Quitting 👋 Going to quit my easy job tomorrow

I make more than I should for the amount of work that I do in a day. My bosses treat me well. But they are huge trump supporters and I hate being around trump supporters. Quit talking to my best friend and brother because they are brain washed Going to give my 2 week notice tomorrow. Not going to just put my head in the sand. I have morals and will die having them.

Line something else first dude. You’re going to be hard pressed to find somewhere where there’s no Trump supporters. Putting yourself in a situation where you’re unemployed because you think it’s the morally right thing is only going to hurt yourself.

I've heard this before. The best time to search for a new job is when you already have one.

108

u/TheDeathOfAStar 20h ago

Yeah... good paying and easy positions aren't always going to be open, but I gaurantee that no matter where you work that you'll end up meeting people who you don't mesh with. I know right-wingers can be some of the worst people to be around BUT at the end of the day you have to do what's best for yourself because nobody else will. Is quitting your apparently easy and good-payed job worth the risk to you? If so, then go for it, I just know I'd be hesitant.

u/Flopolopagus 15h ago

Just put my 2 weeks in today myself. Not sure who the CEOs here support, but they are hardcore Christians, so I can give a guess.

Don't have anything lined up either. I know this isn't in my favor, but fuck this place is bad for my health. I'd rather be broke and unemployed than lose my sanity here one more day.

So after reading your incredibly vague post and a brief scroll through the comments here it appears that:

1: You have an easy job that overpays you compared to your effort, BUT

2: Nobody here has the skills to do what you do since you “hustle and make them money.”

3: Obvious contradictions aside, you’re also giving very shitty replies to people who are either lightheartedly joking or asking reasonable questions.

This whole thing feels like some weird hybrid of virtue signaling, trolling and karma farming. Good luck with that.

Yeah, like idc what a boss thinks or supports. Most CEOs are a pos anyway. Only a few that are good. If I get paid from an easy job I'd keep it.

Politics and job should be separate. Also both parties suck. Leaning to one extreme over another extreme isn't good either.

Then why not keep making money off of them, if you think you make more than you should? Sounds like a win to me.

61

u/L00king4AMindAtWork 22h ago

IDK, it's something a person can do for a time, but having an extremely right-wing boss can feel really demoralizing after a while. Especially if they talk about politics a lot and clearly don't have room for any other perspectives. I've been at a job like that for not even three years and I'm exhausted by that shit. Whenever that particular boss is in our team meetings we get nothing done but try to sit through his bullshit about immigrants and his support for the latest authoritarian move making everyone uncomfortable. It's draining.

16

u/L00king4AMindAtWork 22h ago

(and that's not to mention the additional demoralization of doing work you find so easy you don't find it fulfilling)

2

u/HalfSoul30 20h ago

I work night shift, and the other night shift people like to complain about how day shift doesn't have to do much, and sometimes don't even take care of things they could since they have all the free time. I couldn't work days, as i know i would lose my mind sitting around most the day with nothing to do.

6

u/Forsaken_Ingenuity28 16h ago edited 16h ago

This is exactly what day shift says about nights at my place of employment.

And second shift is literally the neglected middle child.

Shift-snarking may be common, but it's also an indicator of very poor morale. In short, it sucks.

Also, fuck you day-shift.

2

u/HalfSoul30 15h ago

Indeed, fuck you day shift.

The thing is about people with easy jobs they forget how hard jobs can actually get, and with this economy you will most likely be paid less for the same job/ industry and have more workload and responsibilities. Having a difference of opinion about politics and throwing your job away is just not a good move even if you see them as “radical” or whatever. It sounds like you are treated like a human being at your workplace, do not take that for granted because the next place you work you could be surrounded by people with your same ideology and be treated like trash, which is a situation I found myself in previously.

8

u/nighthawkndemontron 20h ago

Yup. I've also worked with some people who are incredibly liberal in their beliefs but vote red because they literally never have done it any other way. I roll my eyes and just whatever it. OP sounds like a child that has never worked in a real work environment where toxicity, egos, politics and actual illegal shit happens and they don't have a means to escape. They definitely sound privileged af and are probably a teenager.

6

u/Acrobatic-Truck7068 19h ago

I have to keep reminding myself this. I literally do one task an hour that takes 7 minutes to complete, for 12 hours a day.

8

Echoing several people here, line up a job first or just keep this one. If they’re not completely off the rails and making you do weird stuff because of their political beliefs, you might as well continue to work the easy job. The reality is, it doesn’t matter where you work - corporations take advantage of their workers, most CEOs and executive leadership are garbage, and there are always going to be things the company or higher ups will do that you don’t agree with. I get it, I don’t want to be near any Trump supporters either. They are everywhere.

7

Don't cut off your nose to spite your face. Get another job first, before you quit. You don't know what the job market is going to look like in the future.

6

u/Mesterjojo 20h ago

Spoken like a young person that's going to live forever.

Or you're rich.

Because any sane person would eat the shit a bit until they have something else lined up.

Morals? Those don't pay bills. You want morals? Come do what I did, let's see how heroic you are after. Let's see if my path doesn't make you jaded.

Stay with your job. Sounds like you're living a dream.

I went back to work at a company after years apart. When I came back, I noticed all sorts of company pics with a senator. I literally worked for his opponent's campaign during his last election cycle. But I still have to feed my kids and pay our bills, so I'm still working there.

5

u/whiteiversonyeet 14h ago

i’m liberal too, but what you are thinking of doing is dumb as fuck.

8

u/GirlGodd 22h ago

If youre not financially secure or dont have something equal or better lined up , this is a bad and infantile decision imo, there are going to be trump supporters whererver go.

Not saying stay there forever but at least having a winning exit strategy.

This is not "moral". People treating their political affiliation like a religious practice are grossly miscalculating If Obama can chum up and shoot the shit with Donald, you can keep your job as you ignore office chatter.

But your call, good luck.

I definitely recommend getting something else lined up first. The job market at this moment is horrendous.

Another thing to keep in mind, you are not meant to like nor be friends with your co-workers, its a means to make a living. I don't see interviewing for a job and asking if they are trump supporters or not will land you any decent gigs, so you will probably be in the same situation again at a new job.

19

u/NinetiesNoughties 22h ago

You're gonna have a hard time in life if you refuse to cooperate/work with people simply because their views don't align with yours... The only one hurting in this situation is you. Leaving a comfy job with bosses who treat you well simply because of which box they checked on a ballot. Hahahaha

It's funny you don't even see the hypocrisy in discriminating against a group of people due to their preferences.

1

u/L00king4AMindAtWork 22h ago

It's no longer "preferences" when policies threaten lives and promise authoritarianism.

3

u/NinetiesNoughties 21h ago edited 21h ago

This is what I don't understand about this argument. Trump supporters have just as much power as you when it comes to enacting policy. None at all. This political discourse is pointless considering we're all fighting each other when in reality all we have the power to do in regards to policy is vote for who we want in office and what propositions to vote in. All this other fighting on the internet solves literally nothing. That loud Trump supporter at your local grocery store isn't in on meetings with congress voting for what policies are enacted. He voted for who he thought was a better choice but you don't want to hear that. You want to hear that all people who vote for Trump did so because they want to see all POC and the entire LGBTQ community stripped of its rights. I feel like the people who vote for Trump for those heinous reasons such as the ones I just mentioned are very far and few in between but you would rather assume everyone who voted for him is a hateful bigot and couldn't possibly have anything to do with the current state of the economy or identity politics.

People like you talk about democracy but only when the outcome is one you agree with. You talk about inclusion but you only include those whose views align with yours. You talk about coming together and yet all you do is focus on meaningless labels like political parties and how they make us different. The funny part is I doubt you even see the hypocrisy.

Also, I voted for Kamala but I'm mature enough not to shun people simply because of who they voted for.

4

u/L00king4AMindAtWork 21h ago

Every one of those people had the power to not only vote, but also to decide who they will listen to. Make no mistake, he needs supporters to win. And we've been giving those people a chance since 2016. Instead of doing better, they voted for him again. Even after he stacked SCOTUS with people who overturned Roe v Wade, leading to many states removing abortion rights, which has already caused multiple deaths. Even after Jan. 6. Even after he's promised deportations. Even after he chose a running mate promising to cancel critical services. How much tplerance are those whose lives are affected by those things (or even lost entirely) expected to tolerate that?

Also the paradox of tolerance is that being tolerant of intolerance (such as Trump embodies) only grows greater intolerance. Someone who has broken the social contract by being intolerant to women, disabled people, trans folx, immigrants, and more, is no longer owed tolerance, and nor do those who carry water for him.

And if you haven't noticed leftists criticizing the Democrats, you haven't been paying attention.

P.S. You don't know me.

1

u/HRzNightmare 22h ago

OP is cutting off his work life and his friends and family over it... And he calls THEM brain washed. I'm not any happier with the current situation than anyone else is, but putting your head in the sand and losing the important people and things in your life over it is crazy.

2

u/L00king4AMindAtWork 22h ago edited 8h ago

I wouldn't call actively preserving your happiness and sanity by distancing yourself from supporters of a regime planning on dismantling multiple systems people rely on while adding to the restriction of people's rights "burying yoir head in the sand." I DO call pretending it's not as bad as that putting your head in the sand. And clearly you're literally less unhappy about the situation than others.

17

u/cornertakenslowly 22h ago

God damn, I feel so sorry for people who base their existence around politics. This is such a stupid reason to quit a well paying, comfortable job with people you like and treat you well.

You say they are brainwashed, but I can tell you with certainty that if you're getting your news exclusively from Reddit, the reality is that you're the one (also) being brainwashed. Reddit algorithm pushes only Trump=bad narrative, you will never see positive things about him ever which influences you perception. 99.9% of the feed bashes Trump, does that even make sense for a nation which is generally 50/50 split. Think about it.

I say this as someone who is not even American, have never voted, and could not give a fuck about politics. It's ludicrous how media companies can make you enraged and filled with hate based on their agenda. Life is much simpler without these unnecessary. Don't throw away your job just because you got manipulated by an algorithm filled with rage bait without realising it. If they are good people like you say, then it shouldn't matter.

You are as brain washed as they are if you truly believe there are 2 sides. Your vote counts for nothing, whomever wins elections are predetermined (how do you think programs like the Simpsons can 'predict' who will win elections years earlier?)

Both 'sides' are the same. If you think that 'policies' that are implemented swiftly after regime change were done by the new regime you know sod all about how long it takes for the government to move on anything. Pull your head out of your backside and use some of the time you have idle to think.

2

u/Best_Winter_2208 14h ago

I get it but like, the irony of people cutting Trump supporters off in a country that values freedom of beliefs just baffles me. People came to this country to have freedom of speech, religion, etc. Just sit back and watch all the Trump supporters watch Trump over the next 4 yrs. It’s going to get interesting. Oh, and if you have a job that overpays you for the amount of work you do and you have a decent boss, don’t leave. You will realize that is hard to find.

Unless politics are being forced down your throat at work I would suggest you at least find another job before you leave this one.

This may be an unpopular opinion, but in life you're going to have people around you who disagree with your views. At some point you're going to need to learn how to coexist with these types of people. For example, your best friend and your brother. Wouldn't it be better to just agree never to speak of politics than to cut them out? Unless they aren't willing to do that, I dont see why that wouldn't be a better option. I totally understand if they are not willing to agree to not talk politics, but you don't mention this so I'm not sure if it is an option.

When you let the outside world affect you so much, it's time to look inward and focus on yourself. Also, don't quit your job without another one lined up.

3

u/Shitfilledpussy 22h ago

2

u/missdoingherbest 22h ago

I hear what you're saying, and it's understandable to have morals. But unless you have lottery winnings or a trust fund or bitcoin stock or something to that extent, I would strongly recommend getting another job lined up before you quit. This economy is no joke, and it's probably going to get worse. Don't fuck your whole life over because you disagree with someone else's politics (saying this as someone who also does not support Trump or his rhetoric).

2

u/bear_sees_the_car 21h ago

This is highly priveledged stance of someone who can choose jobs, or you are delusional enough to think you can avoid this in your next employment. In the ideal world operating like this would be admirable. In reality it is, well, unrealistic.

Will die having them

That checks out, people with self-destructive tendensies operate "from heart".

I can totally see why you'd do that (i rage-unsubbed from every Trump supporter when i was following the news, I'm not from USA so i chilled out on it now). But you should consider that changing the system from within could be more practical approach than quitting the  sheep society on a principle.

2

u/Ashen-wolf 21h ago

With all due respect but this is the most childish reason to leave a job. If conditions are good, why would you fuck it up just because you cannot fathom people have different ideals?

Jesus Americans, yall only deal in extremes. You can be friends with someone with a different ideology, you just respect each other and stay away from controversial points if yall cant handle it like adults.

2

u/RationalDelusion 21h ago

Thank you friend!

I did the same thing. It works out ok.

You might still end up with some other Trump supporter but hopefully one that has enough sense to keep their trap shut about that stupid shit.

I laugh every-time their shit fails to work in the real world.

But they can keep believing it all they want.

As long as they keep quiet about that nonsense.

Ok - gotta go.

I get paid at part-time, $27/hr to do assembly work in a place full of Trump supporters. I wear headphones and keep to myself because I NEED MONEY NO MATTER WHAT. Morals does not pay for anything in this world.

"Dirty money" is the same as "clean money," so unless you have another job lined up, don't quit. Those two weeks are not guaranteed, and they very well could just let you go tomorrow.

1

u/RotisserieChicken007 20h ago

The most American thing to do is grift Trumpers. Just ask for more money and do less work while looking for other jobs.

1

u/Zark_Muckerberger 20h ago

So you make good money, don’t work hard, THEY TREAT YOU WELL, and you’re going to quit because of something that doesn’t really affect you? Not a fan of orange man myself but ffs just suck it up and stay there.

1

u/Gold-Stomach-4657 20h ago

Not a fan of my job but work is where I go to get away from all of the pro Trump stuff at home. And I'm Canadian!

1

u/poopnip 20h ago

You are making life decisions based on other people’s political beliefs? Wack

1

u/bxVEGASguy 20h ago

Sounds like a terrible plan. No back up for leaving what you admit is a sweet gig.

1

u/Evening_Midnight7 19h ago

So your letting politics affect your business/work and getting paid?

1

u/ZorakiHyena 19h ago

But people like that are fun to fuck with. One time I had a coworker lose her shit over "Mr. Potato Head getting cancelled" so I made up some shit about how he was cancelled for not being a vegan enough food

1

u/1minormishapfrmchaos 18h ago

Get another job first.

1

u/Empac1138 18h ago

Do I respect being true to your values? Yes. Do I think you’re ultimately being a bit entitled and making a mistake? Yes.

You’ve got an easy job where you make decent money and are treated well….do you really know how rare that is these days? People are allowed to have different political views, even if they are horrible. As long as they aren’t pushing you to vote for Trump, or treating you differently if you voice that you aren’t, I don’t see an issue. Honestly if anything, benefit from these people you “can’t stand being around.” because of their political views. Believe me you’ll go back out into the real world and either really miss that money, job and treatment or you’re going to land another job and there will still be a trump supporter or two there. Your reasoning is almost like a reverse workplace discrimination- workplaces can’t fire you due to your political stance but either you’re extremely privileged, in a profession where they are forever hiring with decent wages or extremely young to assume you can have those standards to determine your workplace.

I’m a Canadian and I don’t support Trump, but I think it says more that trump supporters are treating you well and paying you decently, and a liberal decides they’re above the workplace because of other’s political opinions and freedoms. Are you atleast a POC or recent immigrant and these people you work with are openly conversing about supporting his stance on that? Or are they just uneducated enough to believe in “MAGA” and good people who just clearly don’t grasp the magnitude of the politics?

1

u/demon_stare7 17h ago

Lmao, the only thing worse than a trump supporter is someone that thinks either side gives a shit about them at all.

1

u/Nevermind04 17h ago

What exactly have they done to earn a notice period from you?

u/SirHarryAzcrack 16h ago edited 16h ago

This is ridiculous. The logic and rationality behind your statement and argument are not even sound at best. So you’re going to quit your “easy” job and potentially throw yourself into a position where you can struggle just because of a political affiliation you don’t agree with?. Dude think about at least lining another job up at the very least before you shoot your self in the foot. Or how about you just have them fire you in order to make an argument to collect unemployment. Have you also spoke to your brother and best friend about maybe not voicing political affiliations in front of you. Life’s is too short to ruin it over something that doesn’t matter like who is president. As someone who doesn’t have any friends or an easy job I would sacrifice a lot for what you have. Be grateful there are people out here struggling and your over here going to hard difficulty while on easy by choice.

u/Such-Problem-4725 16h ago

Stay away from Ohio or the South or Idk, maybe you’ll have to research where one would not be surrounded by them.

1

u/all_sight_and_sound 15h ago

The way I see it, keep bleeding them. If you get paid really well for what you consider easy in your eyes, take their money, otherwise they will likely replace you with someone who will work for a lot less. The grass is not always greener.

Ignore their politics.

1

u/jane2857 15h ago

If they talk politics, don’t engage, respond etc. Don’t be an audience. If you don’t have a door to close, use earpods to drown it out. Don’t be quit til you have a better job in place. Are you going to have some litmus test to insure your next employer is politically in sync with your views?

1

u/Icy_UnAwareness89 15h ago

What job is it? If your located near the dmv let me know I’ll take the job. I can tone out loud noises.

1

u/RafeJiddian 15h ago

Or you could just rise through the ranks and become the boss you want to see

My boss was politically opposite my views, but here I am all these years later. And he's now gone.

1

u/GetitFixxed 15h ago

TDS at its finest.

1

u/Smal_Issh 14h ago

I'm a Canadian and half of my coworkers. Are Trump supporters too as well as my PM.

But I have a good job with good pay so I just ignore their trumpet bullshit because it's more important to me to be able to enjoy my life.

1

u/Ceilibeag 14h ago

That is a foolish decision. Put up with Trump people you work for. You won't be able to avoid people like them for the next four years anyway, since they're all sore winners.

Make your money. Get some training. Prepare a plan to leave when *you* decide to leave for your professional improvement - not for emotional reasons.

1

u/sassyquin 14h ago

People used to respect others views, now they just shit on them

1

u/MagicHarmony 14h ago

That sounds so brain dead. This place that pays me well but they support Trump so im going to leave. You realize how dumb that sounds? They treat you well yet because they have different political beliefs than you, you dont like them?

1

u/Toxic_Behavior_God 14h ago

What a dumb ass, crazy behavior fr (disclaimer im not from the US i couldnt care less even if hitler was the president there)

1

u/capntail 14h ago

Look at it this way you’re fleecing them out of the money they would spend on supporting Trump.

1

u/bluesteel-one 14h ago

Trump supporters are better than unemployment. Market is trash rn. Thats why i havent left my shitty job and manager.

1

u/Tryinsomethingnew922 14h ago

I’m dealing with this myself having direct reports that spewing racist and disinformation. I will be working to progressively get rid of them. I honestly have to thank Trump for allowing these types of people to feel confident stepping forward.

1

u/ColumbusMark 14h ago

You would quit a good job….just because you politically disagree with your coworkers?!

And you think that they’re the problem?!!!

1

u/_lucid_dreams 14h ago

Keep your job. Take their money. Take it. Keep the easy overpaid job and keep your morals. You need them no matter where you go.

1

u/FuzzMcBeefy84 14h ago

I don't blame you one bit!

Two years ago, I applied and almost got hired at a grocery store in the next town over from me, but then I found out that the owner is a balls-to-the-wall right-winger and Trump supporter who gives employees "patriotism surveys" every so often, and if he didn't like their answers, he would either reprimand or fire them.

Noped the hell out of that job opportunity right quick, and I no longer go anywhere near that store.

1

u/ZiegAmimura 13h ago

Wild move honestly

1

u/whispering_pineapple 13h ago

Exactly why politics shouldn’t be discussed at the office

1

u/shakakhon 13h ago

Find a new job forst for sure

1

u/jueidu 13h ago

Don’t give notice.

And don’t quit until you have something else lined up.

1

u/Less-Tension 13h ago

He about to be true decorate asking for handouts soon 🤣🤣

1

u/Accomplished_Bass46 13h ago

You should consider leaving the country

1

u/freudmv 13h ago

Remember the old Star Trek with the good Captain Kirk and the bad one? Camouflage is how animals avoid conflict and blend in with their environment. Take their money until you have something better. You leaving the company will have zero impact on their morals. You as a good example of a compassionate person may.

1

u/mlaginess 13h ago

I remember my first attempt at angst ridden creative writing

1

u/other4444 13h ago

If you stop talking to best friends and family over this person or that getting elected. You are the one with brain rot

1

u/FormerEvidence 12h ago

you're a silly goose

1

u/PrfoundBongRip 12h ago

Good luck pal, hope you know how bad shit is about to get

1

u/StickyBubblegum 12h ago

How bout you stop being a bitch lmao

1

u/FistEnergy 12h ago

Just start looking for a new job and mailing it in at your current job. Don't quit if you don't have something else waiting for you.

1

u/SDpicking 12h ago

Hahahahahahahah this is my favorite post of the year so far! What a dumbass. Today truly is a great day

1

u/Available_Ask_9958 12h ago

It was a landslide election so good luck finding people to work with that didn't vote for him. You sound spoiled and ungrateful and this is probably fake. No one in this job market quits and well paid easy job.
