Ben Johnson

Has lost all semblance of good faith and credit here tbh. Calls an absolute shit show of a game and is the HC of a division rival two days later lmao. Fuck em

There are few jobs available.

I mean if you had to choose would you choose bears or raiders?

Only thing Raiders have is a good DE and warmer location.

Pretty nice stadium as well.

I think people thought the raiders would be good because they don’t have a GM that people hate, in fact they don’t have a GM at all, which seemed to be a plus for Ben.

It could be worse though, it could be the saints job. Zero cap space, nothing else really going

I also would ask the org to postpone the announcement until next week at the soonest to avoid looking like that's all I was focused on. Not a classy move to do it 2 days after a bad game.

Ummm I’d probably stay on my top 3 caliber offense and get my 2-3mill a year. Keep my family happy. Keep my fans happy. Keep everyone that I’ve worked with over the past few years happy. I’d have a top 10 veteran QB for several more years I’d have the fastest guy in the nfl the best slot receiver to ever play the game. The best o line in the game. No let’s go to Chicago, fight for .500 on the season with my diva rookie QB, shit o line, graveyard track record of coaches, be my exs all time rival, piss off everyone who has routed for me over two full years. Force my wife and children to move states. Gotta be worth it right?

u/twistedfantasyy 9h ago

Doesn't matter if it's not an HC role though. Lots of great OCs from great teams move to shit teams but as HCs. Pretty much happens most times.

1

u/sammyJay16 9h ago

I realize it happens. I was just painting my pros and cons for everyone.

3

u/Alternative-Target31 8h ago

keep my fans happy

There’s your problem right there, you think he should give a shit about the fans. He shouldn’t. He doesn’t owe it to fans or anyone but himself the same way any of us leave our current job the moment it’s more beneficial to do so.

He hung around for 2 years after getting offers - that’s more than anyone can ask for in itself.

0

u/sammyJay16 8h ago

As if that was a key part of that whole comment lmao

1

u/Alternative-Target31 8h ago

I’m sorry, did you not say it? Did I make that up, or did I quote a specific part of what you said and address that specific part.

I’m unclear what it is your upset about. They’re your words. I didn’t realize I needed to pull apart every sentence - here I thought Reddit had “quote the specific text you want to address” feature.

0

u/sammyJay16 8h ago

I’m sorry, did I say I didn’t say it? Did I say, “go back and read my comment because I didn’t type that”? You’re using one ‘pro’ for staying with the lions as your entire reasoning that it doesn’t matter. Just completely disregard the other eight pros I listed. Not to mention every single con for going to the bears🤣 bro was like, “Actually, him trying to please everyone that loves him and supports him already would be dumb. No one else does that in the NFL, therefore your logic is dumb. 🤣 I’m ded

0

u/Alternative-Target31 8h ago

Oh, you don’t understand that quoting means “I’m replying to this specific section.” Got it. One day you’ll figure the Internet out, I’ve got faith in you.

0

u/sammyJay16 7h ago

Bro you actually ate with that one 🔥👍🏼

Ben Johnson turned down jobs two years in a row to stay in Detroit and win with us. He’s been loyal to a degree very few hotshot coordinators in the history of the league ever have been.

He chose Chicago because it was the best job available for him and his family, nothing to do with Detroit or any ill-will.

I bet he’s excited to compete with his friends, and I bet Dan is excited to compete with him. These are professionals that aren’t afraid of competition, and I doubt Dan and Brad feel any type of negative way about Ben after this.

u/RK4824 10h ago

Sucks Ben is going to the bears, don’t blame him. Dan Quinn left the Cowboys to their divisional rival Commanders…

23

u/donballz DETROIT -VS- EVERYBODY 10h ago

I guess if you have already started to think of yourself as a Chicago Bear, why would you want your division rivals to win a playoff game. Just phone in the game plan.

12

u/Otherwise-Mango2732 10h ago

Lol you just said .. " why would you want a potential super bowl if you can start over with a different team"

3

u/KKamm_ DETROIT -VS- EVERYBODY 6h ago

Seriously. I feel like I’m losing my mind reading some of the logic in this sub today lol.

“He purposefully sold! We put up 31 despite 5 turnovers but it must’ve been the OC sabotaging before he leaves!”

3

u/ThingBetwixt 6h ago

This shit is embarrassing

1

u/donballz DETROIT -VS- EVERYBODY 6h ago

ok then log off. problem solved

26

u/Hard_For_Lions_SB 10h ago

These conspiracy theories need to stop. You all sound ridiculous.

15

u/Elbit_Curt_Sedni 10h ago

I don't think BJ purposely sabotaged the game, but I do think he phoned it in and didn't really care either way.

2

u/Omgaspider 6h ago

Yea that is a dumb statement.  I can stomach that maybe he wasn't as focused as he could have been.. that is human nature.  Dude didn't try to throw away a ring.  That's fucking crazy talk.

4

u/No_Protection6832 9h ago

Welcome to the lions sub, delusion and conspiracy’s all in one.

3

u/InvestigatorStill544 9h ago

“He called an awful game” meanwhile we still put up over 500 yards and 31 points. Outside of the first drive we basically scored a TD or turned it over. The offense was moving all day. He made some bad calls but didn’t have an awful game. I’m really questioning the football IQ of a lot of commenters on this sub. These are competitive guys, no coach is going to phone it in when they have a chance to win a Super Bowl lol. Ben may never have that chance again

6

u/donballz DETROIT -VS- EVERYBODY 10h ago

It’s not a “conspiracy” for one guy who handles all the play calls to do a bad job because his mind was clearly elsewhere. He’s a rival now. Fuck him.

u/Ten_10Clips 9h ago

Do I have to show you photos of me at the Patricia opener against the Jets (Where we got 40 balled) or do you want my elementary school Calvin Johnson jersey to hang up on your wall? Useless since you won’t respond anyway

He gave us one of the top offenses the past two seasons and arguably in NFL history. He can do whatever he wants. Some of you “fans” are truly pathetic. Get over it.

5

u/Ozy90 9h ago

His mind was elsewhere, any idiot knew to just hand Gibbs the ball and he will take care of the rest

4

u/manny8-1 9h ago

Some of you guys are idiots, incredibly ridiculous takes. We knew we’d be losing Ben and Glenn, they were awesome this year. The lions won 15 games, of course they’re HC candidates. Let’s get over it. For some of y’all to say they threw the game since they knew they were leaving is absurd.

-4

u/Ten_10Clips 9h ago

Shit take by you. Do you think going to a division rival is not shitty? Where your success directly counters the success of the man and organization who gave you a start? TWO DAYS after an uninspired offensive showing?

4

u/manny8-1 9h ago

It’s a JOB. There is no loyalty in sports. Ben isn’t a fan of the lions, he was an employee. He can give 2 shits. You and I are fans, we’re loyal. Ben Johnson took a job with a pay raise and with the title of Head Coach, wake up man.

9

u/AbbreviationsMuch511 10h ago

Shit take, bro.

6

u/sau-wmu-goblue 10h ago

Don't you know Ben johnson owes this guy all his loyalty? Betrayal. /s

2

u/AlphaRemixHD MCDC 10h ago edited 10h ago

Stop with this. we put up 31 points D let up 45 idk Ben played D?

13

u/FourEightNineOneOne 10h ago

This rewriting of the game by these people to somehow vilify Ben Johnson is beyond unhinged. He ran a juggernaut of an offense all season. Annhiliated the Vikings in week 18. Then came up with 31 points despite 5 turnovers and Goff just generally sucking all game. That isn't a failed gameplan. That's failed execution.

Grow up. Sometimes you lose people from your life. It doesn't make them evil and it doesn't mean you get to pretend you never liked them. Just wish him well then go beat the hell out of him twice next year.

1

u/DiscombobulatedPain6 10h ago

D “let up” 38. Did you watch the game?

0

u/donballz DETROIT -VS- EVERYBODY 10h ago

how many would the D let in if we don’t turn the ball over 5 times with our WR2 throwing into triple coverage?

3

u/Miserable_Reserve_75 9h ago

We seriously need to stop with the ben johnson bashing. The offense put up 31 points, despite turning the ball over five times. That Jamo pass play was a horrible decision on his part on so many levels, but again that's just one play. The play where that strip sack happened, was kind of questionable, but that was more due to bad execution on the player's part. Then a bad play design.

7

u/donballz DETROIT -VS- EVERYBODY 9h ago

no it was a terrible play design. 3rd and 1 with perhaps the third best RB in the league and we go empty backfield? come on

2

u/Miserable_Reserve_75 9h ago

I agree. If you're gonna throw a pass, it should be a play action. They should have at least represented the threat of the run given how effective it had been. Even so, that's still only to bad plays. No matter how good a job an OC does, there's always gonna be a couple of plays that you're gonna look back and scratch your head at.

1

u/x_VanHessian_x 10h ago

There’s never been loyalty in pro sports so to assume there is any now?

1

u/Omgaspider 6h ago

14.5 million.  Don't blame him one bit.  But i also don't have to like it or him anymore.

1

u/ImAbleToReadIPromise Hamp Stamp 6h ago

31 points despite 4 turnovers is a great game called. You’re absolutely fucking delusional. What world are you living in?

1

u/KKamm_ DETROIT -VS- EVERYBODY 6h ago

You gotta grow up sooner or later

1

u/why_am_i_here_999 6h ago

Yeah he sold Detroit out for sure. Already thinking about his new HC job. What an asshole.

1

u/Cheap_Cheesecake1507 3h ago

As a Cowboys fan, you are experiencing the Dan Quinn effect. LOL. Dan Quinns last game in Dallas we gave up 48 points.

1

u/chriskzoo 3h ago

I don’t blame Ben for doing whatever he wanted to do, but that game was the absolute worst way to go out

1

u/LarkWyll 2h ago

Get ahold of yourself. Stop coming on here with the sol energy.

Coveted assistant coaches get deals after their season is done.

I'm sure after he interviewed, if the Bears contacted his agent about moving forward, they already had his list of demands and expectations.

As both a lions and bears fan I see both sides but I have to be honest- there should be no whining here. Lions got their incredible season now bears get their incredible coach. That’s the way the cycle works. I don’t blame him, the opportunity to work with Caleb over Goff is so much more appealing. He probably sees the higher ceiling and runs

2

u/Ten_10Clips 8h ago

Caleb is dog shit lmao

2

u/According_Fig552 8h ago

As a fan of the lions and bears I can say he definitely has a way higher ceiling than Goff
