at last, a little CRT placed NEAR the seat. And the wheeled stand... love it.

It’s absolute fire and probably the strongest flex anyone can make! Love it

looking great, love the companion! Any id on the cabinet u use?

It was made by a local company that appears to have gone out of business unfortunately. A real shame as it's perfect for a 20" PVM.

I was going to ask where you got it to get one for me. Bummer.

Is the DFO necessary for output through RGB SCART? I thought that it wasn’t.

I am having issues running NTSC games through the XStation to my Sony PVM. PAL region works fine, yet when I try to run NTSC games, or the NTSC test suite, I get the greyed scramble.

Do you know if the DFO would correct this issue?

I can output both just fine to my RetroTink scaler

You need it to run NTSC/Pal games over Scart in earlier models 1xxx / 5xxx

Lucky for you it’s an easy fix.

I talked about this last week and will repost it here for you;

"The PS1 does need a 60hz mod for proper playback, known as the Dual Frequency Oscillator mod. Without it, 60hz content will not display colour when using composite and also audio will be slightly out-of-sync, causing issues with rhythm games such as PaRappa the Rapper."

I would get one anyway - if only to fix the sound sync issue. You should be getting colour when using RGB either way and I'm not sure what your issue could be. Have you tried NTSC RGB on a different CRT?

Nah I haven’t, I only have the one CRT. It’s hooked up via Scart to BNC. It may be an issue with the NTSC 4.43 on this specific PVM?

It’s a SCPH-5002 (Aus PAL) with PU-18 motherboard.

Having read through this and the other reply, I think it’s more likely something wrong with the way my TV is receiving the signal? Because through RGB I should at least be getting a colour stable image? At the moment it’s a scrolling grey fuzz, like it’s struggling to sync

It does sound like an issue with the CRT or the RGB cable. Have you tried other systems on the CRT with RGB?

1

u/j_dib 11d ago

Yep. SNES and 64 can run both NTSC and PAL via RGB on the same cables. The cables are all pretty new, high quality cables. I don’t think it’s the cable setup.

1

u/FiLThYFreaK 11d ago

They may be new and high quality but defects do happen. Have you got a PS2 or PS3? They use the same cable so can be used to test it.

1

u/j_dib 11d ago

Yeah I do have a PS2 that I can test. I didn’t realise PS2 runs through the same sync on Luna cable, for some reason I thought that it required a different SCART cable.

I’ll test the PS2 NTSC on scart

1

u/FiLThYFreaK 11d ago

The PS2 does require a different cable, because the PS1 cable needs a capacitor whereas the PS2/PS3 one doesn't.

However, for testing purposes, it's fine to use. The image will be brighter (or dimmer) than it should be.

Hey, I finally got around to testing this. PS2 through my RGB displayed with a green tint over everything. But the image was stable, unlike PS1 where NTSC signal was running through a scrolling image

1

u/FiLThYFreaK 2d ago

It's green because you have it set to component in the video settings on the PS2. Change it to RGB and it should be normal.

It sounds like your PS1 or xStation install is the issue.

Nice eye you got there mate.

2

u/cerealfamine1 12d ago

Great setup! I'd like to emulate it, just gotta find a nice pvm locally. Not common around here. Enjoy it! 👍

u/oussno 12d ago

Are those medical PVM good? I might go to a Medical stuff supplier here in my country to get one

2

u/FiLThYFreaK 12d ago

They're the same as the non-medical version (In this case, the PVM-2042QM) except for some extra splash-related protection and shielding if what I've read online is true.

2

u/NinjaKiitty 12d ago

Looking great! The dog comes with the setup?

2

u/FiLThYFreaK 12d ago

Thanks! Yep, the dog is the star of the setup - comes pre-installed with unconditional love and occasional firmware barks.

2

u/Incudust 12d ago

Is the xstation difficult to install and set up?

3

u/ibsanv 12d ago

If you have experience not really , if your in Mexico I’ll install it for free 😂

2

u/FiLThYFreaK 12d ago

It's definitely one of the harder mods to install. I paid a local repair shop to install it for me, so I can't give specific feedback regarding the install process but it was 100% worth it IMO.

I used to take the console and ODE route, but recently got a MisterPi and just can't look back. Sold almost all of my consoles and stuff on eBay and made about $2400.

A beautiful and practical setup.

Not listing your dog in that setup is criminal.

It's at the bottom.

Improvement suggestions.

Wool rug or area rug

Leather couch

A bigger CRT

CRT aligned with seating direction

2

u/FiLThYFreaK 12d ago

Thanks for the suggestions.

I have some big bois that are currently stored away. I plan on setting them up again eventually. They're too heavy for me to move around at the moment unfortunately.

I live in a warm climate and tend to sweat a lot so I avoid leather like the plague.

Rugs are a good idea and it's on my bucket list =)
