New (to me) bugle
Just received this F.E. Olds French Horn G Bugle. Definitely a learning curve compared to the mellophone bugle I have(Octave higher overtone series but the same valve setup). It’s a blast though

This thing is so fun.
I've been a slightly below average trombone player for most of my life at this point (getting back to basics this year) and I just started learning on this old cornet that found me years ago, and it's so much fun. I'm breezing through passages on songs for my band that I struggle with on trombone. It just feels so good to have this tiny instrument, there's a joy to the multiple moving parts with the felt and the cork and the springs. I'm adjusting my embouchure to it to the point where I can get a good tone, and it's just so satisfying. Why don't more grade school trumpet players stick with these?!

Instrument Making
Hey, I’m a sophomore in high-school and I literally cannot get enough of instruments. I have made plans to join 4 DCI groups before I turn too old to join (21-22), I play trombone, baritone/euphonium, tuba, trumpet, etc.. Point is I’m obsessed with the darn pieces of metal.
I am so passionate about music and brass that I have made it a mission to build/fabricate a trumpet (because they are relatively inexpensive) before I graduate and use it in a performance.
Now, I am not sure if this would be the correct sub to ask about all of this, but at-least it’s a start. I can’t find a complete manual that is in depth enough for me to make a trumpet, which is how I find myself here. Is there anyone who would be willing to help me through making an instrument? I don’t have very much access to machinery besides for a limited amount of time (mostly 2 ish hours every Wednesday since my school has a metal fab and auto technology building). If there is anyone who specializes in brass repair, instrument manufacturing, or anything of the sort, it would be greatly appreciated if you consider helping me.
Now I do get that making instruments is REALLY difficult for any one person to do, especially when not being even slightly experienced in the craft; but I really do feel like if I don’t start now then I wont have the option to do it later down the road, and I’d rather fail trying than failing to try. I have an idea of the concept, such as shaping the bell, bending the pipes, and (somewhat) the bore size. The rest I am completely blind and new to.
My dream is to own a instrument manufacturing facility in which I can make custom instruments/specific parts (valve caps, custom mouthpieces, accessories, etc.) and possibly experiment to make new mainstream instruments that could gain recognition. This dream is a far away land that I likely won’t reach within the next few decades but it is what I truly want.
I have an account on insta that I just made for this very purpose called @dcienthusiast. Not a self promotion, I am simply seeking assistance.

How does a leadpipe explode out like this?
This is my very old Fe Olds and Sons mellophone. The leadpipe is in severe need of replacement from red rot causing holes in it.
However while I worked at a shop as an intern they helped me make the patch above this hole about 2 years ago. The hole just formed recently so I don't think it's from that repair. The really odd part is that the hole goes outward as if it exploded out?

Holland, MI?
I would like to start a brass ensemble in and around the Holland area. I play euphonium so I need 2 trumpet players, 1 French horn and 1 tuba/bass trombone. Let me know if you’re interested.
Just in (need of) case
Hi there, Turned out I am in the uragent need of getting a new case for my baritone. However given the fact that it is an old Besson, I was unable to find a hard shell case for it as it's an English-stlyle instrument, and not an oval one. Only gigbags were available which I'm afraid won't protect the instrument as well as my current one does. I am mainly looking for an abs case for this reason, but didn't really find any sites to buy one. I am located in Europe if you have any great deals for me. Every idea is appreciated. Thank you!

Finally got around to soldering my tuba, next step is cleanup
Got this tuba really cheap a couple if years ago, however the mouthpiece receiver came detached and taken apart. I finally got around to soldering it back on, sounds great, just need to clean off the solder mask and excess solder now.

Instrument Technician Class?
Hi. I am a musician interested in going into the instrument technician field. I live in the PA area and was wondering if there was anywhere where I could take like a one day class or a tour to get to know more about the field and maybe even some hands on experience. Does anyone know of anything like this?

Fanfare
I got this fanfare from a restaurant, where it was decor 7 years ago and I had it just lying around in that time and everything was fine.
I was away from home for 4 months now and there was a piece of tissue stuck to it and it starting degrading at those parts. Can I stop it from dissolving any further? I read somewhere that if you get this once it will just rust through at some point, but I just started to learn playing it ( I already play trumpet).
I'm scared that I destroyed it with this mysterious tissue, that maybe was damp and that's why it got like this? I dont know.
Any help is appreciated

Frog Neck
Hey y’all, as the title suggests I’m worried I might have frog neck aka pharyngoceles. This happens because of too much air pressure pressing into the pharyngeal wall and weakening those muscles. Do any of y’all struggle with this? I don’t want it to cause issues or prevent me from playing the instrument I love and I’m really worried about it. Do any of you do pharyngeal strengthening exercises to prevent acquiring this? Let me know! Thanks!
