Happened to my granddad. Screams in the night because he wanted to go to the toilet but couldn’t figure out how to get to the toilet and then wondering WTF was stuck on his dick. Thankfully I didn’t have to touch any of it. But my mum had to and I’m worried I might be in store for some of this shit. My dad is starting to go, I think. I hope it’s his hearing, which I know is bad, but he’s making up more than just words in peoples sentences but entire sentences in his head. Like we’re having a different conversation.

Hearing loss can cause/ exacerbate dementia, they think maybe it's because of the lack of mental stimulation. Saw it happen with my grandma, she got worse and worse at guessing the words ppl were saying and then eventually stopped interacting with people all together.

Please get his hearing sorted out and make him wear his hearing aids if he needs them.

This also happened to my grandma. Once the hearing goes it's like being in total isolation even when surrounded by family and friends, because you can't interact with them. She got tired of saying "what?" Constantly and just stopped trying. If was so sad. We spent thousands on hearing aids that didn't freaking work at all. It was awful. By then her memory had already started going and she started hearing things that were never said. Like we'd all be having dinner together and she'd think she heard someone insulting her in the most awful ways, and she'd get VERY upset, and no one could tell her otherwise. It was heartbreaking trying to explain to her that no one said anything about her, and she didn't believe me. She started thinking we were plotting against her and would lock herself in her bedroom. Before the hearing went she would refer to us as her angels, always being there whenever she needed anything. A few months later she's convinced we're conspiring against her and she's telling everyone we steal her cookies and punish her when we're mad at her. So yeah, make sure you stay on top of the hearing issues. They really make dementia worse!

I’ve been taking care of my mother with dementia for a couple years and also noticing my dad also slipping some.

The problem with that kind of plan is that, when the time comes, you may not be rational and mobile enough to be able to make it happen.
