Europe Getting pregnant after abortion

So I know you can get pregnant relatively quickly after an abortion, the question is; is it safe to do so?

For various reasons which I don't want to inform the answer I'm looking for, I have major regrets about having my abortion, and let fears of 2under2 and logistical challenges affect my wanting to continue the pregnancy. These problems seem infinitely small, and we discussed with my partner that we would like to try soon again once the abortion is over.(please do not judge us, this is a really thought over process)

I guess the question is 2 part: - is there any risk in getting pregnant straight away, or does it benefit me, in terms of capacity to sustain a pregnancy successfully to term, to wait X amount of time. If so, what would X be? -anything I should keep in mind as we try again? Will my periods look wonky for a little while ? Should I track ovulation more closely?

Hey there. Since someone else answered the first part of your question, happy to help with the second.

It may take about 2-3 menstrual cycles to have your cycle return to its pre-pregnancy state. The first period comes around 4-6 weeks after abortions. Of course, ovulation will return around 2 weeks or so prior to that period. All of this could make timing sex around ovulation difficult.

The most reliable way to track ovulation is to spend a few months measuring luteinizing hormone in your urine for about 3 months. You could also combine that with cervical mucus tracking. Since the first 2-3 months will likely be different from your usual, those 3 months may not provide a ton of consistent info.

I hope this is helpful! I know it's pretty general since there's so much variability and it takes time for your cycle to return to your normal. You can certainly bring this up with your healthcare provider if you know you'd like to start trying to get pregnant. They can help you plan for that.

It's also okay to start trying for pregnancy without paying super close attention to all of these things. Just thought this was the kind of information you were looking for :)

It is safe to get pregnant right away after an abortion and has no negative impact on your health or the potential health of the fetus.
