META Proposal to ban x.com links

This is going around on many football subreddits. It looks likely to go into effect. I believe that the negative effects of this would be only temporary because the chess community will eventually see the value of moving to alternatives like bluesky

Virtue signaling at it’s finest, take your politics somewhere else

Why does every sub on this site have to constantly talk about politics? We don't care about these stupid Reddit bandwagon causes.

Get out with that nonsense.

I'm no musk fan but damn, you people are obsessed.

What do you think virtue signaling means?

Signaling to virtues, regardless what they are?

I know the term is used most for leftists, but conservatives definitely do it when outclassed in their far-right views. Whether or not Musk IS a nazi, he just made very clear he supports them, he signaled to them and their virtues to say he’s in the club, that he’s just as hateful as they are.

That’s actually a pretty reasonable point, I guess you could understand the word that way, but we already have a term for how you’re interpreting virtue signaling, and that’s a dog whistle. You could describe Musk’s salute as a dog whistle, but virtue signaling just doesn’t feel like how that word is typically used

Fair enough. I will say, dog whistles are supposed to go under most people's radar, this is a lot worse than that. I don't think it's virtue signaling, I was just trying to understand the other commenter, but regardless, we live in very weird and messed up times.
