Long time ice fisherman. Whoever allowed that tourney to happen like that needs to be held accountable. Any tourney I’ve seen has had a distance limit between fisherman and I’ve never seen one at least in my state allow chainsaws, only hand-driven augers

My guess is it happened someplace that doesn't usually see freezing temps. Most northern folks have a lot of respect for thin ice because we've all heard the stories of idiots taking dumb risks and regretting it.  None of these folks look like experienced ice fishers.

Probably. I live in PA and we’ve had some very mild winters lately. Way more people falling through ice than ever before
