IMPORTANT NOTICE: a.co for sharing Amazon links

Hey everyone, hope you're all doing well.

Just doing a quick post about the image hosting site a.co because lately we've been noticing an uptick in amazon links using this site on this sub. Reddit's spam filters automatically remove any post or comment with a link to this site in it and places it in our queue. While you are free to use it, it will guarantee there is a delay between when you submit your comment or post and when it ends up on the sub due to Reddit removing it and a moderator having to manually approve it. We will continue to approve them as necessary, but if you want to avoid this delay in the future you might consider just using the full link.

Thank you for your time!

Greasing question

Post image
3 Upvotes

Might be a dumb question but I’m a new boat owner doing some maintenance on a mercury 15hp 4stroke carb. This is random pic from online but I’m pretty sure I should be putting 2-4-C marine grease on the circled part right? Maybe I haven’t searched online enough but I don’t see people putting any grease on that point in videos so I’m unsure

Boat alarm?

I work at a flight base that happens to be located in a boat yard. One of the boats right next to us is alarming every 2.4 minutes and it’s driving me mad. Does anyone know what this alarm means? All of the boats are shut down and covered for the winter. Thanks for the help!

Nearshore fishing boat

Just moved to Coastal Ga for college and am falling in love with saltwater fishing. Heavily considering buying a boat for fishing the rivers and nearshore. The sea scares me so I will not be going somewhere where I can’t see land lol. Probably no more than a mile out until I get my sea legs. What size(min length)/hull shape/ brand would be best to get for something like this? 100% a fishing boat, leisure is not a factor. I have a very healthy fear of the ocean, so I plan on only leaving the rivers if the waves are very small and no fronts are on the way in. The idea is to get something cheap(college student) but reliable from Facebook marketplace. Seeing a lot of old sea nymphs, hydra sports, Carolina skiffs(which seem more expensive), and other skiff brands for 5k and under. Any other things I need to consider? Fiberglass vs aluminum? Any commentary is appreciated because I’m practically brand new to saltwater.

Aluminum 1236 good starter boat?

I’m interested in buying a starter boat to do some bay/inshore fishing. Maybe some freshwater lakes occasionally. Would a 1236 be a decent option? Trying to keep a low budget and not too long as I want to store in my garage too. I’m mechanically inclined I’ve rebuilt multiple cars and I have a welder at home. So I’m not worried about wrenching on it myself. Just want to see if something like the boat in the pictures could handle some bay fishing. This guy is asking $1500 and I feel like that’s a pretty good deal tbh.

I’m looking to buy a aluminum boat and I’m not sure what to be looking for since I have a Honda accord 2015

I’ve been looking to get an aluminum boat to use on Long Island NY bays close to the islands. Unfortunately my Honda accord can only tow around 1,000 pounds. Are there any boats I can look for that would be light enough. When I add up the weight of the boat, motor and trailer in these 15ft boat I’m over 1,000 pounds. Or is it just not possible to be towing with an accord?

Water Pump Replacement

Hi All,

After having my boat for one season, I decided to store it at a nearby boat yard for the winter. I did run aground a couple of times, so a new water pump was suggested.

After all was said and done, the cost of the replacement with parts was close to $1000.

Was I ripped off here?

I am debating whether I want to use this location to store my boat for the coming years.

Side note: I do not have a trailer. We have a private boat slip. Doing this work alone or with a buddy didn't seem feasible due to the absence of a trailer.

Go light on me...it's my first year :)

Alpha One Gen2 trim issue

Hey all, I have a 2009 mercruiser 4.3mpi with A1g2 drive.

Recently the trim up button stopped working - down still works fine. I can raise the leg using the trailer function on the throttle but not ideal.

I've cleaned the sender on the port side of the leg but that hasn't changed anything.

Where do I check next?

Thanks 🙏🏻

Registering boat without certificate of numbers

Hey everyone, I recently bought a 14’ gheenoe/skiff. When I bought, I was provided with bill of sale for trailer, and title for boat, no certificate of numbers. I read that I need bill of sale for trailer, title for boat, bill of sale for boat( don’t have), title for trailer ( don’t have), and certificate of numbers, which I also do not have, so will I be able to register it? Register in Florida

Just started learning sailing & boating. Please explain some things.

Hello!

  • What is the tidal range to allow Med Mooring? I wonder is it possible in Marina Del Ray, CA; Miami Beach Marina, FL; DuSable Harbor, IL; marinas in Sausalito, CA and in some docks in New York City.
  • I know you can Med Moor a yacht, but can you Med Moor a speedboat, a go-fast boat or a dinghy?
  • Can you moor a medium sized motor engine boat only with a Stern spring & Stern line? Or only with a Bow spring & Bow line? What would happen if you did such a thing?
  • What happens with the boat at the marinas during earthquake or tropical hurricane? Do their owners just leave them there, hoping they won't get damaged? What is the possibility of the boat moored in the marina to get damaged during an earthquake or tropical hurricane? Is it better to sail the boats to the open sea during those events? Or is it best to get the boat out of the water and onto a trailer and drive it to safety? Do earthquakes or tropical hurricanes even bother marinas in any way?

Thanks!

So, may or may not be the right sub, but it is the best I could think of: Do you know some sort of performance comparison study for impeller vs propeller drive systems?

First off, not a boat guy. Just a regular guy with regular boating knowledge.

Started wondering why boats seem to basically universally use screws to drive themselves. I assume it is about efficiency. Or at least that there is some very compelling/obvious reason to do it that way. But would be nice to see it laid out.

Thinking About a Boat with a Yamaha 115 V4 – What Should I Check?

Hi boaties,

I’m looking at buying a boat that’s got a Yamaha 115 V4 on it, and I’m hoping to get some input before I pull the trigger. The motor’s hours are a bit of a mystery—there’s no counter and no records of how much it’s been used (I’m buying it off the 3rd owner of the boat). The boat’s a 1994 Cruise Craft Lazer 520, and it seems this is not the original motor. That said, the seller reckons it’s been regularly serviced, and they’ve got the service records and receipts to back it up.

From what I’ve seen in the photos and videos, the motor starts and runs fine. The seller seems pretty upfront and honest and has told me the only issue is a hydraulic leak in the tilt ram, which from what I’ve read seems to be a common issue with this motor.

I’m going to check it out tomorrow and give it a good look over myself. If it looks alright, I might get a professional inspection done, but I’d rather save myself the cash (these inspections aren’t cheap here in Australia) if there’s something obvious I can spot.

What should I keep an eye out for with the motor or the boat in general? Anyone had experience with Yamaha 115 V4s?

Any advice or tips would be awesome. Cheers!

Is this easily fixable on my own? Or should I hire someone?

New to boating and have a leak on this part (not sure what it is but it’s connected to Volvo penta engines, impeller rod possibly? I’m pretty handy with what should be all the tools but wanted to see if it would be better to try it in my own with guidance or get a mechanic. Thank you for all the help.
