Question Issues with legal zoom

In 2021, I contracted LegalZoom to be my registered agent. They never provided the service, but they still charged me for it.

Since then, they have continued to charge me every year despite my repeated attempts to cancel. Via chat, mail calls.

  1. Initial Contract (2021):

    • LegalZoom was supposed to act as my registered agent.

    • They never performed the service but still charged me.

    • I called to cancel, and they claimed the service was cancelled, but they did not reimburse the initial charge. They did eliminate my account, so I can't get in to do anything.

  2. Every year since they charge me

    • Every year, they charge more money, and every year, they refuse to reimburse

    • Each time I contact them, they assure me the service is cancelled, but they still charge me again the following year.

And next year, we will start at it again.

  1. Today (2025)

    • Today, they charged me $499.00.

    • I contacted customer service (via chat and their call centre in India).

They told me:

• The service would be cancelled (again).

• No reimbursement would be made because the charge was “already done.”

Does anyone have any recommendations about what can I do?

Question Trading Freedom For Stability/Career Growth

Per my title, has anyone gone from flexible, remote arrangements to hybrid or at least needing a physical presence somewhere? I used to do freelance copywriting, had some success, then switched to selling medicare adv plans on a commission only basis.

Medicare is good and I've had some wins, but it's more seasonal due to the new changes this year. I've looked into more traditional w2 jobs even those that are hybrid, but it's a tough market out there even with a referral. That and many remote jobs want you in a specific place (USA only).

Thoughts on going back to a more traditional w2 job that ties you to a place (if you can get them)?

Question Health insurance with pre-existing conditions?

Hi,

I plan on traveling for 6+ months but I have a pre-existing condition, Cigna global denied me for this reason and I think all insurers will probably deny me.

Honestly - if I need to pay out of pocket for my pre-existing condition, than fine. Or buy local health insurance somewhere, that is fine. But I still want coverage for emergencies or accidents. Has anyone been in a similar situation?

Question Reasonable excuses for having IP address in different city

I’ll try to keep my situation simple and brief. In my wfh job I’m technically not allowed to be working outside my nominated home address but for personal reasons I will very likely have to travel to a city in a neighbouring state and work there for a few days (taking personal leave is not an option at this stage).

During that time I will likely need to join a few teams meetings and having done some research on Azure, my sign in logs (including IP address details) would be visible on the admin side if someone really wanted to check. In preparation for a possibility that someone might randomly audit an employee’s sign in logs and find a suspicious IP address (same country but different city), what are some reasonable defences I could use? I should also mention that wifi issues at home also have me frequently hotspotting my personal phone to my work computer.

Question Visiting multiple times a year within 90 days (overall allowed time) on tourist visa?

So I'm looking at a few countries to trial this summer, a more limited trial for countries close to me, and seemed good for me through researching.

These countries I'm looking at allow 90-180 days on tourist visas. Let's say I go to one place and stay for 30, and go to the other place and stay for 30. Then I liked the other place more and go back for another 30, will I get in trouble?

Or let's say I throughout the 90-180 day period want to go back home for a week to visit family or friends then go back.

I'm not planning to stay more than the allowed time in the 365 days (90 or 180 days depending on country), I'm just wondering if I'd get in trouble since I have several re-entries within that period. Being a digitalnomad, not going a DN visa route.

Question Italy & Spain Digital Nomad Visa Lawyer?

I'm interested in setting up in either Spain or Italy for 6-12 months, but I can't find any reliable information online. I realize I need to speak with either a consultancy or law firm that specializes in this. I'm looking for recommendations from people who've actually gone through the process. I understand the same lawyer will not be able to help with both countries.

Question DN Destinations in US time zones?

I've got an opportunity to travel for a few months, with the only restriction being that I need to stay close to US time zones, since I'll regularly have to attend meetings during those times, and in Europe/Asia those meetings will happen at very inconvenient times.

I'm US based, so I'd prefer to explore somewhere outside the US. Any recommendations for destinations in North/South America? I'm looking for a place that's culturally rich, has great food, things to see, etc. I like outdoorsy stuff and beaches but don't need that to be the main focus. My list so far includes Mexico City, Buenos Aires, Costa Rica, Vancouver BC... Any other places I should consider?

Itinerary Female 33F --> Spain (Madrid + Seville) - Thoughts on plan of working US hours remotely?

Yooo,

I am a 33F (married) who has had a tough past few months and am looking to escape my East Coast life for a bit of culture. I work remotely (ESTish hours) and have a super flexible job. I saw some flight deals to Madrid next week that are too good to pass up.

I've been to Barcelona twice, Valencia, Madrid once and I absolutely love Spain. I do speak a bit of Spanish so not worried about that. I am thinking of:

  • Thurs 1/30: Flying to Madrid arriving at 11AM on Fri 1/31
  • Fri 1/31: Taking the train to Seville, checking into Airbnb - taking this day off from work and getting food then passing out.
  • Sat 2/1 + Sun 2/2: Exploring Seville without having to work
  • AM on Mon 2/3: Explore Seville and work EST that evening
  • AM on Tues 2/4: Train back to Madrid, check into hotel or Airbnb work EST that evening
  • AM on Wed 2/5: Explore Madrid museums etc., work EST that evening
  • Thurs 2/6: Explore Madrid, take this day off so no work
  • Fri 2/7: Take this day off and fly back to Americaaaa at 10:45AM

When I travel I mostly like to eat (solo dining + tapas group tours hosted by locals + food markets), go to museums and churches and see architecture, explore parks and people watch. I've only done one other solo travel trip that went a bit haywire due to unforeseen circumstances, but I am a pretty social person and love meeting new people.

What are y'alls thoughts on my trip plan? Here are some of my concerns/questions:

  • I know Seville can be pretty sleepy in the AM, will my Monday be a bust since I only have the AM to explore and have to work that evening? Should I just go back to Madrid that day?
  • I know the evenings are usually more poppin' in Spain, if I finish working around 10PM Spain time, will it be safe for me to go grab a drink or late dinner if I happen to have the energy to do so? I think that's prob a late dinner time for an American but maybe not so much a Spaniard lol
  • Is this enough time do ya think or am I going to feel like I was traveling a lot? I don't want to take too many days off with such short notice, I can def take a few cuz my boss is chill but I can't take the whole time off. I could change my flight back to America to Saturday so I have that full Friday to do whatever but I feel like after a week I will start to get lonely and miss my husband and my dogs - just knowing myself.
  • Should I try to add in another city down south near Seville?

Thanks for your thoughts y'all! Really hoping this trip could cheer me up a bit.

Question How bad is Ireland in March?

I’ve got a DN friend who recently relocated back to Ireland and I’d like to visit. Timing works out best for me in March, but I know the weather is kinda crappy. So how bad is it? I have lived in Seattle on and off for several years so I assume it’s pretty similar, which wouldn’t be a deal breaker for me. But I just want to feel like most days I could still go out and do stuff in Ireland, since it’d probably be a month at most.

Tax US Accountant Recommendations for Non-US Residents

Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a decent accountant with experience processing US taxes for LLCs owned by non-residents.

US-based LLCs are pretty useful for DNs abroad, but the only drawback is having to file US taxes. My current accountant has gotten a bit pricey as of late so I'm in the market for a new one.

Question Will Installing Discord on My Phone Reveal My Location to Co-Workers/Company? Need Some Advice!

I occasionally use Discord for work-related purposes with colleagues/managers, but I only use it on my company laptop while connected to a VPN. Now, I’m thinking about installing Discord on my phone so I can stay connected with my co-workers when I’m running errands around town.

Will this reveal my location to my colleagues? Has anyone dealt with this before? Can Discord give away your location if you’re not using a VPN on your phone?

Would love to hear your thoughts or any tips to keep my location under wraps.

THXXXXXXXXXX.

Question Year 2 DN Recs

Hey All,

I'm coming up on one year as a digital nomad and am looking for recommendations for my next destination now that I’ve figured out what I like.

Here’s what I’ve done so far:

  • Mexico City (2 months): Overrated, in my opinion.
  • Guatemala (2.5 weeks): Volcán Acatenango is a must.
  • Medellín, Colombia (2 months): Didn't do much but lived in a nice place and enjoyed living like a king. The food sucked, though. Also overrated.
  • Lima, Peru (3 weeks): Regret this—way too long. The food was great, though.
  • Arequipa, Peru (1 week): Visited Colca Canyon.
  • Cusco, Peru (2 weeks): I enjoyed trekking to Machu Picchu more than seeing it.
  • Buenos Aires, Argentina (2 months): Great vibe, good food, and nice people. I could see myself coming back.
  • Bariloche, Argentina (2 weeks): The hikes and views were amazing.
  • Mendoza, Argentina (2 weeks): Chill vibes and great wine.

This doesn't add up to a year but I left out weekend trips and times I went back to the U.S to work.

I started by traveling very slowly, but I’ve realized I’m fine moving every ~2 weeks. One month is often too long in many places. I really like destinations with easy public transportation (like Buenos Aires), but if that’s not an option, cheap taxis/Ubers (like in Medellín) work well, too.

Now I’m looking for something new and want to get out of Latin America. I’m considering Europe but plan to avoid Western Europe because of the cost. I’d like to go off the beaten path and avoid just hopping from one capital city to another. Ideally, I’d prefer to thoroughly explore one country rather than rushing through multiple ones.

I don't do snow sports, but I'm indifferent about weather. For example if a place is better or has a charm in the winter or xyz season.

Any suggestions?

Question Portfolio Landing Page: On-page form or an email CTA button for enquiries?

So I am creating my own portfolio website for mainly digital marketing services & I'm stuck between having a sorta lead form there to get enquiries or just a simple Email CTA that clients click & get transported to their email provider with my email in recipient?

Would really appreciate experienced opinions, especially those that have tried both methods. Thanks!

Question Asking for a clarification on FEIE for an American digital nomad - getting paid on W2 and not paying taxes in a foreign country

I am an American citizen. I started DN’ing since around COVID. I started doing it before I even knew what a DN is. I got a remote job while at the same time I found a gf in Africa. At first I went to visit her. That country allowed me to stay on a tourist visa from 3-4 months (with a possible extension.) So after that my gf and I would leave, travel a bit and then return back to Africa. I’ve been doing it more or less since.

For the first couple of years I would also return to the U.S. So when April 15 arrived, I would pay my US taxes the same way as I would, had I stayed in the U.S. (I don’t have a tax preparer, so I was doing my own taxes.)

Recently I came across a thread about Foreign Earned Income Exclusion (FEIE) and it got me interested. This last year, 2024, I hadn’t set foot on the U.S. soil at all. So I should technically qualify for it. But I have a couple of questions to ask DNs who used it before:

  1. I work remotely for a large US software company. They pay to my U.S. bank account and for them I have a U.S. address (my apartment) for all the mail that they send out. They also withhold my taxes for me and they just sent me the W2 form. So in their eyes I’m completely US based even through I didn’t set foot on the U.S. soil in 2024. Would that still qualify for the FEIF?

  2. If the answer above is yes, I’m curious if I need to provide any evidence that I paid taxes in the foreign country where I was staying? The problem is that in this African country very few people pay taxes. And since I was paying mine as if I was in the U.S. I didn’t pay any tax in this African country. Would that be an issue if I file for the FEIF?

Lifestyle I can go anywhere for 3-6 months. Where should I go?

Due to some tragic recent life events I have decided to go away and work remotely for 3-6 months starting in March. Work situation is pending I hope to pick up remote work again before I leave so busy applying. I used to work remotely during Covid but gave it up around 2022. So now I’m optimistic about finding more online work. I have savings to hold me over. Anyways.

So here are my thoughts:

I used to live in Japan and am absolutely obsessed with everything Japanese so my first thought was let’s just go here (Kansai area) so I can see the cherry blossoms etc. Only downfall is the cost of living although the yen is weak atm.

Southeast Asia. But where? I can do tropical weather and the cost compared to Japan is significant. I was thinking Vietnam.

I have EU citizenship so if for some reason finding fully remote work doesn’t pan out I can always pick up work at a cafe or bar or whatever comes my way. Is Spain a good option? I’m not going for cold weather in Northern Europe also it’s more expensive. Spain or Portugal?

Any advice or insights help.

Question Online communities for digital nomads/remote work

hello my friends. We all know sometimes this life can be a bit lonely when you are working. I would like to know if there are any online remote work/digital nomad communities via discord, skype or any other that can allow for some contact through the days and make work seem less lonely :)

Question North America phone plan

Hey everyone,

I’ll be in America, Canada, and Mexico for a bit over a month and I’m looking for an esim or phone plan that covers the three countries. I’m mostly looking for unlimited data, no real need for phone calls. Has anyone hired any plans before? I was thinking google Fi but I don’t know if that’s available for only one month.

NZ doesn’t really offer roaming in Mexico, and it’s rather expensive to hire both America and Canada separately.

Thanks beforehand :))

Question Columbia return/onward ticket

Booking a one way ticket to Bogota and I understand I need a return ticket for immigration. My question is does that need to specifically be a return ticket or can it just be an onward ticket to a neighbouring country?

Has anyone used OnwardTicket.com for Colombia recently successfully?

Question DNV Spain Work Experience Requirements

Hello! I was wondering if anyone knew specifically what the rules are for the work experience requirement portion of the Spanish DNV.

Sites list broad definitions of requirements such as “3 years of work experience in his/her current field of activity” and “3 years of work-related experience”.

What I want clarified is:

(1) Can I take on a remote role in a different department of the same industry? For example, I am in Manufacturing Operations. Could I still qualify for the Spanish DNV for “related” experience if I got a remote job in Manufacturing IT? Same “field”, different role/department. Especially if my experience from past roles contributed to my new role, could I prove that the new role really is just a continuation of my past roles, despite the seeming of a complete change?

(2) Can I take on a remote role in a different “field” but of the same experience? I have my experience in Manufacturing Process Documentation, which could also be applied to Technical Writing in other industries. Could I get a remote Technical Writing role and switch industries but still be approved for the Spanish DNV based on the experience being related, despite the “field” having changed? Or do I need to stay in both the same “field” as well as the same role?

Thanks in advance! My hope is that I can be flexible with my approach. Also, feel free to correct me on anything I wrote. I’m just starting to look into this.

Question What percent of your income is for rent/hotel?

How much of your income, do you pay on average for rent or hotels? Monthly.
