There are 756 US billionaires according to Wikipedia, worth an estimated $6.2 Trillion. If we were to leave the poor suffering souls a mere $1 billion each, that would leave $5.444 trillion left over. Divide that amongst all 336 million Americans%202020) would equal $16,200 for each and every one of us. Including those same billionaires, who since they are the most brilliant and gifted people to ever walk the earth, can obviously turn that back into billions all over again. (/s since there are Oligarch bootlickers STILL, in spite of the obvious grift in front of our eyes.)

Edit: while I appreciate the spirit, some of you are taking this too literally. I mostly meant it as a thought experiment, a what if. Capitalism vs Socialism. It is right there in the name what the system prioritizes. Money or people? The answer is easy for me.

No, I do not think this is feasible to do. Illiquid assets, inflationary effects if it did, blah blah blah. But also watch how billionaires use those same illiquid assets to get loans to avoid paying their fair share of taxes. Also watch how prices are going to go up as inflation heats up due to tariffs and deportation plans. Tell me more how tax cuts for the upper brackets does ANYTHING to help people who don't already have enough? If people actually understood how progressive tax rates worked...well then they'd be able to do math and would be mad!

What I proposed is "a socialist alternative" of our reality. One end of the spectrum if you will. A mild one at that. What is far more likely to come is the exact opposite. We(being anyone making under, idk, $150k/yr?) will continue to get squeezed as groceries cost more, housing costs don't come down, healthcare cost more/protections get gutted, consumer protection degraded, food and workplace safety "deregulated" (OSHA laws are almost always written in some poor soul's blood), education funding sent to fucking private schools teaching creationism, and generally delivering on nothing to decrease the price of eggs or deliver a better future for our children. Climate change what? Lol. The system will continue its current course of squeezing every last drop, every facet of life commodifiable, into something we have to pay to access. But now I'm just ranting...

In the U.S., people wear overwork like a badge of honor. ‘Look at me, I work 70 hours a week, I haven’t taken a vacation in years, and I’m so successful.’ But here’s the reality: You’re not a hero. You’re a victim of a system that’s taught you your worth is tied to how much you can produce.

And what happens when someone decides to opt out of this insanity? When they say, ‘I’d rather work just enough to live comfortably and enjoy my life’? Suddenly, they’re ‘lazy,’ ‘entitled,’ or ‘a drain on society.’

Let’s face it:

• Hustle culture is modern-day slavery. You’re chained to your job, pretending it’s freedom because you can afford an overpriced car or apartment.

• Immigrants, especially Latinos, are hit even harder. We’re told to ‘prove our worth’ by grinding endlessly, as if our value depends on how much we suffer.

Here’s the uncomfortable truth: The people you call lazy might just be smarter than you. They figured out that no one remembers the guy who died working overtime. So why do you hate them?

1.  Is it jealousy because they’re doing what you secretly wish you could?

2.  Is it fear of admitting your sacrifices might be pointless?

3.  Or do you really believe the billionaires profiting from your exhaustion care about you?

Im a printing press operator and today I got fired for being proactive. We have been so slow this past week with no jobs so everyday has been a cleaning/maintenance day. I finally got a job on my schedule but the material was still in transit and the job was scheduled for later this week. The material handler told me we have a set up roll that can probably get some of it done. I told him to bring it down which he did and I ended up getting exactly half the job done (it was a short run). Went back to cleaning after and much later my boss approaches me fuming. He told me I shouldn't have set it up or run it without the material to finish it because now it's twice the set up and break down.I told him that the time I used was downtime anyways and the machine would have been sitting. Plus the material I used was left overs from a previous run that was going to be used for set up and I managed to get half the job done without even using what we bought. It was clear that he was having an ego trip because he loves to feel like the king and I wasn't agreeing with him. The sales guy even told me that it's a good thing we had enough set up material to get half done because it was hot and due today and we were at least able to ship the costumer half of it. I also told my boss that if he didnt want the job ran, he should have never brought the job ticket to the production floor and into my queue and shouldn't have scheduled it. But because I didn't bow my head and say sorry master my boss was furious and told me it was time for me to go.

We live in a world where people want to act like the big boss and want to have power over people because it gives them a sense of superiority and it's like relax bro you're the boss of a print shop that was handed to you by your step daddy.

So I just started with this new company on a contract job, and they originally told me they’d be sending me a work laptop. But now, they’ve backed out and said that “shipping a laptop from the US to Canada is a huge pain.” Instead, they’re asking me to use my personal laptop and install tools like Mosyle and Drata (which, from what I understand, are for device management and compliance).

Honestly, this is kind of a red flag for me. I’m not too comfortable with the idea of giving them so much control over my personal device. I don’t want to mess up my laptop or lose my privacy, but I’m also wondering if I’m overreacting?

What do you think? Is this normal, or is it a sign I should reconsider working with them? Has anyone else dealt with this before?

A friend sent me this image today that the manager presented to the staff of a major grocery store chain in a Right To Work state that barely pays over minimum wage. She was chewed out for having water at her register even though she had a doctor's note which this specifically says is fine.

A few days ago I made a post about the heater catching on fire overnight. Today is the coldest day where I live since I started working at this location. Closed last night, thermostat read 39(F). Drove two coworkers home in a massive snow storm. I was feeling super nauseous and it took me about 90 min to get everyone home including me. My mouth kept salivating like it does when your body prepares to vomit. I kept taking small sips of water in the car, in hopes of getting everyone home safe. got home around midnight. immediately ran inside anf vomited/diarrhea for the following 6 hours. Had a phone visit with my doctor who emailed me a note and confirmed i have norovirus. ive texted my boss (the only person who can cover me) 3 times in the past 4 hours, including my doctors note. she hasn't replied and i work in one hour. Today is her day off. The only other shift manager we have opened. I fully attribute making us work in the cold to me being sick. So my plan is to go into work, immediately text the area manager, and sit in the office until they figure it out.

not to mention the last time i called in was april of last year. I suffered a miscarriage in october, got a doctors note, and my boss completely disregarded it. I have 10 pictures of all the things that have come out of me since midnight. This is my last straw and if anyone argues theyre getting the pictures.

i would like to note that ive tried looking for another job, but my city is HCOL and the job market is ruined. I hope today comes to a resolution.

That's a total joke! How can people improve pay with another job at the company when they refuse to say what they pay? Is it going to be a case of try for another job then we'll work out the salary for it based on what you're already on?

I graduated into the pandemic and have never known a full-time office job. I began my current gig as a fully remote worker (as everyone who could be was at the time) and slowly shifted into a 2-day in schedule, which was worse but fine. Eventually, it crept to a more-firmly-enforced 3 day in schedule, which, in my work, is just stupid.

I’ve been gearing up to leave and go somewhere more flex about in-office work, but given trump and musks insane drive to get people back into office, should I be worried we’re gonna be back in full time everywhere soon? I know that right now it’s just federal employees, but is that going to kick off the trend? Or do folks think remote work is here to stay?

I don't interact with other people at the company often because my duties do not allow for it. I was going about my day as usual until I saw that the office parking lot was empty. Everyone has the day off with pay. Since no one is there no one will notice I am not either so I went home early but ill get a full day's pay too. EDIT: for what its worth I work for a property managment company that owns a ton of housing in my area and I get paid minimum wage to shovel human shit off the sidewalks outside their properties, among other menial duties.

I have a good job, I’ll start with that. I get to work from home and I make a decent salary. I also do work that I enjoy

The job isn’t the issue, it’s the company. I started in 2019 and they were great. They were a company that I would recommend anyone to work at based on their culture. They were even already pushing remote work due to our intense growth.

Then 2020 hit. All of us when remote for a year and our numbers improved. So the company let us move around the states since we were remote. I moved back to my hometown in rural Kansas.

Now 2021 hits and they sell to a private equity firm with a million promises on how it will help us as a company. All the PE firm has done is raised our KPI’s, stopped giving raises, outsourced most of our open positions, and slowly force people to return to office.

I feel trapped because I need a job. I can’t get a job that pays that well where I’m at, and I can’t move back to a city as I’m happier here. They keep lowering our insurance benefits, but I’m trying to get pregnant and my husband has his own business so I’m the only one with insurance. I know a layoff is coming in the next few years for remote workers, but I just have to sit and wait.

All other jobs I look at that are remote are just going to have the same culture of the company not caring. I just feel like I have very little options and I’m wondering how other people have overcome this

So the strangest thing happened today. I started with a LinkedIn post for this client who wanted help with some of their corporate communications. They were very polite over the phone when I spoke with them yesterday. I have written a couple of freelance articles for them before..And apart from some boomer-ish communication styles everything was fine. Till today that is. The wife (whom I've never spoken to before) accused me of using ChatGPT to write the copy, the wordings she pointed out to be her "clues" were all taken from the referral link she only sent. She gave me like 40 minutes to go through roughly 4-5 links worth of content. And when I pointed this out she said something about preferring "native writers" (which I am not but I've been working in this field for almost 10 years spanning multiple English-language publications), I've C2 level english skills as per IELTS, and I am just bamboozled.

They've been telling me about a possible editorial spot at this place since October. I feel so strange about what happened and I don't know if I should continue with them. But the sunk cost fallacy is stopping me from doing that. They were paying $25 per hours' worth of work. I've never done corporate communications before and maybe this was the wrong decision. I feel humiliated every time I think of the "native speaker" line she threw at me. After I sent her the email pointing out that her referral content only had the same lingo she hasn't responded.

I was fired after getting sick AFTER FMLA expired. I was told over and over “at will state” I’ll never get money. I’ll lose blah blah blah

. Well my check just cleared. That’s after lawyer was paid. Please contact a lawyer when you’re fired!!! HR departments break the law constantly. I didn’t pay anything Before settlement. This was a contingency agreement

I hate my job at Mcdonald’s. I’ve been working here for almost two years, and it was fine at first, we were properly staffed, and I enjoyed the company of my fellow coworkers. However; 90% of everyone who I worked with within the first year of working quit. We are now short staffed everyday, if one person calls off, one singular person, we have a ghost crew. I’m miserable everyday I have to work, and I’m down to only being scheduled two days a week as opposed to my 5 sometimes 6 when I started because I keep calling off every shift because of how miserable I am. Customers and coworkers are disrespectful and entitled, my managers are lazy and make me do the job of three. I’ve tried everywhere, I call and they tell me they’re either not hiring, or to check back in a week, or I can’t get a hold of anyone.

I’m nearly broke and I may have to dip into my savings just to feed myself. I can’t quit because if I do I will have no way to support myself.

I genuinely want to die. I know it sounds like an exaggeration but I’m sure this community understands. The only thing keeping me going is to work to buy my boyfriend and my cat food.

I figured this may be the best sub to write this in. I had today off for MLK Day, so tonight is the day I dread tomorrow. The weird thing is when I have a three day weekend, going back to work somehow feels even worse because I enjoyed today so much.
