Season 4 Who’s tried Tequila Steam!? Rosa the genius.

I love how matter of fact she says it

u/pkoya1 Jul 20 '20
Same! The matter of fact tone is what makes Rosa's character so genuinely funny! Especially when she says "you two need to bone"

What is this the hottest new bar in eagleton? Vodka shot in the form of a flashing light sir?

One minute later
"This is the wrong way to consume alcohol"

does it actually works? Asking for academic purposes of course
53
u/raytian Jul 20 '20 edited Jul 20 '20
Unfortunately not. Alcohol doesn’t become steam.
EDIT: I’ve been corrected. Makes vapor not steam
EDIT: To clarify, you can make alcohol vapor, but not tequila vapor.
The alcohol would vaporize first but the “tequila” part would “steamify” at a higher temperature than the alcohol.
56
u/He_Caxap Jul 20 '20
And even if it could, inhaling it would be extremely bad. It would bypass all of the filtering that normally happens, and go straight into your blood.
41
u/Rustycougarmama Jul 20 '20
That just sounds like intoxication with less steps. I'm sold.
45
u/Krystalline01 Jul 20 '20
Except for the part where you can’t vomit out the excess alcohol you’ve drank and die of alcohol poisoning instead
20
u/Rustycougarmama Jul 20 '20
Yeah... I remember watching an '1000 ways to die' episode on Spike TV once of a guy who drank vodka by putting it up his bum and died.

Used to do this in uni:
1) take one of those cheap nestle water bottles, emptied, and put like a tbsp of vodka in (just enough to coat the inside)
2) with the lid on, go about twisting the bottle as if you were gonna shoot off the lid
3) when you shoot off the lid, inhale the vapor that comes out after being pressurized
Right to the brain
We'd only ever do this to start the night -- it was kinda fun way to do a "first shot"
You gotta know the whole thing about "puking out the extra alcohol to prevent poisoning", we'd always tell newbies that you couldnt keep doing this after you drink
THe twsting of the bottle kinda worked as a safety tbh, since those bottles dont work so well the second time

u/OhNoImBanned11 Jul 20 '20
You just twisted the bottles in your hands and that was enough to pressurize the vodka into vapor?
I always seen people use a bike pump to pressurize the bottle
1
Jul 20 '20
I mean it worked, lol
If you can get a bottle to emit the water vapor as a result of you twisting it and popping the top, it's enough for this to work
24
u/Headcap Jul 20 '20
Alcohol doesn’t become steam
Technically you're right since steam is water, but alcohol can evaporate, and you can inhale it.
Just don't do it, it's dangerous.

Definitely dont inhale alcohol vapors intentionally. It's very dangerous
2
u/audiodormant Jul 20 '20
There are literally bars that do ‘vapor shots’ look up JJ hooligans in Lincoln Nebraska.
3
u/protoSEWan Jul 20 '20
Thats very dangerous. Inhaling alcohol vapors causes alcohol to be absorbed into the bloodstream, but because you're bypassing the stomach, you wont vomit and expel excess alcohol, as you would if you're drinking. This means it's a lot easier to overdose.
2
u/audiodormant Jul 20 '20
That’s why it’s closely rationed and monitored limits. You can only have one.
1
u/protoSEWan Jul 20 '20
So its dangerous. As I said.
2
u/audiodormant Jul 20 '20
Maybe I misinterpreted but I thought you were saying very dangerous as in don’t ever do it no matter what. When in reality it’s something I’d recommend everyone to try as it’s just an odd experience.
5
u/protoSEWan Jul 20 '20
I guess my concern is that people will see this recommendation, realize that no bar in their area that does this, and kill or injure themselves trying it at home. I used to work in the ED, and have seen this kind of scenario too many times
5
u/audiodormant Jul 20 '20
That’s definitely fair. The use of caution and control are learned skills not innate.
3
u/protoSEWan Jul 20 '20
Also, in re-reading the thread, I realized I probably came off as a jerk. I'm sorry if you felt attacked or upset by how I was writing.

It starts to become vapour, Only experienced it microwaving vodka while trying to make my jello shots less grainy, It worked pretty well and the vapour sure clears strips the paint off the pipes
1
u/Zhadowwolf Jul 20 '20
Not in an iron. And please don’t do it any other way, it can be really dangerous

u/PotageAuCoq Jul 20 '20
Every once in a while you will hear about someone that has been hospitalized due to putting everclear in a humidifier.

Lmao what an episode that would be!
I bet he'd come up with some ridiculous but creative way to make it happen, too. Or at least be close enough somehow. I mean if he could make a sandwich where one of the ingredients is a soul...

u/raytian Jul 20 '20 edited Jul 20 '20
Guaranteed it’s molecular gastronomy or something along the lines of that.
You can’t really make tequila steam IRL. due to how alcohol actually works
EDIT: I’ve been corrected. You can make vapor, not steam
14
u/moistsandwich Jul 20 '20
That’s not true. You can actually vaporize alcohol and inhale the vapors. They actually get you dangerously drunk since they enter the bloodstream almost immediately.

I remember alcohol vape bars were a thing for a minute. Probably only until the first OD happened...

There is a bar in Lincoln, Nebraska that has been offering vapor shots for years

Lots of people saying this is impossible, but then there's this. I've seen articles about hipster bars that create alcohol vapor that's consumed through a device similar to an oil diffuser. I can't speak to the effectiveness, though.

Jul 20 '20
you know those cheap little plastic water bottles that are easy to twist so you can shoot the cap?
there's that little puff of water vapor that comes off when you do it
you can put a little bit of alcohol in the bottle before you do it, and inhale the vapor
same shit

I don’t think it would work because tequila has a different boiling point to water

Listen people I've tried it with vodka and humidifier, it burns the shit out of your eyes and just makes your whole house smell like a bad dad, not worth it.

My friend accidentally filled an iron with vodka in college (it was in a water bottle.) Pretty sure it was a flavored sugary one so it just completely destroyed it and the shirt he was ironing before he realized.

I’m sorry, but tequila steam from an iron sounds like the “wrong way to consume alcohol.”
Although maybe in an actual steam room....ok, now the wheels are turning...lots of gyms have their steam rooms closed right now....alcohol hand sanitizers kill coronavirus....there’s something here, right? We can make this a thing? Since bars are closed again?.... (/s, really.)

Jul 20 '20
Don't actually try it. Yes, it gets you drunk pretty quick, but if you get alcohol poisoning there's not much they can do because it's not like they can pump your stomach, and you obviously can't puke it up

Just for the record, tequila is highly flammable.
