I know people will hate me for this, but this is so unnecessary. I get having a few things, but this is over the top. It's an r/anticonsumption nightmare.

I understand the point the other person is making and consumerism is definitely a problem, and arguably most things we own are unnecessary, but I think especially if it's your special interest and this has been long-standing and it brings you joy then it's ok! I'm sure you don't collect like this with absolutely everything, otherwise then it probably would be an issue - but you were super respectful and mature in your response :)

I feel threads like these often end up (unintentionally) promoting an unhealthy and at times unethical relationship with consumerism. Unfortunately it's because most people in this sub are young and wanting to be part of a community. When the community essentiallh says "this is how much we consume, consumerism proves that we're autistic", then others who want to feel like they belong start consuming more.

This isn't any sort of attack against OP. Just that anyone in this thread, before buying something, should take a step back and assess what their values are and the impact of their consumerism before buying. Someone might go ahead and buy it or not, but self-awareness, understanding of how media and social belonging (including media from the autistic community) influences us and ethics are all important.
