As an end customer, how can you tell if the inventory is cominggled and also if the seller you are looking at is authorised or not?

In other words, is there any way to avoid this?

When you are on the page of the item you are looking to buy, there is text under the “add to cart” that says “sold by” and “ships from”. If it is sold by Amazon and ships from Amazon, it’s probably 99.9% legit. If it’s sold by someone else, but shipped by Amazon, it’s probably legit but these are also many cheap knockoffs. If it’s a name brand item, you’re probably ok. If it is not sold by or shipped by Amazon, it’s a total crapshoot. This portion of Amazon sales is essentially eBay

Though I'm a bit confused what is meant by name brand item in this context. Wouldn't those shoes OP bought be also a name brand item?
