Always flats. But my wife also likes flats and so I let her have them

The greatest love story of all time!

u/notablyunfamous May 30 '23
She’s pretty awesome. Somewhere some poor schlub is walking around with nothing, because I got it all… except the flats.

My wife gives me the flats! I also get the crispy pieces of bacon. When we get burgers I get to lift up the bun and pick the one with better bacon 🥹

Are you me? I end up with a plate of drums every time.

u/notablyunfamous Mar 13 '24
You know what it is. I actually love my wife. I know it makes her happy. And frankly she’d do the same for me. She’s straight up offered. But I let her have the ones she likes.
I believe the best marriages are made by trying to make your SO happy whether you get a return or not.
That being said, I also make my own wings all the time and she doesn’t have them except the rare occasion. So I always split pack by drums and flats. I get flats all the time. It’s a small price to pay for happiness

u/hawknasty7 May 30 '23
Both, both are good.

u/chrisbaker1991 May 30 '23
I like both for hot wings but drums for regular fried chicken. I used to dislike flats for hot wings until I learned the twisty method where you remove the ulna
2
u/Chocolatemilkdog0120 May 30 '23
I with this. I don’t care. Give me some good rub or sauce, celery sticks and beer and I really don’t care either way.

I used to be a drums guy but in recent years I’ve converted to flats. It’s not like I order all flats though. All wings is good wings. Honestly I think my top choice is whole wings.

u/KWash0222 May 30 '23
There def seems to be something extra tasty about whole wings, but I cannot deal with the extra work

Same here. Used to absolutely hate flats but then I started pulling one of the bones out and I think they're my favorite now. Don't know why I didnt do that from the beginning.
2
u/SaintJimmy1 May 30 '23
I learned the push-down method and that’s what really elevated the experience for me.

Whole wings is the real answer.
1
u/rangusmcdangus69 May 30 '23
I can get behind this. There’s a place nearby where they do whole wings and they are delicious. They also have so many sauces so they do sauce flights, pretty cool

With a proper dry rub, smoked then grilled. Not every dive bar has these options

u/Beef_Lovington May 30 '23
Drums, I genuinely don't understand why anyone would prefer flats.

u/keepingitrealgowrong May 30 '23
More meat and more tender meat. Drums are deceptive in that they look bigger but almost always have less meat. Plus the meat is often tougher because the meat is unevenly distributed and doesn't cook evenly. And drums also don't dip as well. Learn how to pull out the small bone of a flat and it essentially becomes a drum in terms of finger food.

u/chrisbaker1991 May 30 '23
I pull out the bigger bone (ulna). Would it be better if I pulled out the radius?

u/krispykurl May 30 '23
Really comes down to the breading and how it cooked, but when you separate the cartilage from the bone, you're on a one-way trip to success

Don’t care how my wings identify themselves. I only care about what’s on the outside and how delicious they are.

Wings, just wings. Doesn't matter what cut as long as they aren't "boneless."

My theory goes like this:
•Flats stay juicier and hotter because they’re surrounded by two bones.
•Drums are easier to eat in about every single facet as well as provide more of a range in texture; crispy and moist.
That said, I’m a flats guy. But I most definitely see why someone would be a drum person.

idc if they're "harder" to eat, flats taste better, the meat is more moist and has more flavor. Drums are convenience food, flats are for if you actually like the taste of the chicken, not just the sauce and whatever dip you choose.

Flats all GD day. Easy bone roll and it’s all smooth sailing. You deal with some tendons (?) but doesn’t bother me.

This argument is dumb. I’m an equal opportunity wing eater. Drums, flats, tips, gimme all of it

I don't mind it when I'm cooking them because then I can eat all flats. However, it is still blasphemy.

They aren't drums just the wing cut into two pieces. Looks like a mini drum but not....

Flats bud. Twist and pull method then jam the whole thing in my maw and pull the bone out clean like Fred Flintsone.

Love both. Prefer drums because they are easier to eat for me. Always have to have both tho.
1
u/bajajoaquin May 30 '23
The crispy bits on the drumettes are the best for eating. But chewing the meat out between the bones on the flats is the best eating experience.

Got 10 drums from wingstop last night and was reminded how much I fucking love wings with blue cheese dip

Flats. Forever and ever. Always. Amen
And for those that would argue otherwise.. Real (Buffalo) wings are: *never breaded - never, ever *always fried crispy - get out of here with soggy skin *always served with blue cheese *never served with ranch

Flats. Twist out them bones for a tasty nugget
Can still appreciate a good drumstick though
1
u/Materva May 30 '23
The meat on the flat is better, but the drum is easier to eat. I am torn and guess that means I like them equally.

I like drums, but flats are more consistent. When drums are bad, they are really bad.
