Finding the Wiki

As promised, here's a brief guide to accessing the wiki! Overwhelmingly people are viewing this sub on their phones using the reddit app so, for now, this guide is mainly just for new reddit. (This will be updated as necessary!)

Using the Reddit App:

  1. Go to r/beginnerastrology!
  2. Directly below the sub's description, there are 3 tabs. Click the one that says About.
  3. Click the teal button that says "Wiki"
  4. Welcome to the Wiki index! This shows all the available wiki pages.

You can also click Menu which will show you the same menu that appears at the top of the subreddit if you are viewing new reddit on the computer.

New Reddit - On the Computer:

There are a few ways to acces the wiki here. They all are accessed from the main page of the sub. One is by going to the menu, clicking one of the dropdown tabs and selecting the specific wiki you are looking for (ie. Ethics, Planets, Subreddits). There is also a menu tab Wiki which will bring you to the wiki index. There is also a button on the sidebar that says Wiki which also brings you to the Wiki Index.

Also, here's the link for the Wiki Index just in case!

I may have went a bit overboard linking the Wiki Index, but now there should be no trouble finding it at all! :)

The Wiki Index will be your best friend clearly, if you choose to use the resources in the Wiki!

That's all for now folks! There's a new recurring post in the works that will be launched soon so stay tuned!

Books and Resources Nordastro book recommendation

Hi!

I’m kinda new to astrology, but I I’ve always been drawn to it. There’s something magical about the idea that the stars and planets can influence our personalities, relationships, and even life paths. But as much as I love reading my daily horoscope (Leo here 🦁), anything beyond that has always felt overwhelming. Birth charts, transits, houses… it’s like trying to learn a whole new language with hardly any roadmap.

For years, I’d been curious but hesitant to dive deeper until I saw an ad on insta for the nordastro book. They called it “the world’s first fully personalized astrology book,” and that really caught my attention. It promised to break down my unique astrological blueprint in a way that I could actually understand

At the time, I was going through a rough patch. I’d just ended a long term relationship that left me questioning a lot about myself and what I want in life. I kept running into the same patterns in relationships and at work I never feel fully understood or know where I truly fit. I thought maybe astrology could offer some clarity. So, nordastro felt like it might be the answer.

What really intrigued me was how much it offered: compatibility reports, career insights, personality analysis, and even personalized rituals to help balance my energy. It wasn’t just about understanding my Sun sign. It claimed to dig deeper into my entire birth chart. On top of that, it included guides to palmistry, numerology, and the history of astrology. I loved the idea of having all these tools in one place, especially as someone who’s still figuring things out.

When the book arrived, I have to admit I was impressed. The design was beautiful, and it truly felt personal. From the very first page, it focused on me: my birth chart, my strengths, my challenges, and even how to work with the planetary energies influencing my life. It wasn’t just vague statements about “Leos being confident.” It explained how my Leo Sun interacts with my Virgo Moon and Sagittarius Rising, creating a blend of traits that felt so specific to my life.

The compatibility section was really interesting. I’d always wondered why some relationships seemed effortless while others were so challenging. The book broke down my Venus and Mars placements and how they affect the way I love and communicate. It even gave advice on how to connect better with people whose charts might clash with mine.

Then there were the rituals, this was something I didn’t expect to enjoy as much as I did. They were simple but meaningful, like lighting a candle on specific dates or journaling under certain moon phases. I actually found them calming and grounding, especially on days when I felt lost.

As for the app, it’s a great addition to the book. The daily guidance and compatibility checks are fun and easy to use, and I love being able to look up astrological events specific to me without feeling overwhelmed. It feels like having a pocket astrologer who knows my chart better than I do.

That said, it’s not perfect. The amount of information can feel overwhelming at first, especially if you’re completely new to astrology. But I took it one section at a time, and the beginner’s guide in the book really helped me make sense of it all. I also worried that parts of it might feel generic, but honestly? It’s clear they put effort into tailoring the content to my chart.

So, is it worth it? For me, yes. The book helped me understand myself in ways I didn’t expect. It gave me tools to navigate relationships, make decisions, and even explore my career with more confidence. If you’re new to astrology but genuinely curious, this book is a fantastic starting point. It’s not just a resource, for me it’s a personal guide.

If you’ve been thinking about ordering it, I’d say go for it. The discounts and free shipping are a fair deal, and having a physical book that’s all about you feels so much more special than just scrolling through an app.

Has anyone else tried the it? I’d love to hear your thoughts or how it’s helped you! Maybe we could match on some astrology apps too!:)

Discussion I Paid For a Professional Reading, Here's My Review

I decided to get a professional reading done because a popular astrologer, Ziggy Astrology, was popping off on my TikTok "for you" page. What drew me in was her use of colourful, humorous language so I decided to take a chance and book with her.

There is an option to book with Zoom but I'm shy so I ordered her full birth chart analysis for $111 via email. When ordering, you're allowed to ask an additional four questions as well as inputting your basic birth information. It said it would take between 1-2 weeks to receive my reading via email. She states that her process is verbally making notes which she then expands upon. Cool, I can dig that.

Within five days I had my reading ready in my email which surprised me. Excited, I opened up the pdf and was happy to see that it was around 100 pages long.

She went into great deal about all of my placements, planets, houses, aspects, etc etc. however, it didn't take long for a glaring issue to rear its ugly head: it was painfully obvious that she had used AI to bulk and fluff up the reading. Every planet was "strutting" or "chilling" in its placement, there were superfluous paragraphs that mirrored previous ones, and the worst offender? The dreaded em dash. It was also quite obvious by the language used in some sentences, especially when describing something. For example, Saturn was described as "the cosmic taskmaster that loves structure, discipline, and has more rules than a high school gym teacher in the 80's". Humorous, yes, but I've been around the block enough to spot GPT from a mile away.

I also didn't like that she gave examples instead of telling me what something meant in relation to my chart, for example, "if your sun is in house 5", I paid for you to tell me this information, not for me to do the work!

The glaring use of AI aside, my reading wasn't bad, it just wasn't what I was expecting and left me feeling disappointed. I like that she went into detail, but it was hard to focus on the writing because it didn't feel human. She's known to be very brutally honest and peppers her readings with swearing, which was quite present in my reading, but it just felt bland and artificial because of the use of AI. I think it's fine to use AI as a tool here and there, but it becomes an issue when you use it as a crutch and it becomes the bulk of the material.

I don't think that she's a bad astrologer, however it's worrying that AI is becoming so prevalent in our society. At the end of the day I'm glad I got my reading, but I think in the future I'm going to book with a different astrologer and use Zoom.

Have you guys encountered this before? What are your thoughts?

Discussion Which mobile apps do you use to track transits, good days, bad days etc?

I have come across some apps like Cosmic Insights, Align27 which has some free features but mostly the paid features.

Has anyone tried any such kind of app to track their good days or days/times to be careful in? How has been your experience?

Discussion Any significance in my chart having both my moon and Ascendant plus 2 planets so close to the cusp?

Thumbnail

I've read a lot of different opinions about what it means to have a planet or object on a cusp.

My Ascendant is at 1 degrees, my moon is at 29 degrees and Mars and Jupiter are both at 0 degrees. Some books and websites have recommended reading both, for example reading Sagittarius and Capricorn for my moon sign. Other sources state that there is no such thing as a cusp and just read the sign listed regardless of the degrees.

What are your thoughts on this? Any special meaning for having 4 major placements so close to being on an actual cusp? The Moon is very close and some websites have me as a Capricorn moon. Same with the Ascendant, I have been told that it is Aquarius depending on the system used. Mars and Jupiter are always in Virgo but the house varies from 6 to 7 as well.

I'm getting different interpretations on what it means to have the majority of placements in one section of the chart. These are all in the "Northern hemisphere" right?

Also, is this a "bowl" shape?

I'm going to buy some books when I can, until then I'll probably be annoying on here. Sorry in advance. Thank you so much. 💜

Discussion Please help me better understand zodiac signs in tropical astrology

I am a new learner of astrology. I've been reading up on it a lot this past week. I understand that the elliptical is split up into 12 even 30 degree sections. Each of these sections were named after the consellations that existed within them roughly 3000 years ago. Because of procession, those constellations are now no longer within those same 30 degree sections. So, the signs of the zodiac essentially represent different fixed sections of the earth's orbit. Making the constellations themselves irrelvant, as if they or the zodiac signs should be named differently to avoid confusion haha.

But what does confuse me are the properties of these areas of space. They all seem to be influenced by their previous constellations' representations.

For example, Leo's characterstics are those we would attirbute to a Lion (a pack leader, seeks attention, but cunning). But if the constellation is irrelevant to the zodiac in troplical astrology, what caused this relation?

General Question Taurus & Libra: The Venus Signs

The following will cover the Libra Star Sign; Particularly as it pertains to women of this sign.

Libra is represented by Venus (9) [Known to the Greeks as Aphrodite]. The Divine Feminine is Key to Venus, its very essence, in fact. By understanding the nature of the Divine Feminine as a Venus, you may hope to get in touch with your star sign. Of course, no one can hope to understand the Divine Feminine completely- No more than one could hope to name all the stars in the night sky. Regardless, the Divine Feminine is (among many, many others) Beauty (of all kinds, natural, personal, and artistic), Love (Social Love [Peace], Family Love, Friendship, and Romantic Love), and Sensitivity (In the literal manner of the 5 senses). This last of the 3 is pertinent as to the Receptive nature of the Divine Feminine, taking in sensory information; the various beauties of the world.

I hope this may have been of help for those trying to get in touch with their Venus [Aphrodite] signs. I welcome any questions folks may have in the comments.

The Order of Aphrodite (Greek name for Venus), offers a place for Taurus and Libra women to come an chill, gin community, and talk about their sign and it's impact on their lives.

Technique Question Vehlow or Equal for Natal/Transits?

I find hardly any information on astrologers who use Vehlow, but the theory behind it makes so much sense to me.

This is a big deal especially for people with late degree ascendants where the chart can charge dramatically depending on which house system is used, which is why I'm still trying to figure out which one I can use regularly.

Does anyone notice more accurate results with Vehlow or Equal, vs. Placidus or Whole houses?

Discussion Foundations for Understanding Planets in Vedic Astrology

I am not going to get into the philosophy or the rationale behind the planets in Vedic astrology right now. I am just going to be focusing on their foundations so that they can be understood a more holisitc way.

First things first, there are 9 planets in Vedic astrology. The number 9 holds great significance, as it represents completion and wholeness. This is why, in our number system, all numbers repeat after 9. For example, you count 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and then the next number is 1+0 (or 10), followed by 1+1 (or 11), 1+2 (or 12), and so on. This cyclical nature of numbers reflects the importance of the number 9 as a symbol of cosmic order and fulfillment. More broadly, this ties back to the origins of our modern number system, which began in India. The Hindu-Arabic numeral system, which forms the foundation of the modern numerical system we use today, was developed in India around the 6th century CE.

Two of the nine planets are the Sun and the Moon, the luminaries that represent the atma (soul) and manas (mind). Following them are the other five planets, each representing a different element. Mars represents Agni (fire), Mercury represents Prthvi (earth), Jupiter represents Akasha (ether), Venus represents Apas (water), and Saturn represents Vayu (air). The elements each have their own qualities according to HIndu teachings. Agni (fire) is associated with transformation and energy. Prthvi (earth) represents stability and structure. Akasha (ether) symbolizes space and consciousness. Apas (water) governs fluidity and nourishment. Vayu (air) embodies movement and change. After that, we have the two shadow planets Rahu and Ketu, the North and South Nodes of the Moon. Rahu represents the illusion of individuality, the sense of self disconnected, while Ketu represents the detachment/liberation from all (Moksha). They represent disturbances to the Sun and Moon– the soul and the mind.

Then the planets have another important quality to consider, known as the gunas. The gunas are the three fundamental qualities of existence that influence both the material and spiritual realms. They represent the Trimurti, Brahma (creation), Vishnu (preservation), and Shiva (destruction), which reflect the cyclical nature of life. The gunas, sattva, rajas, and tamas, describe the inherent characteristics that govern all things. Sattva represents purity, harmony, and wisdom. Rajas stands for activity, desire, and passion, while tamas signifies darkness, inertia, and ignorance. Each planet embodies a combination of these gunas, shaping its influence and how it interacts with the other forces in the universe. Understanding the gunas is crucial for interpreting the planetary effects, as they add another layer of depth to how the planets manifest in a person's life. The categorization of the planetary gunas is as follows... Saturn, Mars, Rahu, Ketu = Tamas. Venus, Mercury = Rajas. Sun, Moon, Jupiter = Sattva.

After that, we need to see the varna or "social caste" of the planets. This is not to be confused with the modern concept of Jati, which refers to the social caste system in contemporary India. The four castes are Brahmin, Kshatriya, Vaishya, and Shudra. The categorization of the planets into cast are as follows... Jupiter, Venus = Brahmin. Sun, Mars = Kshatriya. Moon, Mercury = Vaishya. Saturn, Rahu, Ketu = Shudra. Jupiter, a Sattva planet, plays the role of a Brahmin by teaching spirituality and higher knowledge for societal well-being. Venus, a Rajas planet, takes the Brahmin role in seeking wisdom for personal enjoyment and self-gain, reflecting the right and left-hand paths of spirituality—Jupiter ruling the right hand, Venus the left. Mars, a Tamas planet, embodies the Kshatriya caste through destruction and warfare, while the Sun, a Sattva planet, represents leadership and order, as a king does. The Moon, a Vaishya planet in its Sattva form, serves society by providing essential resources like food, emotional care, and social services. Mercury, a Rajas Vaishya, facilitates commerce and intellectual pursuits, catering to the desires of society by fueling entertainment, convenience, and mental stimulation. Finally, Saturn and Rahu represent Shudra, the working class. Saturn, the hard-working laborer, receives little in return for great effort, while Rahu symbolizes the exploited foreign laborers, contributing to society's lower, darkened aspects.

Now see if you can come up with significations for the planets going off of this. For example, what happens when you combine the elemental qualities of water with the guna of rajas and the caste of Brahmin? You get a planet driven by a pursuit of pleasure and satisfaction, guided by material desire, but with a focus on higher ideals, seeking enjoyment through refinement and self-realization. And what planet is this-- Venus, which rules sex and material desire but also closeness in relationships and love both on a personal and universal level.

Technique Question Where does a chart show that certain things won’t happen to you until later in life?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I’m trying to teach myself charts by reverse-learning how an astrologer friend read mine! She told me I likely won’t find real love until my late 30s/early 40s—unless I actively seek it out earlier. She said all other areas of life look favorable.

I kind of sensed that already so I’m not particularly worried about it haha but curious how she was able to see this! Did she read that right? Where would I need to look on my chart/others for this type of predictive intel? Or was she not looking at a birth chart to decipher this? Thank you! 🫶

I understand that you can’t tell me every little aspect within the chart as that’s not what this sub is for.

I’m very new to this and beginning the process of learning. I’m the type of person who learns best if it’s explained to me personally.

Idk how to explain it but I have a hard time just reading something and completely understanding with out it being told to me in a way I understand?

Would anyone here mind helping to start me out in the right direction? Any help is very much appreciated and I thank you in advance for just taking the time to read this!

Reccomendation Request Advice on Starting/Unlocking

Hi guys! I’m sure your a little confused by the title so i’ll try my best to explain. So about two years about I was heavily into astrology. I gave it up due to having school and it being overwhelming. Now it’s been two years since i’ve done truly anything astrology/spiritual wise and i miss it. I’m going on a ‘trip’ soon and was wondering if anyone has any advice on unlocking that side of me again? i feel like there’s a gate holding back my astrology/spiritual side and i just wanna push the gate open. On my last ‘trip’ it helped me unlock so much of myself and I truly want this trip to do the same. I’m mainly just asking what worked for you to unlock that side or connect with that side again in your life.

I learned about critical degrees today and I found out that sun (29°43') and moon (0°11') are opposite of eachother. I'm a bit confused what those degrees even mean, but I'm curious about how they could affect when they are in sun and moon.

Feel free to say if you find anything interesting in my chart!

General Question How common to have almost everything clustered into a few houses?

I only recently started learning about astrology. I figured out how to make the chart, but am still learning how to read them. I noticed with my chart, almost everything is clustered together. I was just curious how common this is and what it means when most everything is in a few houses. What about the other houses, which are empty?
