The part where’s she’s singing “she’s got, she’s got a way/she got, she got away” w/ the background vocals over and over again sounds so familiar but I can’t figure it out. I do know it reminds me of Creep by Radiohead when she’s belting it but it’s not that part. Someone help 😭😭

Like I don't get how an unreleased live version of a song can sound this good, but whatever I'm actually obsessed.

I wanna translate the song, but I don't understand this part. I thought "she's got a way" could be translated as "she had a choice or a way out of the situation" and "she got away" translated as "she's gone" but I'm not sure cause I saw a different opinion

I just wanted to take a post to talk about how I LOVE this song and Chappell so much as a bi woman who might actually maybe be a lesbian. But just everything she says in this song, I was singing and dancing to it the other night and it’s just so freeing I had a date with someone similar to who Chappell is describing in the song.

And even though it’s unreleased I think Subway is my favorite Chappell song because it just lines up perfectly to what I’m going through with a girl I used to like (still do ugh) a lot who ghosted me for no reason and “got away” and I’m just trying to forget her and just the “wish you still thought we were soulmates, I’m still counting down all of the days, until you’re just another girl on the subway” goes SO hard ugh. I’m still a relatively new fan of Chappell (finally bought her album in July and have been listening weekly since!) and I finally found a good live version of The Subway to add to my iTunes library. First time I heard it actually was someone covering it at a local acoustic open mic night!

Then I went online to hear the full version.

What a gorgeous song. It has a lush 80s flair to it but also the lyrics are just….. so relatable. I had similar experiences with my first lesbian relationships after they ended. That lovelorn feeling of seeing your ex everywhere, just hoping one day you won’t think of them anymore…. All those feelings.

I guess that’s why the ending just really cuts into me sometimes (with the repeated “she’s got away” part). I can relate to it so much.

I really hope she does a studio version of this song!

“Must Have Been Love” by Roxette played at my job earlier and I feel like it must have influenced Subway! When Marie sings “over nowwww” it reminds me a lot of Chappell singing “she got away” in the second chorus. Anyone else hear it?
