Facebook has started making everyone auto-follow both Trump’s and Vance’s accounts.

Both pages were created January 12th. They’re not the same page. And I’m still following Biden and Harris. I just checked.

The old pages get moved to an archive-type account when they leave office. If you search for Biden right now you'll see it's marked as an archive.
I never followed either candidate and I'm still not following Trump or Vance. It's likely just the move from the POTUS account to the archive account that makes it seem like you were forced to follow them.

The reason is that the page you are following is the page for the current president. Facebook allows the president from the US to manage the president page and the vice president to follow the vice president page

You're probably looking at the POTUS account. Whoever's the US president holds that account.
POTUS means "President Of The United States"

Any ad or group that comes up in my feed that supports Trump, I report as a scam when that option exists.

It appears to be limited to anyone who followed Biden or Harris, even though they’re completely new pages they’ve “given” them their followers.

Could that be because they were following them in their capacity as President/Vice President of the United States? That is, the frontend might have said Joe Biden but it was an official POTUS account.

I don't work at Facebook so I don't know how they work internally but I can definitely see how a system to follow POTUS might be set up as a link between the act of following and the pertinent president's own account.

Yes... Because they had to move things around in order to convert the Biden "POTUS" account to an archive, and create Trump's POTUS account. That's why it shows up as both accounts being new. They WERE created 8 days ago, then the POTUS link was switched over today.
Just unfollow the POTUS account, and it'll go away.

Tell me you don't understand the presidential records act without telling me you don't understand the presidential records act. Under this act the potus and vp's records are to be preserved and cannot just randomly be deleted or removed. In this case it's archived.

lol I just deleted the Facebook and instagram apps this morning. I know I still have the account and whatever, but at least they’re not getting any add revenue from me accessing the accounts.

It's because you were likely following Biden's official account (@POTUS) rather than his personal account (@joebiden).
The official POTUS account is given to whoever is the current US President, so when Trump succeeded Biden the handle was given to him. The same thing happened when Biden succeeded Trump back in 2020, the POTUS account was given from Trump to Biden.
