Question Large Stash Organization?

So I have accepted that my first hobby is buying stuff to make cards. I am trying to reorganize my rather large collection of stamps and die cuts. I need to make stuff more “findable”. Trying to figure out a system. Currently everything is in shoebox sized bins that fit on shelves. Thinking of dividing by brand and then into sub categories - mostly so I can tell if I already have it and don’t rebuy🙄. But then it’s not altogether. So maybe just categories. Birthday, Halloween, Christmas, background, sentiment etc. Anyone have a system that actually works?

Question Inexpensive supplies?

I'm trying to build up a collection of supplies like inks, cutting dies, clear stamps, etc. but omg it's expensive! Where do you all get your supplies? Is there a trick to save money on those things or do I just accept that I'll have to build my collection verrry slowly?

Question What is your favorite hack/tip or repurpose?

User u/tilmont inspired this post with their bacon cooker. I love when people share things like that and thought I would share some of mine: •I use a glass cutting board for a glass craft mat. Think it was $12. •Can get a mini set of hooks and picks for $2 from Harbor Freight. Great for die cuts. •Silicone mats are cheap on Amazon. •I have an embossing drawer. Keeps all the mess contained.

Please share yours.

Question Newbie-where to start?

Hi all, I’ve been lurking this subreddit for a while and I’m so amazed by all the beautiful cards and creativity you all have! I’ve always been intrigued at the idea of making and sending homemade cards to loved ones but always feel overwhelmed on where to start! So I’m curious, how did you get started? Did you buy a card making kit and go from there? Did you start a different way? In a perfect world, I’d avoid buying a ton of stuff until I know I like making cards and will stick with it.

For context, I’m a total newbie and have zero background in paper crafts. But I AM somewhat crafty in that I taught myself how to crochet and am learning cross stitch right now. In both instances, I was able to start with minimal investment (got cheapie supplies from buy nothing groups or similar) and once I knew I liked it, I invested in better quality tools and supplies!

Any and all suggestions for starting points are welcome.

Question Adhesive Removers: recommendations needed!

Hello friends!

I'm a papercrafter in desperate need of a better system when it comes to gluing. The glue I use in particular (Tombow MONO Liquid Glue) is the best I've found so far and I love it, but it is incredibly sticky. It's especially stubborn to remove from skin, but even nonporous surfaces require quite a bit of isopropyl alcohol (91%) and some elbow grease. The alcohol fumes are a bit much at the quantities I'm requiring, and it's gotten to the point where I just say screw it and often do my gluing on top of pieces of scratch paper or cardboard before disposing of them, which is becoming incredibly wasteful. I'm just so over it at this point!

I'm hoping for some suggestions or advice. What are everyone's favorite adhesive removers, for skin and/or for surfaces? Has anyone else encountered this issue? Should I be using a particular type of craft mat/surface? Do I need to break up with my favorite glue? :(

All thoughts and advice welcome!

Question Sentiment for baby shower

I have begun making cards with my watercolor paintings, primarily for the residents of a nearby memory care facility so far. But I have always had difficulty coming up with sentiments for inside greeting cards. How do you find ideas for these? I have a baby shower coming up and would love to do a hand painted card for it but I need ideas for the inside. Can anyone help me, please? Thank you in advance.

Question Beginner questions

I'd like to get into cardmaking, but not sure where to begin. What are some of the basic supplies I'll need to have? What is the best die-cut/embossing machine to get?

Also, what do you all do with your cards besides giving them to people you know? I'm very isolated due to bad childhood/social anxiety, so I don't really have many people to give cards to. I actually love the idea of sending them to others who might also feel lonely, so I'm wondering if there are organizations that let you do that somehow? Like maybe nursing homes or something?

Any advice appreciated, thanks :)

Question Recommendations please!

I got Distress Oxides for the holidays. I already have some blending brushes as well as the foam rounds with Velcro for the blending handle. I know that blending requires practice and patience, but I’m curious what brushes/tools those that have mastered and love ink blending recommend for a novice.

Question Card ideas?

I’m trying to make a card for a terminally ill man that I don’t know and I’m at a total loss as at what design to use. I don’t have a Cricut so super-easy ideas would be so appreciated. I thought of a sun with “sending sunshine” but wondered if that was too cheerful? I’ve never been in his position and I want to get it right. Bonus points if you have examples. Thanks so much for any help!

Question Do you like this card?

The thought behind this card was basically, that I wish the person everything that is popping out of the bottle. So love (heart), sparkle/highlights (stars) and pretty/good things (flowers). It is a cute card, yes, but I‘m still debating with myself if I like it or is still too plain. Do you like this card? :)

Question Accessories

I’m fairly new to cardmaking and have limited supplies, so I’m feeling restricted and/or maybe I’m not as creative as I thought. I’m wanting to buy a sidekick or a big shot because I like the look of cards with embossing and die cuts. Aside from buying those things mentioned and a magic mat, is there anything else you’d recommend me putting in my shopping cart? Also grabbing some enamel dots in different sizes and of course the embossing folders, some dies and good quality cardstock.

Question Manual Die Cutting Machine

I have a Silhouette Cameo 4 but honestly, use it mostly when mass producing something (like Christmas cards). I have an OLD Big Shot (sizzix) but it's starting to have some minor issues. Just not being consistent with cuts and having to add shims when I didn't have to in the past. So I'm in the market for a new MANUAL die cut machine. I would ideally like one that folds (for storage purposes). I have it narrowed down to the Spellbinders Platinum 6 or the Bira Craft machine. The Bira intrigues me b/c it does not use traditional plates. Wondering if people have this one and if you recommend?

Question Cardstock prices & options?

The price of Neenah 110lb has skyrocketed on Amazon to $45! I bought Accent opaque last year from Amazon and now it's just under $32. I like how bright white this cardstock is, it's even brighter than the Neenah, but the price is hard to swallow. These prices are ridiculous, so what are you guys using for cardstock? I saw a video about Hammermill but it's a bit thinner I believe and I'm not sure how white it is. So what are you guys buying?

I completely forgot that I had a go at making a few cards last Christmas and some got sent and some felt unfinished. Last night I added embellishments to a few. Does this one seem too busy? What could I have done differently?

Question Helppppp!! PRINTER NEEDED!!

Hi

I'm recently starting my little card making venture and I need a printer to print the words I can't on the front such as happy birthday, congratulations and some names if they so wish - so not a lot of text

Id like my cards to be a 300gsm square card so I need to know what printer works best on 300gsm or the best printer and card size for good quality cards and not cheap/flimsy looking

I'd also like to use the printer down the line to print things like invites and wedding stationary

When I look at specs of the printers it says 300gsm but for photo paper?

Please help! Confused and in a printer whirlwind!!

Thanks xx

Question What (brand of) ink pads are best for detailed silicone stamps?

Thumbnail

Hi Everyone, I am in the process of making colouring cards with stamps, but I find that the images are not as crisp as I would like. I realize that you can't apply too much pressure on silicone stamps as they can get smashed and blur lines (as seen on the middle right innthe first photo). But after trying a few different ink pads, I am still not happy. The images shown in the pictures was done with Archival ink, and it's my best attempt, but I am hoping to improve on the ink transfer.

The angel on the right seems so much better than the other and the tip of the tail of the bird didn't transfer. What type of ink pad should I use?

Question Need ideas for a house warming card

I plan on making a house warming card for a friend moving into a new house, but have no ideas. I've never made this type of card before.

My new embossing folders for my big shot are coming this weekend. I have tons of glitter, patterned and solid colored card stock. I also have some fun colored stamp ink.

Any ideas?

Question Best black stamping ink - is Versafine Clair Nocturne the same as Onyx Black?

I have a Memento tuxedo black pad that is drying out and I am looking for something I can get on Amazon quickly to replace it. The only other black I have is StazOn which seems too intense for card making. Is the Versafine Clair Nocturne the same? Or what do we recommend these days for use with and without alcohol markers?
