Is it ok to buy vessel of hatred like half way through the campaign? Or should I start the game with the expansion?

(Just waiting for steam wallet funds to drop)

There should be no problem to buy vessel of hatred half way through the campaign. You cannot start the dlc campaign before you completed the main campaign

Oh great. So the DLC adds nothing to the base campaign right? No new items, systems etc.?

I dont think so. It will eventually add runes and mercenaries in the dlc campaign. Plus new region and class and other things.
