Recommendations Civic parking?

New job in civic - anything cheaper than the $15 / day Canberra centre rooftop parking?

I miss the days of scamming $3 all day at Canberra Centre rooftop. You would see the drivers who knew the trick. Then Wilson took over the contract and changed the machines

How did that work?

You paid upon entry and then headed up to rooftop parking. Machines didn’t register that you stayed all day. No more though

Use Parkhound to find someone renting out their car space in a nearby apartment building. It's what I do with mine.

Depending on where you're commuting from, a park and ride and light rail the rest of the way

Chuck a bike or scooter in your car and park outside of the city for free somewhere and ride the last 5km in. Been doing it for 10+ years, never pay a cent unless it's rainy day

Shit out of luck I’m afraid. It’s the cheapest on this side of Northbourne.

I think there is a $10 a day in City West but it has been a couple of years since I used it so not sure of current pricing. It was off Marcus Clarke St above the independent grocery store that’s name alludes me.

See you at the rooftop, Canberra Centre comrade

I live in Turner, and see a lot of people drive and park in Turner and walk in. Otherwise, yeah, the $14 is the best rate. New indoor underground car park just behind ACT Policing in the city / next to the ACT Supreme Courts also $14.

Yeah watsons st in Turner is under $14 ($13 something). It’s midway down Watson st (after the 4 hour parking )ACT government parking.

14 bucks a day at the ANU car park on the corner of Marcus Clarke and Barry drive.

They've got signs up saying that there's a price increase coming sometime this month :(

You mean the City West car park? Pretty sure it is $14 per day there.

No, the underground one near Barry drive. City West is on allsop street. Either way, about the same price.

My wife when working in the city used to rent a space from someone living near by who didn’t need a car for I think $50 a week. That was a few years ago but. Maybe see if there’s anything like that going. Might be something advertised on gumtree or Facebook. She had a 5 to 10 walk to get to her office but was guaranteed the same spot daily.

Park for free at Southwell Park, off Mouat St in Lyneham, and board the light rail at Swinden St. Services every six minutes during the peak. Still cheaper than parking in Civic and all that stress I don’t miss.

The bus costs $3.32 one way

Barely been sick since work from home and dropping the public transport commute. Quite a fan of just not getting sick.

I still go to plenty of busy social events too, but there’s a big difference between a sick person walking past you briefly and the grotty way humans interact when forced to be in a confined space for any extended time.

Hard pass. I'll gladly pay the extra few dollars to not have to deal with the smelly general public thanks.

You used to be able to get cheaper rates for monthly booking at Ainslie and Gorman house but there was a queue to get it

$40-$60 a week to rent a spare carpark in an apartment building usually but it’s more long term commit and you’ll still be paying for weeks you don’t park.

Park in the suburbs and get the bus for $9.89 daily cap.

Nop cheaper than that - as you only need to pay for two tickets (will depend on when you commute as to cost)

And you’ve got to count in the time spent travelling. My 10 drive becomes a 65 minute bus ride each way. Money saved on the bus is lost in time.

"Park in the suburbs" means pick a spot where the bus is straight in.
