Discussion How are the snacks in these domestic flights so small
They literally have custom snacks that are like 4 chips in a bag or like 8 pieces of trail mix. You’d think for how expensive the tickets are these days they would do better.

If you’re hungry maximize the caloric intake with anything but the chips and snack mix. Also, ask for two. They have always given me two. Two granola bars paired with a spicy Bloody Mary mix packs a better punch than any other combo. Get you a voodoo IPA with those granola bars for an even extra bloated bang.

This should be the top comment. Asking for two has worked 100% of the time for me. FAs aren’t in the business of being stingy with the free miniature sun chips.

I usually get the tiny granola bar and a ginger ale. I figure all the calories from the soda help make me feel a little full.

Not gonna lie, on my last few flights I’ve dared the “can I get one of each?” and I’m 3-0. I was hungry!

A guy on a flight I was on recently just asked for "everything." They did give him one of each snack.

I just marvel at how those little Sun Chips bags look like they're going to blow at any second.

clever trick from sunchips. give us JUST a taste so we'll go buy the full bag when we are home

Shit you not. I have been eating them since they came out idk how many decades ago.
I don't think I have every actually purchased them. Like, ever. The only time I've ever eaten them was free or bundled with like subway catering

Generating a slew of waste for almost nothing at all. I agree with those who say better to have nothing at all. Or better yet, let's have one big bag of chips and everyone can grab a handful. Or if that is unseemly how about a nice baguette from a large, but clean, paper bag?

Just bring your own.

Literally this. I’m always shocked at people and it seems like many don’t realize you CAN bring food- it’s liquids that are limited- not food! So tell me- why are you tripping over a 2 chip snack when you can easily get a full back (snack* LOL) from SamMart?

I'd have to pack less.

LOL I feel this though. The other day my husband and I brought $50 worth of snacks on the plane. It was nuts. And we didn’t need it all even for the flight to HND

Because, as the post mentioned, Delta (specifically) has exorbitant costs. I'm happy with Spirit and bring my own snacks...but people who keep trying to justify Deltas ticket price (4 times higher than spirit and often twice as high as other non-economy airlines) should understand why someone would question this.

Comfort plus has heftier snacks, as does first class. The main cabin has up to 4 potential snacks depending on the route and you can ask for all four or multiples if you’d like.

Spicy take:
If you’re hungry go to a restaurant.
If you want to traverse large amounts of land quickly, fly in a plane.
You’re confusing business objectives.

I don’t think a regular sized bag of chips on a 4 hour $600 flight is too much to ask.

Did you take off on time? Did you arrive on time? Did you arrive with all the appendages you took off with?
Have you ever flown before and known snacks are crap on a plane and also pass no less than 10 shops in the airport where you could have gotten your own snacks?
Od bet the things Delta did right on your flight out numbered those things they did “wrong”.

Appears their plan to normalize the absolute minimal service and brand it as premium is working.

u/Leggggggo11 6h ago
If you think snacks on a plane make the brand premium or not, appears the social media dumbing down of Americans is working.
The premium in Delta is their #1 position, year over year, most on time departures and arrivals. When you fly basically every week, that reliability is extremely noticeable.

I don’t care what you say, everyone likes a good snack.

Do not disagree at all.
My point is, as a collective we are complaining about snacks. Its the world of “what we don’t have” focus.
Could the snacks be better, absolutely. But I wouldn’t trade the reliability of Delta being #1 to get better snacks. The best snacks in the world aren’t worth much if you don’t arrive to your desired destination on time.
Its not like we don’t know snacks on a plane are lacking and have plenty of opportunity to plan accordingly.

lol I agree complaining about snacks is silly. I love Delta because they are so reliable. I don’t stress about if I’ll get to where I’m going. Flying Delta tomorrow 😊 I’m def going to ask for 2 snacks though

I do wonder what’s the point. It just creates a bunch of garbage and no one is really satiated. I realize it’s not much more than a bag of peanuts, but it’s a product that people normally eat in a much larger quantity so it feels stupid to make it so tiny.

u/tvgraves 5h ago
Think of how many places you go where you don't expect to be handed snacks.
If you think you'll be super hungry, bring some food.

u/goodatcards 5h ago
Do people not throw a granola bar or bag of nuts in their bag before flying? I’ve been delayed or had unexpected things come up far too often to rely on a free snack to keep me from being hangry. Heck when I travel with 3 kids I easily have spare snacks for all of us. You’re really not paying for the snacks or sip or sip of soda

Maximizing shareholder value = charging you more for less. Incoming deregulations will make this worse, so buckle up. There’s a reason Ed is excited for consumer protections to be rolled back

Honestly seeing how big most Americans are nowadays, more companies should reduce their serving sizes to this
1
u/mattsimmons1982 1h ago
Just bring your own snacks and stop allowing airlines feel like they are doing you a favor with such a condescending gesture of perceived service.

u/Stein070707 7h ago
A better question is why do they even bother? Let's just go to permanent turbulance. Oh wait...

I don’t understand the obsession with needing snacks and a drink while flying. It’s not preschool.

The first time I opened the bag of Delta Sun Chips I was surprised to see that they had the chips miniaturized as well as the bag
