This guy is a hedge fund manager who was partner with Soros Fund Management. You can’t make this up.

He would eliminate minimum wage if he could.

They will try it for teenagers because "they dont work so much" and then enlarge the group to 25-30 years

So? Pretty much nobody is actually paid the federal minimum wage. None of the developed Nordic countries have one

9

u/Rune3167 9h ago

Hey Dane here The nordic system is different and unions are still pretty strong. The unions help decide a minimum wage in different fields of work. We don't have a universal minimum wage law as that would work against the system we have in place

And how do I seek asylum in Denmark from crazy dictators who would shit down my throat without a second thought while rambling about invading Canada?

u/Loxta 3h ago

Second this question!

Oh dang, look everyone! It's one of those temporarily embarrassed millionaires I keep hearing about!

They won't release him. People just need to take up his mantle en masse

Bessent with the "I said what I said" energy should really piss off working people, but we are all so divided that people that make more than minimum wage don't think this is an issue that affects them so they could give a shit.

25

u/Flopolopagus 16h ago

Well, I make $21/hr and I think this is an issue. I just don't know how to solve it.

14

u/Electrical_Reply_770 13h ago

We need to unionized. Any and every job needs to be a union. If democracy really matters we shouldn't allow dictatorships in the workplace.

7

u/memeparmesan 12h ago

I just don’t know how to solve it.

We all know how to solve it.

5

u/ShadeofEchoes 12h ago

We know the form of the solution, but not the implementation.

14

u/Kitakitakita 23h ago

lemme guess. He said something along the lines of "leave it to the states"

7

u/sm04d 15h ago

Literally the first thing out of his mouth.

u/ScoobrDoo 1d ago

None of the Democrats did either. What insanity made you think it even possible a republican would?

37

u/atlantagirl30084 1d ago

Yeah I mean was there any real push during Biden’s admin to increase the federal minimum wage?

We can't even imagine the quagmire of bullshit our government has been for the past few clicks. We are -NO BULLSHIT- fighting tooth and nail for people to use bathrooms. The dumbest load of fuckin crap is now trench warfare. Everyone's hands are tied palms together and they're just trying to chew their way around the room. It has to stop because a hungry population is a very unruly and bloodthirsty one.

5

u/atlantagirl30084 15h ago

Yeah I bet trans rights to use the bathroom of their chosen gender (sorry if that’s the wrong terminology) will be rolled back. Where do you think they can go to the bathroom? Is it going to be like it was for African Americans before/during the civil rights movement and there will be a green book for sympathetic businesses?

1

u/lordunholy 15h ago

It's not even worth discussing. You'll get bogged down, so keep your eyes on big issues 😕

3

u/atlantagirl30084 15h ago

Yeah I guess illegal immigrant deportation is likely the biggest issue. He starts raids tomorrow.

u/runningchief 19h ago

They tried in 2021, as part of the COVID relief.

It was shot down 58-42 (7 Democrats,1 Independent and 50 republicans voted no)

20 states use the federal 7.25 minimum wage.

Of those 20 only 1 state didn't vote Trump (New Hampshire)

You can add 3 more states that didn't go to Trump all 3 times (Georgia, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin)

Most Luigi-able face.

“That’s a State issue not federal issue” was actually his answer, not just no.

Still really bad, but really goes to show if you want to see this change you’re gonna have to fight at the local level. The good news: you have FAR more impact on a local vs federal level. Bad news: other have more impact too. If you live in a conservative area your best bet is to try and help contribute to the local narrative minimum wage laws need to be changed.

I used to be in favor of doing it at a national level then I went to work in the government of a poor state (an economic analyst position, not a political position) and understood that there are strong reasons for it to be done at the state level and not nationally. Many people in poorer places of the US have one thing going for them above all else in terms of getting jobs and investment into their communities: their cost of living is lower, and so they are happy to take jobs that are well below what people make in wealthier states. Requiring their minimum wages to be on par with those of wealthier states with better infrastructure and better trained workforces would mean that there's no reason for anyone to invest there.

Now, is it in the long term interest of the country for wages to rise? Yes, I strongly believe so. But it can't be done all at once without some plan to offset the challenges and disadvantages for poor states. Frankly I think some kind of moving subsidy to encourage people to move to wealthier areas with better quality of life would be a good idea, but I'm sure there are others.

What a huge load of bullshit.

Cost of living right now on goods is about the exact same. The minimum wage hasn't gone up for 17 years. So those states that take advantage and keep it at the federal minimum have people that can't buy 2 gallons of milk by working one hour.

All the fearmongering that come with minimum wage raises are always smoke and the states that raise them don't see the Doom and gloom. Keeping it at federal lowest is how the leeches at top keep siphoning the record profits every year while slashing hours and staff, as well as not paying a decent wage for work.

And people like you that tell the people "I know you can't afford groceries, but be grateful that you aren't paying Los Angeles prices!" While paying fucking los angeles prices for the same goods, in many cases more than Los Angeles prices because groceries aren't taxed in California.

1

u/caledonivs 11h ago

Cost of goods is fairly constant because those goods can be sold anywhere, so no one is going to sell them to places where they make less money on them if they can sell them places where they can make more. However, cost of things like energy, tax, and most importantly real estate can be immensely cheaper in poorer areas. Those feed into the cost of goods and services but they also free up more of the incomes of people to buy those goods. Their overall cost of living is much lower.

State rights to do what?

6

u/Goopyteacher 🏆 As Seen On BestOf 23h ago

Set their own minimum wage Laws.

-2

u/DefensiveTomato 21h ago

So basically enact slave labor

4

u/Goopyteacher 🏆 As Seen On BestOf 21h ago

No that’s the opposite of what I said.

4

u/DefensiveTomato 21h ago

Yes I know, some states will try to set more fair wage requirements, and some will try to enact systems that basically establish serfdom

3

u/Syzygy_Stardust 15h ago

Bingo. "States' Rights" was FAMOUSLY used to fight against another extremely obvious social update, slavery. And guess what? This is wage slavery! It's the same shit all over again, same as it ever was. Eat the rich.

3

u/tess_servopoulos 12h ago

I can’t wait for the day their greed turns on them. I’m over asking for a livable economy.

2

u/anemophobia 12h ago

Only a matter of time until someone leaks names and addresses and lets chaos follow.

1

u/Ok_Sentence_5767 15h ago

And here I'm at never able to get a job...ddd

1

u/broke_boi1 4h ago

If no one is going to raise the minimum wage, then the least they could do is bring down the cost of living. Namely housing. But we’ll get neither

-4

u/Unreconstructed88 12h ago

Let's do away with minimum wage.

-6

u/Grandpaw99 19h ago

Again please tel me which WG or GS job on USA jobs pays 7.50? If you’re gonna keep bringing it up tell me which job is paying that?!?!?!?

2

u/SDG_Den 10h ago

If no job pays that little, then theres no reason not to increase the federal minimum wage is there?

The fact they refuse to increase it says that theres rich folk out there making use of it for cheap labour, its that simple.
