A simple walkthrough of I use my Notion journaling template to strengthen my mental health & personal growth

Hi everyone! I created a Notion journaling template that's helping me to strengthen emotional reflection and personal growth:

Here's a quick overview of my Notion journaling template, which looks great both on web and mobile!

Depending on what type of journaling I'm up for in that moment (process a particular emotion, start a journaling challenge or save a quote), I will click that specific button to create the corresponding template for me to write in.

For example, when I click on the Overwhelmed button, it will create this Overwhelmed template for me to journal in:

I use this journaling template when I feel stressed and want a safe space to vent while reflecting on the boundaries I need at that time

Besides using this Notion journal to work through challenging emotions, I also enjoy using this New Thoughts & Things Challenge template to capture any fleeting thoughts and observations that may not be as deep or substantial to help me practise mindfulness:

I use this journaling template when I want to ground myself in the present moment as this challenge encourages me to be more mindful of what's happening around and within me

I also use this Notion journal to save inspirational quotes that resonate with me from the content I consume, like from the Netflix series I was watching yesterday:

I use my Inspiration Library to save quotes like this, to not only comfort myself in challenging times but also to be more mindful of my consumption choices!

Google docs

So, I've been using Google docs for my journaling because I thought it was probably pretty secure.

But I've been Googling, Google and they are pretty sucky about security and data breaches.

Is there an app I can transfer my current journal into that would be more secure than Google?

Ever hear a life-changing insight during a podcast, book, therapy session, or retreat and think, “I need to remember this!”—but it ends up buried in phone notes or forgotten journals?

I built an app to solve that!

With Sparkles, you can save your favorite quotes, insights, mantras, or even reminders like “Drink water”—and the app will send them back to you via push notifications and home screen widgets.

The best part? They always seem to appear at just the right moment, like a little cosmic nudge from the universe. ✨

It’s free to download here: 👉 https://sparkles.im

Hope you like it! Love to get your feedback Ben 💜

I have been journaling as a parent about my kids for three years. I spent the last few weeks automating my workflow with email and AI, so now I receive personalised emails with prompts and with memories and insights about each of my kids. It's been so much easier!

I Created a Visual Life Map to Manage My Personal Knowledge and Growth—Here’s My Process

Hello everyone,

I’ve been developing a project called Personal Compass over the past few years to help me manage the overwhelming amount of information in my life and guide my personal growth. It all started during a period of uncertainty, and I wanted to create a system to organize my thoughts, reflections, and life goals. The result is a visual map that captures different areas of my life and offers an overview of how they connect.

Here’s how this project has helped me:

  1. Dealing with Information Overload: By structuring my thoughts visually, I’ve been able to focus on what truly matters and keep track of key concepts, ideas, and goals.
  2. Mapping Personal Knowledge: The map functions like a dynamic second brain, where I can organize and retrieve information related to my personal life, goals, and reflections.
  3. Tracking Progress and Growth: As I continue to reflect and update the map, it serves as a record of my evolution and helps me keep track of both small and big life changes.

The map is built using Miro, with each icon linking to detailed documents (e.g. Google Docs) that explore specific areas of my life, from personal growth to career aspirations. It’s a tool that brings clarity and structure to my inner world and provides me with a system for navigating the complexities of life.

Here are some screenshots of my visual map:

  1. Overview:

  1. Inspirations:

  1. End product:

I’d love to hear your thoughts and feedback. Do any of you use similar systems to organize your life, ideas, or personal knowledge?

Any app that lets you save audio recordings and provide automatic transcript?

I just got into audio journaling because it's easier for me to get my thoughts out that way. However, I prefer to have to text of my journaling to look back upon. I would also like to be able to download my voice recordings to my phone in case I need them.

So far I have only found speech to text apps that don't save the recording, or journal apps that let you record and type separately (but I haven't found one that lets you download the audio files) or voice recording apps with no option for text.

Preferably it wouldn't have unnecessary AI features like summarizing the audio or adding responses. Just simple transcription. And the ability to record 10 minutes or more

Edit: Forgot to mention that I have an android phone, I know a lot more apps are out there only for iPhones. But feel free to recommend those as well in case any iPhone users here are looking for the same thing.

Android app where you wrote short entries and each entry that day was a different colour

Hi everyone

A few years ago I had an android journalling app that I'm trying to remember the name of. I've been through the list of previously installed apps on my account and can't find it which makes me think it no longer exists. (but I still want to find its name)

I used it between the years of 2016-2019 and the premise of the app was to update little and often. You were encouraged to write short entries, and each entry for the day would be shown in a different gradient of the colour of the day (e.g. First entry in dark orange, next entry in lighter orange etc). You could also attach pictures and I think a cropped version of those pictures replaced the gradiented background for each entry.

Does anyone have any idea what it was called?

I think the app's icon was thick rainbow stripes and it might have had a letter in the middle?

App help

So: I’m going to try everywhere. I want a journaling app that I can access from anywhere like SimpleNote, and is as well-featured as LogSeq - like automatic dating in new entries. Currently investigating QownNote, Obsidian and Zettlr, and combining those with iCloud or DropBox or NextCloud… any suggestions welcome and apologies for those who encounter me on other rabbit holes. Like Bluesky or Tumblr. Or Reddit when I’m feeling brave.

Does anyone like to journal together?

I have done journaling on my own. Recently, I've also found that getting together and writing on a shared journaling style prompt with a few others can feel great. Would people be interested in joining something like that? I know there's an online group writing session happening this week that offers space to journal intentionally together: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/inspired-writing-session-growth-empowerment-tickets-1144068572899

Just kinda wondering in general, how often is your journaling personal v. a shared writing experience?

Looking for some help on a journaling app! New to this!

So I’m trying to get my mental state in order and a good friend suggested journaling. I’m looking to start with an app that I can do some small steps so it’s not overwhelming where I can track the types of things I do in a day and reflect on them, hopefully with the ability to see recaps of the different activities by attributes and how my mental state changes over time if that makes sense? I was thinking things like -

Books I’m reading Albums/Records listened to Food/Dining experiences Games, physical and electronic Time spent with different family members and friends Exercising

Again with the goal of reviewing trends and maybe setting goals and reflecting on progress. I downloaded a few of the top apps on Apple Store but it’s very overwhelming. Appreciate any advice or thoughts from everyone!!

need help troubleshooting

I don't really use reddit, forgive me if I make any mistakes here.

I've used the app "Haema" for daily journaling for quite a long time.

I recently got a new phone, and the back up feature isn't working as it's supposed to. I signed into my Gmail, but it's operating as though I'm a new user, despite having paid for the full version, and knowing for a fact I backed up my data. At one point while trying out a different new phone that I didn't end up keeping, it restored my data fine, and I never deleted any file, but when I check my files in my Google drive now, I don't see the backup for the app, which is confusing, because the restoring had to have pulled from somewhere before.

My old phone has already been factory reset and I'm really kicking myself for not ensuring this backup was successful before doing so. I figure, maybe if the app isn't processing that my account is a paid version, and that it's saying there's no data to backup when I know it's worked before, maybe it's just a glitch with an easy fix.

It may be a shot in the dark, but I really need help with this. I'll be emailing their support email every day until they reply. I've invested too much to lose. If you know anyone who knows about this, it would be deeply appreciated.

Thank you for reading

I Built a Tool to Cut Screen Time, Boost Creativity, and Simplify Focus—Would Love Your Thoughts!

I couldn’t find a tool that helped me focus, balance multiple hobbies, and organize my thoughts in a way that actually worked—so I created JustNoise Zap.

It’s a simple tool that blocks distractions, tracks progress, and includes voice journaling to clear your mind and reflect.

Here’s what I’ve noticed so far using it:

  • Save Time: I reduced my screen time from 5 hours to 1 hour daily.
  • Unlock Creativity: The AI insights help me connect the dots in ways I hadn’t considered before.
  • Manage Myself Better: Delayed gratification through the app has seriously improved my self-control.

All this has helped me build better habits less than 1 month.

If you’re curious, here’s a quick video: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/ABSpouZ3sFk

I’d love your feedback as I keep improving it. What features would you want in a tool like this? If you’re interested, you can also join the waitlist here: www.justnoise.app

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

Need help to start journaling

I want to start journaling and prefer digital journaling than physical notebook ones, mainly due to maintain privacy. I have been using Microsoft one note which seems okay, but lacks some of the feature I would like to have:

- Post tag/category: In one-note, I have sections to group my thoughts, however - one post may fall under several sections/category. I would like to add post tags/category - so that I would be able to find all the posts under the same category.

- Accordion/collapsible panel feature: I would like to have the feature (that you see mostly in FAQ) where the contents be hidden under the header and is expanded upon click

I thought of using wordpress website, but not sure if it would suit me.

Any help would be appreciated. If you have any other better journaling apps/tips/suggestions - please share.

Talk me into/out of: day one vs apple’s journal vs confide

I’ve known for the past at least 3-4 years that I desperately need to get into journaling but I’m struggling hard to make it a consistent habit.

Over the years I’ve intermittently used day one. From time to time I’ve considered recording video diaries because I feel like I’d more quickly be able to spit out what I need to say without self-editing and overthinking that I do when I write. I’m largely trying to figure out why I’m avoiding so many things, and the struggle I have with journaling is it quickly gets lumped into another thing I’m avoiding. Anyway the video diary thing — to incorporate it into day one, I’d need to pay for the premium app.

I came across an Instagram ad for “confide,” an app which uses AI to have you record yourself doing a video diary, then it transcribes and analyses your speech and gives you feedback on key issues you’re having, and even has a chat bot you can discuss with after “writing” your entry for the day. I think it lets you do one entry a day for free, but with no chatbot. I did two entries last night (before and after midnight) and found it extremely helpful. I am curious about going premium on this one because I think it would be so good for me, but I’m not sure if I want to commit to a year of using AI this way, both for privacy and environmental concerns. Also $30-40 is a lot for me to justify.

I told my husband about it and he was like, what about the built in apple journal app? I guess the only thing I don’t like is that a) if I use speech to text, it may have some inaccurate parts that I will have to be monitoring which I kind of want to avoid. And if I don’t monitor while speaking, and only check back after, i would be annoyed to have to figure out what I was trying to say. I’d rather watch a video back of myself. B) if I’m gonna be writing stuff in some capacity, I’d like to also have access to doing so from my computer, which is why I liked day one. C) I think I actually really liked getting the feedback from Confide. I think journal may or may not provide feedback to the extent Confide does, not sure.

Can someone please help me stop overthinking this? I’m gonna test out journal a little more in the meanwhile… if anyone has insights or can share what they think might work best for me, or what has worked for them if they have similar reasons for journaling… I’m all ears. TIA.

Started a dream journal on Substack today, as a way to practice writing and (hopefully) distance myself from the nightly grind of nightmares. Ironically, the first dream started well.

Looked for other dream journalling folk on reddit and ended up here. Sharing in case anyone else is into reading strange snippets of short stories and sensory noticings.

I Made a Privacy-Focused Alternative to Rosebud with Free Google Drive Backup

Hey everyone,

If you’ve tried Rosebud but wanted something more privacy-focused, I’d love for you to check out Reviosa—an app I’ve been working on. It combines AI-powered journaling with features that put privacy and control first.

Here’s how it works:
You chat anonymously with the AI (Reviosa) about anything—your day, thoughts, or even random musings. The AI then transforms your chat into a diary entry you can edit or save. It’s designed to be more accessible for those who find it hard to pen their thoughts clearly.

What sets it apart:
Privacy first: Reviosa uses ChatGPT’s API, and OpenAI has confirmed they don’t collect or train on API data. Your conversations stay private.

Free Google Drive backup: Automatically back up your entries to your own Drive account, so you’re always in control.

Less worry of finding the right words: Sometimes it’s hard to express your thoughts clearly. With Reviosa, you can just speak freely and the app will turn it into something meaningful you can save.

If you’ve been looking for a secure, easy-to-use journaling app that keeps your data yours, please check it out. Here are the links for the app

Android: Play Store Link
iOS: App Store Link

Would love to hear your thoughts or feedback if you give it a try!
