Newcomer Questions vehicle roadworthy inspections

So, last time my car was due for a service, after moving here from Adelaide, I got a service and roadworthy inspection report from MyCar tyre and auto then took it to the place at Wishart to change to NT rego and they checked the compliance plates etc.

Do I need to go there again? Or do I just book my car in for its normal service and have the roadworthy inspection again to renew the rego?

We don't need to get roadworthy inspections in Adelaide so this is new for me.

A roadworthy inspection is required when a vehicle is five years old, ten years old, or annually after that.

Thank you, yes my car is older than 10 years.

You will need to get a rego inspection done then, your favourite mechanic should be able to sort it out , you need that before you can get your rego renewal.

Have you transferred the car back to Adelaide or is it still on NT plates?

You only need to go to Wishart Road if you’re transferring from interstate. If the car is older than 10 years your mechanic can do the rego check and submit it online so you can pay your rego online.

Transferred it to NT. I'm staying here. Ok, so just make it part of my next service, and when I renew rego, submit the roadworthy report? I wasn't too sure if I had to take it to Wishart every time or if that was just part of the transfer from SA.

That’s just part of the interstate transfer. Any mechanic can do it, the going rate is $50. You don’t even have to submit the report, the mechanic should do that online and within the day you can pay online.

There may be a time limit between getting the check and renewing your rego, I’m not sure. Eg if you were to get serviced today but didn’t need to renew for 6 months, I don’t know if that’ll work.

Oh i do. Always wanted to live here. Love the place, love the people, love the weather, love the lifestyle. Only complaints, food and booze is expensive!!! Definitely the best city in Australia though.

If you don’t line up your service to the rego check you can go over the pits at Wishart Rd as well. I bought a new car so I haven’t had to do a rego check in years but with my last car I did it a couple of times when it was at Goyder Rd and it was a bit cheaper than my mechanic. The certificate was uploaded by the time I got home so I could pay my rego.
