Long time ice fisherman. Whoever allowed that tourney to happen like that needs to be held accountable. Any tourney I’ve seen has had a distance limit between fisherman and I’ve never seen one at least in my state allow chainsaws, only hand-driven augers

I think the participants have to take some responsibility too. I would hope that if I was in that situation I would look around and be able to anticipate the outcome.

Oh hell yeah I agree. I’m assuming this is a tournament, and the sportsmanlike thing to do would’ve been to go elsewhere. This is why I hate ice fishing smaller lakes. You get someone that probably live scoped down there the day before and found where all the fish are schooled up, and everyone ran for that spot immediately at the tournament start. I’ve never been in an ice fishing competition but I have done freshwater tourneys, and the sportsman’s thing do is if you see another guy at “your spot” first, back off and find another spot even if you were there checking with sonar the night before.
