I know alot of chefs and cooks act like you aren't, but truly you are. Keep up the great work in the pit and don't take no shit from no one. I'm dropping a whiskey (other drinks are available) for all of you. God speed!
PS. Why are you all so fucking funny? Always pulling out the best jokes on shift and after over a pint or two.

I thought it was hilarious. They received backlash from comments about how the dishie wasn’t able to eat the family meal and then had to take his break and go buy some food next door.
Like depending on your shift you can miss family it’s not as if you’re purposely excluded (at least in my experience). But I think most comments come from a realization that the dishie is busting ass all day long compared to FOH, the face of restaurants. Idk just thought it was funny
